Terry Morris is in his 14th year on Coach Steve Mooshagian's coaching staff in 2024, his second stint with Ventura College football, coaching the defensive backs and serving as the Assistant Head Coach. He is also the Pirates' Co-Defensive Coordinator. He previously directed the program as head coach from 1997-2005, compiling a 50-42 record, good for third on the Pirates’ all-time victory list. He was also the defensive coordinator in 1996 at VC. He has been a part of nine conference titles and 13 post-season/bowl appearances during his time on the sidelines at VC, including the Pirates' march to the Southern California Football Association title in 2018, culminating the VC's appearance in the CCCAA State Championship game. He also coached VC to the Southern California title game in 1999 and 2023.
Morris graduated from Dalhart High School in Texas and played at the University of Texas – El Paso from 1984-87. A cornerback for the Miners, Morris was twice named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. He coached the defensive secondary in El Paso for four years following his graduation from UTEP, helping lead the Miners to the 1988 Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La.
Coach Morris continued his career at Lambuth University in Jackson, Tenn. From 1992-96 he served as the defensive coordinator, secondary coach, and recruiting coordinator at the NAIA school. He helped lead the Eagles to the NAIA National Playoffs his final four seasons. Also, in 1993, Lambuth had the top-ranked secondary in the country, limiting opponents to a 31.2 percent pass completion rate.
Morris arrived at Ventura College in 1996 as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach. Upon taking the reins as head coach in 1998, he oversaw the largest turnaround in junior college history, as VC improved a 1-9 record in 1997 to a mark of 9-2 in 1998. Morris led the team to a Western State Conference championship in 1999, and coached two California State MVPs.
Among his later coaching accomplishments, he has tutored a "three-peat" of freshman All-American defensive backs the past three seasons with Jaylen Watson (2017 & 2018), Vosean Crumbie (2016) and Britto Tutt (2015).
Morris and his wife Angie have two children, daughter Jillian and son Ty.
