The Ventura College women's basketball team has announced that seven members of last season's state championship team will be transferring to four-year institutions in the fall. Since head coach Ned Mircetic began his tenure in before the 1990-91 season, 117 Pirates have now matriculated from the VC women's basketball team to four-year schools.
All-American point guard Lisa Marie Sanchez will be staying close to home, transferring to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The State co-MVP has received a scholarship to play with the Mustangs in the Big West Conference.
Meanwhile, All-American shooting guard Cynthia Hernandez will take her talents east to New Jersey. The leading 3-point shooter in the country last season has signed a scholarship to play for Hall of Fame coach C. Vivian Stringer at Rutgers University. The Scarlet Knights will be entering their first year of play in the Big 10 Conference this season.
Dual-sport standout Brooke Dixon will play basketball and throw the shot for NCAA Division I Alabama A & M University of Normal, Ala. The Bulldogs play in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
All-State Tournament selection Adrianne Sloboh has signed a basketball scholarship to head to the Big Easy. Sloboh will continue her athletic and academic careers at NAIA Division I Loyola University of New Orleans.
All-Western State Conference guard Adriana Vega has been accepted and recieved an academic scholarship to the University of California, San Diego where she will be a chemistry major. Makayla Morrison, who played in two State Final Fours for VC is headed to Cal State Northridge to study Health Administration. Transfer sophomore Heather Tomaszewski had a knee injury that prevented her from seeing action for the Pirates, but she was a key player in the state championship run ina different capacity for the Pirates and she will be headed to California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks in the fall.
These seven made championship contributions to their Ventura College story, and we look forward to hearing about more outstanding accomplishments from them in their future endeavors.
