Taking the battle the full five sets, the Pirate volleyball team could not maintain its early advantage, falling 3-2 in Woodland Hills to Pierce College Friday evening. VC (10-8, 4-4) took the first two sets but the Brahmas battled back to take the final three and the match.
Ventrua captured the first set 25-23 and took a commanding lead by winning the second, 25-21. The Brahmas showed character, however, winning the third set 25-20 and forcing a deciding set 25-18 in the fourth. Pirece won the decider 15-7.
Tori Hiott, Sarah Veloz and Mehgan Lambert all had 11 kills for the Pirates in the match and Shelby Stanger handed out 40 assists.
Ventura will host Allan Hancock on Wednesday Nov. 5 at 7:00 pm in its home finale for the 2014 season before heading on the road for its final three matches.
