Veloz, Lyans Headline Pirate All-WSC HonoreesDecember 11, 2014Sophomore outside hitter/opposite Sarah Veloz earned first-team All-Western State Conference honors and VC head coach Brad Lyans was named the WSC North Division Coach of the Year by a vote of conference coaches last month. Veloz leads five Pirate players who garnered All-WSC awards for the 2014 season.

VC (12-11) made its first playoff appearance in seven years in El Cajon, in a breif but memorable match.

Pirate Volleyball Ends Seven-Year Playoff DroughtNovember 24, 2014Mark Twain once wrote, "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated." And so it is with the Ventura College volleyball team in 2014. On the strength of big wins over Santa Monica and Pierce, the Pirates were selected as the No. 15-seed in the CCCAA Regional Playoffs Sunday, ending a seven-year post-season drought for the program.

Sophomores Stand Out in Volleyball Season FinaleNovember 19, 2014The season of redemption came to a close Wednesday night on a high note for the Ventura College women's volleyball team. VC (12-10, 6-6) defeated Los Angeles Mission in San Fernando 25-21, 25-16, 27-25 post the Pirates' best season since 2007 when they finished 12-9.

Pirate Volleyball Sweeps Hancock on Sophomore NightNovember 05, 2014On a night when the Pirate volleyball team honored their graduating sophomores, the Pirates' season of redemption continued. Led by sophomores Kirra Drury, Mehgan Lambert, Sarah Veloz, Makeda Pelle, VC assured itself of its first .500 season in seven years with its 25-19, 25-16, 25-21 sweep of the visiting Allan Hancock Bulldogs.

Spikers Strong in Home Sweep of CuestaOctober 29, 2014On the verge of their first winning season in seven years, the Ventura College volleyball team began the final round of conference play with a strong three-set win over visiting Cuesta College Wednesday night at the Athletic Event Center. Mehgan Lambert led the effort with 10 kills and 11 digs for the Pirates (10-7, 4-3).

Sarah Veloz had 11 kills and Shelby Stanger had 24 assists and three service aces to lead the way for VC (7-5, 1-1).

Pirates Top Owls in Five SetsOctober 01, 2014After dropping the first set, the Pirate volleyball team bounced back to take the next two, ultimately defeating Citrus College in the full five sets on the road in Glendora. Cassadnra Lacanilao and 23 digs and Mehgan Lambert recorded 19 kills to lead Ventura (6-4) in their final non-conference tune-up.

Volleyball Drops Marathon Match in Long BeachSeptember 24, 2014The Pirate volleyball team traveled to Long Beach City College Wednesday night, and after five long sets, were unable to come away with the hard fought victory, dropping the tight match 25-22, 20-25, 23-25, 26-24, 8-15. Mehgan Lambert led VC (5-3) with 14 kills and makeda Pelle contributed seven kills.

The Hornets claimed the match with a three-set victory, 25-12, 29-27, 25-15. Mehgan Lambert led the Pirates (4-2) with 11 kills on the night.

Mehgan Lambert continued her strong offensive play with 13 kills to lead VC (4-1).

Volleyball Defeats Santa Monica in 2014 Home OpenerSeptember 11, 2014The Ventura College volleyball team dropped their first set Wednesday night against visiting Santa Monica College before reeling off three straight winners to defeat the Corsairs 19-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-23. It was the VC’s first win in the Athletic Event Center in over 22 months as the Pirates (3-1) surpassed their win total from a year ago in the season’s fourth match.
