The Pirates' golf team finished in the middle of the pack Monday at the Western State Conference event at Santa Maria Country Club hosted by Allan Hancock College. Ventura carded a team mark of 397, one stroke behind Santa Barbara for fifth place in the nine-team event. Canyons came in first with a 366 followed by Hancock (380), Glendale (386) and SBCC. Jonathon Ortiz and Denis Kakimoto each shot a 5-over 77 to lead the Pirates.
Ortiz and Kakimoto tied for 15th place, individually with their scores of 77. Other VC golfers included Connor Philpott (78), Joey Herrera (79), Aaron Friedland (86) and Adam Franc (77).
VC heads to the non-conference Sandpiper Invitational in Goleta on Monday April 9 before heading to the WSC's regular season finale at San Dimas Golf Club on Monday April 23.
