Sophomore outside hitter/opposite Sarah Veloz earned first-team All-Western State Conference honors and VC head coach Brad Lyans was named the WSC North Division Coach of the Year by a vote of conference coaches last month. Veloz leads five Pirate players who garnered All-WSC awards for the 2014 season.
Veloz was the lone first-team All-WSC selection, but a pair of Pirates were named second-team all-conference. Sophomore outside hitter Mehgan Lambert, and freshman libero Cassandra Lacanilao both were included with the second-team.
Freshman outside hitter Tori Hiott and freshman setter Shelby Stanger each were named honorable mention All-WSC
Lyans earned conference Coach of the Year honors in leading the Pirates in their Season of Redemption.
A year after winning just two matches, and finishing at the bottom of the conference standings, the Pirates became relevant again, posting their first winning record since 2007 and the most conference wins since 2005. Ventrua (12-11, 6-6) added its first playoff appearance in seven seasons to the list of accomplishments this season, as well, finishing the year just outside of the state's top-25 ranking.
