Pirate Baseball Comes Home with Two Wins
April 18, 2024The VC baseball team traveled to San Luis Obispo Thursday and came home with a pair of victories over Cuesta. VC defeated the Cougars 7-6 in the continuation of a suspended game from March 4, needing just one inning and Aaron McLeod beating out a possible double-play ball to score Bryce Elias for the win. In the regularly scheduled game, Peter Dufau hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to provide the game-winning scores for the 8-7 triumph. -
Staiano Solid in Hard-Luck Loss Against Moorpark
April 16, 2024Pirate starting pitcher Luca Staiano had a great outing Tuesday, limiting Moorpark to three hits and two runs, one earned, through seven innings of work at Pirate Park. The VC offense could not pick up the tab, however, recording just three hits in Ventura's 5-1 setback against the Raiders. Yuki Kawashima had a pair of hits, including a double and scored the only run of the game for the Pirates (15-16, 7-11).

Middle Relief, 7-Run Inning Leads VC Past Pierce
April 12, 2024The Pirate baseball team used a strong performance by their middle relievers and posted a seven-spot in the sixth inning to roll past Los Angeles Pierce 15-11 Friday at Pirate Park. Ben Drumheller, one of five relivers to not allow a run, earned the victory on the mound with 1.2 perfect innings of work. Offensively, Peter Dufau, Mason Reid and Jacob Tostado all had a pair of hits with two runs batted in and Bryce Elias knocked in three runs in the victory for Ventura (15-15, 7-10).

9th-Inning Rally Falls Short for Pirates
April 11, 2024The Pirate baseball team mounted a tqo-out rally in the top of the ninth inning Thursday at Los Angeles Pierce, but fell one run short with the game-tying run in scoring position in their 7-6 loss to the Brahmas. Peter Dufau had three hits, including an RBI double in the final frame, to lead Ventura while Dylan Jackson had a pair of hits with a run scored and one run batted in. Anthony Cuevas gave VC a chance with 4.1 innings of scoreless relief on the mound.

Baseball Routs Brahmas, 12-1
April 09, 2024The VC baseball team had an easy time with Los Angeles Pierce Tuesday at Pirate Park, defeating the Brahmas 12-1. Luca Staiano gave up one unearned run through six complete innings on the mound to pick up the win while Harrison Cordeiro and Jathan Magana combined for three frames of shutout ball. Jacob Tostado had two hits, including a double, with three runs batted in and David King knocked in a pair of runs for the Pirates (14-14, 6-9).

Baseball Comeback Comes Up Short in Extras
April 06, 2024The VC baseball team climbed out of a 7-0 hole in the middle of the sixth to send their game against Hancock to extra innings, only to fall 9-7 to the Bulldogs at Pirate park Saturday. Jacob Tostado had a pair of hits and two runs batted in while Haiden Letzing scored twice on two hits and a walk for Ventura (13-14, 5-9). Anthony Cuevas, Domingo Gaxiola and Jaden Valdez combined for 4.2 innings of scoreless relief to give the Pirates a chance in the end.

Baseball Unable to Hold Early Lead Against Bulldogs
April 04, 2024The Pirate baseball team raced to a 4-0 advantage through four innings Thursday at Pirate Park before falling to Hancock 6-5 in Western State Conference action. Dylan Jackson had an RBI double and Yuki Kawashima recorded two hits, including a triple, and scored twice to lead Ventura (13-13, 5-8). Harrison Cordeiro pitched three innings of scoreless relief to give VC a chance down the stretch.

Pirates Break Out for 11-5 Win at Hancock
April 02, 2024The VC baseball team broke out with a 15-hit, 11-run effort Tuesday, defeating Allan Hancock 11-5 in Santa Maria. Dylan Jackson, David King and Bryce Elias all had three hits each for Ventura (13-12, 5-7) while Jacob Tostado and Haiden Letzing each had two. Luca Staiano pitched a strong six innings, giving up two runs on five hits to pick up his third victory of the season.

Ventura Makes in Three of Four Against Citrus
March 29, 2024The Pirate baseball team won its third game in its last four outings on Friday with a 7-4 victory over Citrus at Pirate Park. Bryce Elias hit a pair of triples with two runs scored and two runs batted in to lead the way and Yuki Kawashima recorded a pair of hits while scoring a run. A team of five relievers came out of the bullpen for VC, throwing five innings and giving up one run on two hits to hold the victory for the Pirates (12-12, 4-7).

Ninth-Inning Score Gives Pirates Win at Irvine
March 28, 2024The VC baseball team scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to squeeze past Irvine Valley 8-7 Thursday afternoon in Irvine. Jacob Tostado's lead-off single in the final frame led to him scoring the game-winning run on Dylan Jackson's squeeze bunt. Aaron McLeod hit a 3-run home run for the Pirates in the fifth. Bryce Zavala had a quality start throwing five innings and scattering six hits while giving up two runs and Harrison Cordeiro pitched the final three innings to record the victory for Ventura (11-12, 4-7).

