Baseball Comeback Falls Short Against Desert
April 05, 2025The Pirate baseball team trailed 5-0 entering the eighth inning Saturday and scored three runs in the bottom of the frame, but could not complete the comeback against College of the Desert at Pirate Park. Lucas Martinov had a pair of hits, including a 2-run double in the eighth, to lead VC and Matthew Ramirez recorded two hits and scored a run. Jacob Roa had a solid start on the mound, giving up four runs, two earned, with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. -
Baseball Holds Off Rio Hondo For Series Sweep
April 03, 2025The VC baseball team defeated Rio Hondo 11-9 Thursday, the second straight win by the same score over the Roadrunners. The Pirates had to hold off RHC on Thursday, however, holding an 11-5 lead before giving up four late runs in Whittier. Henry Borjas led Ventura with a pair of home runs and three runs batted in while Lucas Martinov had a pair of hits and two RBI. Grant Rodriguez also homered for the Pirates (14-15, 9-6).

Baseball Wins with Massive Comeback
April 01, 2025The Pirate baseball team was nearly dead in the water Tuesday afternoon. They trailed Rio Hondo 9-2 entering the bottom of th eighth inning before sending 14 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs to post an 11-9 victory over the Roadrunners at Pirate Park. Grant Rodriguez delivered a two-RBI single to tie the game and Daniel Aguilera knocked in the game-winner. Austin Kurr retired the final four batters with a pair of K's to pick up the win.

March 29, 2025The VC baseball team dropped a decision at Santa Barbara Saturday afternoon. Tommy Castaneda had a pair of hits, including a double, with two runs batted in and Grant Rodriguez also recorded a pair of base hits. Matthew Ramirez knocked in a pair of runs for VC.

Stillwell's Pitching, hitting Leads VC to Win
March 27, 2025Pirate sophomore Caden Stillwell had a day on Thursday. He went 3-5 at the plate with two doubles and a triple, knocking in three runs while scoring twice. And if that was not enough, he also allowed one hit over eight complete innings on the mound, striking out three to pick up the win in Ventura' s 9-4 victory over Santa Barbara at Pirate Park. Daniel Aguilera was 3-3, including a double, with two walks while batting in one run and scoring twice for VC (12-14, 9-5).

March 25, 2025The Pirate baseball team dropped an 8-5 deciion against Santa Barbara Tuesday at Pershing Park. Shortstop Hunter Cervantes was 2-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored while Henry Borjas had two hits, including a double, and scored twice. Lucas Martinovalso had a pair of hits for Ventura.

March 21, 2025The VC baseball team had difficulty generating runs Friday in their 7-1 setback against Saddleback at Pirate Park. The Pirates did not score until the bottom of the ninth on sacrifice fly by Hunter Cervantes. Tommy Castaneda and Jacob Tostado each had a pair of hits for VC in the game. Jathan Magana and Caden Stillwell combined for three scoreless innings in relief on the mound.

VC Baseball Comes Back Big Only To Fall Late
March 19, 2025The Ventura College baseball team erased a 10-1 deficit at Los Angeles Mission Wednesday only to fall 12-10 against the Eagles in Sylmar. Lucas Martinov was 3-4 at the plate with a double, four runs batted in and a run scored and Grant Rodriguez recorded a single and a double, scoring twice. Victor Tostado provided three innings of scoreless middle relief to give the Pirates a chance at the comeback.

March 18, 2025The VC baseball team defeated Los Angeles Mission on Tuesday at Pirate Park, 115, to bring its season record back to .500 at 11-11. Matthew Ramirez was 3-4 at the plate with a pair of runs scored while Tommy Castaneda and Brandon Contreras batted in three and two runs, respectively. Sean Parkinson had two doubles on the day with an RBI and a runs scored. Ben Drumheller pitched into the seventh inning, giving up three earned runs while yielding two hits to pick up a hard-luck no decision.

March 15, 2025VC pitcher Jacob Roa scattered three hits over seven scoreless innings and Cole Blommer struck out for our his six outs to finish the job as Ventura finished a three-game sweep over Oxnard 8-0 Saturday at Pirate Park. Matthew Ramirez was 3-4 at the plate with a run scored and Henry Borjas recorded a pair of hits with three runs batted in and a run scored in the shutout victory.

March 12, 2025The VC baseball team made it two straight wins against Oxnard on Wednesday with an 8-3 road victory. Caden Stillwell had a double and a single with two runs batted in and a run scored while Matthew Ramirez recorded two hits with two runs scored and an RBI. Hunter Cervantes was 3-5 at the plate. Jacob Tostado pitched five complete innings, giving up two runs on three hits with five strikeouts to pick up the win on the mound. Cole Blommer and Austin Kurr each pitched two innings in relief.

