
VC's Thomas Shea had an outstanding two days in Long Beach, qualifying for the 3C2A State Championships in both the 1m and 3m diving events at the Southern California Diving Championships. The freshman finished seventh overall in the 3m competition and 10th in the 1m event to make state. He also came in third and fourth, respectively, in the concurrent Western State Conference Championships. Meanwhile, Brayden Black also qualified for state with an eighth-place finish in the 1m diving event, good for third in the WSC.
Shea totaled 143.50 points over his six dives to finish seventh overall and third in the WSC in the 3m diving event. Augusta was 10th and fourth, respectively while Ramon Rodriguez came in 11th in SoCal and fifth in the conference.
Black edged out Shea 137.60 to 135.45 in the 1m competition, the difference between eighth and 10th place, overall. The pair were third and fourth, respectively in the WSC contest. Evan Augusta came in 11th and fifth, Rodriguez was 13th and sixth, and Stephen McNaughten was 19th and ninth. Caleb Graffious also competed for VC in the 1m event.
Alex Williams had the best finish for the Pirate women, coming in 11th overall and fourth in the WSC in the 3m diving event. Kayla Foster was 17th and seventh.
In the 1m competition, Sarah Glassman was 19th in SoCal and seventh in the conference while Williams and Foster finished in ninth and 10th, respectively, in the WSC competition.
The Ventura College men's and women's swimming and diving teams next compete at the WSC Championships Thursday-Saturday Apr. 17-19 in Santa Monica.
