Ventura College alumnus Jake Colman '17 enters his sixth season as the Pirates' offensive line coach and his third as VC's Offensive Coordinator in 2024. Since joining the Pirates' coaching staff in 2019, he has helped 20 offensive linemen earn scholarships to four-year universities.
The Pirate offense under Colman has consistently placed within the Top-10 within the National Division of the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) in most statistical categories.
Ventura's 2023 offense was the No. 3-ranked offense in effeciency in the state of California. That season Colman coordinated one of the most effective rushing efforts in 3C2A history with a pair of running-backs surpassing the 1,000-yard mark in the same season. This effort was a first for Ventura College history and the first such season for two running-backs in California in over a decade.
Colman is a Ventura native and attended Buena High School. He earned three varsity letters with the Bulldogs and matriculated to Ventura College. Colman was an All-SCFA, All-State and All0-American for the Pirates on the offensive line, helping VC to a pair of Northern Conference championships. He accepted a full scholarship to San Jose State University where he played for two seasons with the Spartans of the Mountain West Conference.
In the spring, Colman is an assistant coach for the VC men's tennis team. He played a major role with the Pirates' 3C2A state championship run during the 2024 season.
Despite his success on the gridiron, Colman’s proudest achievements come as a husband and father. He and his wife Michelle have a son, Easton, and are expecting a daughter after the 2024 football season.