March 11, 2025Ben Drumheller had his best start of the season Tuesday, taking a no-hitter against Oxnard into the eighth inning in Ventura's 7-1 win over the Condors at Pirate Park. Lucas Martinov had three hits, including a double, and scored two runs while Henry Borjas drove in three scores. Caden Stillwell belted out a pair of double and had an RBI for the Pirates in the victory.

March 08, 2025The VC baseball team dropped an 11-7 decision at Cuesta Saturday to fall in the 3-game set with the Cougars. Lucas Martinov had three hits, including a double, and scored three runs in the effortwhile Matthew Ramirez and Daniel Aguilera each ad a pair of hits with two runs batted in. Ventura's relievers of Hudson Gray, Cole Blommer and Austin Kurr threw 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball in the contest. Jacob Tostado and Grant Rodriguez also recorded two hits each.

March 07, 2025A pitchers' duel turned into a slugfest Friday at Pirate Park as Ventrua rallied to defeat Cuesta 10-9. Sixteen of the game's 19 runs were scored from the sixth inning on with the Pirates plating eight scores n the seventh leading to the win. Frederico Tiburtini was 3-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored while Caden Stillwell and Tommy Castaneda each recorded two RBI. Zack Serup had a solid start on the mound pitching into the sixth inning, giving up four runs, three earned, on six hits with six strikeouts.

March 04, 2025The VC baseball team dropped a 10-9 decision in walk-off fashion Tuesday at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. The Pirates led 9-7 heading to the bottom of the seventh but were unable to close out the Cougars. Matthew Ramirez had two hits with two runs batted in and a run scored in the game while Jacob Tostado had three RBI on a pair of hits while also scoring once for the Pirates (6-10, 4-3).

March 01, 2025The VC baseball team honored retired coach Don Adams Saturday at Pirate Park, then proceeded to complete a sweep of rival Moorpark 19-5. Tommy Castaneda had a single and a double, knocking in three runs and scoring three more while Caden Stillwell also had a pair of hits, including a double, with three RBI and two runs scored. Jacob Roa pitched into the sixth inning, giving up two runs and scattering six hits while fanning four Raiders to pick up the win.

February 27, 2025The VC baseball team won their second straight game against Moorpark Thursday, 11-6. Daniel Aguilera recorded three hits, including a pair of doubles, on the day with two runs batted in and two runs scored while Caden Stillwell had three RBI. Matthew Ramirez also scored twice with two RBI on a pair of singles and Henry Borjas crossed home plate twice.Zack Serup picked up the win in relief, pitching the final five innings and giving up two runs, one earned, while striking out four.

February 25, 2025VC pitcher Jacob Tostado had Moorpark's number Tuesday, scattering five hits over seven shutout innings with four strikeouts to pick up the win in the Pirates' 12-1 victory over Moorpark at Pirate Park. Henry Borjas was 4-6 at the plate with a double, two runs batted in and three runs scored and Caden Stillwell totaled three hits with three RBI and a run scored.

February 22, 2025The VC baseball team "traveled" to Pirate Park Saturday to play as the away team against Los Angeles Pierce, falling 6-3 in the series finale against the Brahmas. Caden Stillwell was 1-3 with a run scored and Matthew Ramirez had a hit and a run batted in. Jacob Roa gave up five runs over six complete innings on the mound and Austin Kurr threw two innings in relief.

Cole Howard had a two-RBI double and Caden Stillwell picked up three hits, including a double, in the Pirate victory.

Caden Stillwell had two hits, including a double, and two runs scored and Tommy Castaneda contributed two singles with an RBI. Jacob Tostado had a quality start, throwing six complete innings and allowing four runs while scattering eight hits and striking out four.

Ben Drumheller gave up fove earned runs in five innings of work while Zack Serup and Cole Blommer combined for three frames of scoreless pitching.

Jacob Roa pitched six innings and gave up two earned runs in the opener taking the hard luck loss and Jacob Tostado yielded three earned runs over five frames in the nightcap.

Daniel Aguilera had three hits and a pair of runs batted in while Hector Pina recorded three singles and scored a run. Grant Rodriguez had a single and a double and also plated a score for the Pirates. The VC bullpen threw three innings scattering four hits and striking out three while giving up a single run.

Henry Borjas was 3-5 on the day wit hthree runs batted in and two runs scored to lead the way for the Pirates (2-2). Ben Drumheller knocked in a pair of runs on two hits and Matthew Ramirez scored twice for VC in the victory.Ramirez, Jacob Tostado and Lucas Martinov all had extra base hits in the game.

VC Athletics 13th in California in NATYCAA Cup
August 12, 2024The Ventura College Athletic Department claimed its 14th Top-13 finish in 19 years, placing 13th in California in the 2023-24 all-sports National Association of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup standings. Pirate Athletics totaled 106 points overall, besting its 105.5 points earned in 2022-23 that placed 12th. Ventura was also 17th for the second straight year in the Daktronics Cup Standings with two-years schools from California, Oregon and Washington.
