Playing in a State Championships preview at Sandpiper Golf Club in Goleta, the Pirate golf team carded a team score of 396 to place ninth of the 12 participating teams at the Sandpiper Invitational on Monday. Sophomore Joey Herrera posted an even-par 72 to place fifth in the tournament individually to lead the Pirates. Cypress won the team event with a 371 followed by Riverside (378) and Monterey Peninsula (378).
Other Ventura scores included Denis Kakimoto (76), Adam Franc (78), Connor Philpott (83), Jonathon Ortiz (87), and Aaron Friedland (87).
THe Pirates get a week off before heading to the final regular season Western State Conference event of the year, Monday April 23 at San Dimas Golf Club hosted by Citrus College.
