Pirate Student Athletes Strong in the Classroom
August 19, 2022Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2021-22, achieving an overall 3.26 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a solid 3.19 overall GPA in the spring. A total of 123 Pirates earned Dean's List honors in the fall of 2021 with a 3.5 GPA or better while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 51 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In the spring, 112 VC student athletes were featured on the Dean's List with 41 posting perfect GPA's. -
Pirate Football Transfers 26 from 2021 Northern Conference Champs
July 25, 2022Ventura College football coach Steve Mooshagian has announced 26 transfers from the 2021 Northern Conference champion Pirates, 13 of whom were mid-year transfers. Among the transfers and signees, 13 are moving on to NCAA Division I, five to NCAA Division II, four to NAIA, three to NCAA Division III, and one will play collegiately in Canada. -
Vaughn, Dixon Named CCCFCA All-Americans
January 10, 2022VC football wide receiver Terrell Vaughn and defensive back Donyai Dixon were named All-Americans for the 2021 season by the California Community College Football Coaches Association. The pair also headlined three VC offensive players and three defensive players who were named to the Region III All-California First Team by the CCCFCA in coaches' meetings held in December. -
Pirate Football Sweeps Top SCFA Northern Awards
December 22, 2021The Ventura College football team swept the top post-season awards in the Northern Conference of the Southern California Football Association for the 2021 season. In voting by the conference coaches, quarterback Jordan Pachot was named the Offensive Player of the Year, cornerback Donyai Dixon earned the Defensive Player of the Year honor, and head coach Steve Mooshagian was named the conference Coach of the Year. VC won the Northern Conference for the seventh time since 2012, producing its second ever undefeated regular season. -
Pirate Turnovers Costly in Playoff Loss
November 27, 2021The top-ranked Ventura College football team turned the ball over three times in the first half of Saturday's Southern California Football Association semifinal at the VC Sportsplex resulting in 21 points for visiting Riverside. Ventura ultimately fell to the Tigers 41-21 ending what was otherwise a perfect season. Record-breaking wide receiver Terrell Vaughn had eight catches for 78 yards and a touchdown and running back Julian Kelly ran for 106 yards and two scores on 14 carries to lead the VC effort. -
No. 1 Pirates Earn Top Seed in SCFA Playoffs
November 22, 2021After the second perfect regular season in school history, the No. 1-ranked Ventrua College football team has received top billing in the Southern California Football Association Playoffs. The Pirates (10-0) will open the post-season on Saturday Nov. 27 at the VC Sportsplex against No. 4-seed Riverside (8-2). Kickoff is slated for 6:00 pm with gates opening at 4:45 pm. -
Pirate Football Completes Undefeated Regular Season
November 13, 2021With the security of a clinched conference championship and playoff berth, the Pirate football team completed its second undefeated regular season in school history with a 44-23 defeat of East Los Angeles College at the Sportsplex Saturday night. The defense and special teams continued to shine with a pair of interception returns for touchdowns by Travis Calloway and Donyai Dixon, and Daquan Benjamin returned a kickoff to the house to help secure the triumph for No. 1-ranked Ventura (10-0, 5-0). -
VC Intercepts Canyons' Upset Bid, Claims Conference Title
November 06, 2021After an early season in which the Pirate football team's offense seemed unstoppable, the defense has made stops lately to preserve the undefeated season. Facing another deficit late in the third quarter, the defense came through again on Donyai Dixon's interception and 90-yard return to the end zone to give Ventura (9-0, 4-0) the lead for good at Canyons Saturday. VC used two more interceptions late to seal the deal, clinching the Northern Conference title and becoming the first team to secure a berth in the state playoffs. -

Pirates Overcome Turnovers, Stage 4th Quarter Comeback
October 30, 2021The Pirate football team, ranked No.1 in Southern California and No. 2 in the state, overcame the turnover bug and staged a dramatic fourth quarter comeback Saturday in Santa Maria, defeating Allan Hancock College 35-34 to remain undefeated on the season. VC trailed 34-21 after the first play of he final period before scoring two touchdowns to claim victory from the jaws of defeat. Julian Kelly totaled 114 yards rushing, including a 27 yard game-winning scamper with 5:03 remaining in the game. -