VC Can't Make Comeback Against Compton
March 22, 2024The Pirates baseball team outscored visiting Comptoin 4-2 in the final three innings, but it was not enough to overcome an early deficit as Ventura fell to the Tartars 9-6 Friday afternoon. Haiden Letzing was 2-4 with a walk, two runs scored and one run batted in and Peter Dufau was 2-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Dylan Jackson recorded two RBI and two hits in the non-conference game for VC (10-12, 4-7). Luca Staiano had a solid start pitching seven innings and giving up three earned runs.

Pirates Close with Final 6 Runs, Walk Off SBCC
March 16, 2024The Pirate baseball team scored six runs over the final three innings to turn a 12-7 deficit at the seventh inning stretch into a 13-12 walk-off victory over Santa Barbara Saturday at Pirate Park. Peter Dufau had a two-out RBI single to plate the winning run in the bottom of the ninth scoring Yuki Kawashima, who was 2-5 in the game with a grand slam home run, two stolen bases, two runs scored and four runs batted in. Jaden Valdez pitched the final two frames to pick up the win on the mound for Ventura (10-11, 4-7).

March 14, 2024The Pirate baseball team went into the final inning Thursday tied with Santa Barbara 4-4. Dylan Jackson's ninth inning home run was not enough to overcome two Vaquero runs in the top of the ninth in VC's 6-5 setback at Pirate Park. Peter Dufau had a pair of hits, including a triple, and scored a run while Mason Reid also recorded two hits with a run scored and a run batted in. Bryce Zavala had a solid start, pitching into the sixth inning and giving up two runs while striking out three.

Ventura Falls in Santa Barbara
March 12, 2024The Pirate baseball team dropped a 10-4 decision at Santa Barbara Tuesday. Catcher Dylan Jackson was 3-4 on the day with a run scored and a run batted in. Bryce Elias had a double with an RBI and two runs scored and Ben Drumheller had a hit and two RBI. Luca Staiano made the start for VC (9-10, 3-6) and had seven strikeouts in five innings but gave up six runs, five earned.

VC Takes Series from Oxnard
March 09, 2024The Pirate baseball team won their three-game series with Oxnard Saturday with an 8-3 victory over the Condors on the road. Haiden Letzing knocked in three runs and Yuki Kawashima, Jacob Tostado and Henry Borjas all scored twice. Anthony Cuevas came out of the bullpen to retire 13 of 14 batters faced to record the win for Ventura (9-9, 3-5).

Baseball Feasts with Big Win Over Oxnard
March 07, 2024Its been feast or famine lately for the Pirate baseball team and Thursday's home game against Oxnard became an all-you-can-eat buffet. VC scored four runs in each of the first two innings en route to a 17-3 victory over the Condors at Pirate Park. Shortstop Jacob Tostado had four hits, including a double, and scored five runs while first baseman Haiden Letzing had a pair of hits with five runs batted in. Dominic Bayless pitched five complete innings, giving up two hits and one unearned run to pick up the win on the mound for Ventura (8-9, 2-5).

First baseman Haiden Letzing had three hits and scored a pair of runs and Aaron McCleod recorded two hits with a run scored. Aiden DeMello pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the Pirates.

Pirates and Cougars Suspend Play After 12 Innings
March 04, 2024The Ventura College baseball team was tied with visiting Cuesta Monday evening 6-6 after 13 innings of play. The Pirates and Cougars will pick things up again before their final meeting of the season on April 18 in San Luis Obispo. Yuki Kawashima leads the Pirates with three hits and four runs batted in, including the game-tying RBI in the bottom of the ninth inning.

February 27, 2024The VC baseball team was tied with visiting Cuesta late before the Cougars rallied to hand the Pirates a 7-4 setback at Pirate Park Tuesday. Henry Borjas had a pair of singles and a run scored while Mason Reid hit a two-RBI single for Ventura (7-7, 1-3). Bryce Zavala pitched three perfect innings out of the bullpen with four strikeouts.

February 24, 2024The Pirate baseball team led Moorpark 4-2 at the seventh inning stretch Saturday afternoon, only to give up four late runs to the Raiders to drop the game 6-4. David King led the Pirate offense with two hits, including a double, with one run scored and one run batted in. Henry Borjas also had two hits on the day with a run and Jacob Tostado scored twice. Luca Staiano had another solid start on the mound, pitching five innings and giving up two earned runs while striking out six.

February 23, 2024The Pirate baseball team bounced back from Thursday's loss to claim an 8-4 win at Moorpark Friday in the middle game of a three-game set with the Raiders. Peter Dufau was 3-5 at the plate, including a home run, with two runs scored and three runs batted in while Mason Reid also had three hits with a triple, two runs scored and three more RBI. Dylan Jackson hit a solo home run for VC (7-5, 1-1). Domingo Gaxiola had 3.1 solid innings f relief to pick up the win on the mound.

Shortstop Jacob Tostado had a pair of doubles with two runs batted in and Yuki Kawashima also doubled and scored a run in for Ventura (4-3).

February 03, 2024JC baseball can be a roller coaster ride, and the Pirates found out first hand on Saturday afternoon at Antelope Valley. After spotting the Marauders an 8-0 lead through five innings, VC scored 11 over the to of the next two frames, only to see AVC plate 12 runs over the final four innings in Ventura's 20-11 loss. Bryce Elias hit a 2-run homer and Henry Borjas had three runs batted in and a run scored in the setback.