Ventura Defense Plays Big in Close Victory
October 23, 2021The VC football team's defense has been solid all season long, However, it is sometimes difficult to see when the team came into the contest against Bakersfield averaging 54 points per game. The "D" left little doubt after Saturday, stopping the Renegades on a number of key possessions down the stretch to preserve a 23-17 victory, moving No. 2-ranked Ventura to 7-0 on the season. -
Pirates Run Over Vikings in Northern Conference Opener
October 16, 2021The Pirate football team used its deep and strong group of running backs to run over Long Beach 66-21 Saturday in their Northern Conference opener at the Sportsplex. VC amassed 400 yards on the ground with five rushing touchdowns by five different runners in the victory. The VC defense also had a pair of touchdowns, including a 100 yard interception return by CJ Hodgdon and a fumble recovery in the end zone by Russell Henderson. -
Pirate Football Spoils Saddleback's Stadium Opening
October 02, 2021Saddleback planned a big party on Saturday to open their new football stadium in Mission Viejo. The Pirates spoiled the opening with a 31-17 victory over the Bobcats. Quarterback Jordan Pachot overcame a difficult start to pass for 279 yards and a pair of touchdowns and the Ventura defense forced key turnovers that led to a pair of VC touchdowns in the victory. -
Pirates Dominate Chaffey, Move to 4-0
September 25, 2021The Pirate football team put on a show Saturday night at the VC Sportsplex, dominating visiting Chaffey College 60-0 in the program's largest margin of victory over a community college team in nearly a century of play. Quarterback Jordan Pachot threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns and Ventura gained 243 yards on the ground with four more scores. The Ventura defense held the Panthers to 147 yards of total offense posting its first shutout on the field since 2017. -
Special Teams and Defense Come Up Big in Pirate Victory
September 18, 2021The Pirates' special teams and defense came up big Saturday in the VC football team's 58-37 victory at El Camino College in Torrance. Chris Atkins opened the game with a 96-yard kickoff return to paydirt, and Donyal Dixon and Chris Lyons each scored defensive touchdowns via interception and fumble recovery, respectively as No. 3-ranked Ventura moved to 3-0 on the young season. -
VC Makes Big Plays in 49-21 Win Over Mesa
September 11, 2021The big play led the Pirate football team to a big victory Saturday in their 2021 home opener at the VC Sportsplex. Third-ranked Ventura scored five touchdowns on plays 20 yards or longer in their 49-21 defeat of No. 16 San Diego Mesa, while the sixth score was on a leaping catch in the back of the end zone and the seventh came one play following an interception. VC quarterback Jordan Pachot was an efficient 14-23 for 239 yards and four touchdowns and Terrell Vaughn found paydirt three times, including on a 91-yard punt return. -
Pirates Dominate Raiders in 53rd Citrus Cup Match-Up
September 04, 2021Saturday's 53rd edition of the Citrus Cup game between Ventura and Moorpark was over almost as soon as it began. Donyal Dixon stuffed MC's opening kickoff return behind the 20-yard line on the opening play of the game and Chuck Wick scampered 30 yards to the end zone on VC's opening possession, just over three minutes into the game, beginning a dominant performance by the Pirates in the in the season opening 62-5 victory at Griffin Stadium in Moorpark. -
Pirate Athletics Ready to Welcome Fans Back to Campus
September 01, 2021For the first time in 542 days, Ventura College Athletics is poised to welcome fans back on campus. On Thursday the Pirate soccer team hosts Golden West College at 8:00 pm at the VC Sportsplex, concluding three games in the 2021 new Balance Community College Showcase. Santa Barbara and Orange Coast will open the showcase at 1:00 pm, followed at 6:00 pm by Hartnell and Cypress. VC plays the marquee game of day one of the three-day event. -
VC's Fall Sports Returns to Competition
August 26, 2021Ventura College's fall sports return to competition on Friday August 27. When the Pirate volleyball team takes the court against Monterey Peninsula at 12:30 pm in the LA Mission Kickoff Classic it will mark the Pirates' first official fall sports contest in 21 months. The VC women's soccer team opens its 2021 season on Sunday Aug. 29 at Mt. San Antonio College beginning a full week of games in Pirate Athletics' return.
