
The Ventura College baseball team placed four players on the first team All-Western State Conference list in voting by the North Division coaches following the 2024 season. First baseman Haiden Letzing led the contingent with a Gold Glove Award in addition to his first team all-conference recognition. Other Pirates named first team All-WSC included designated hitter Peter Dufau, outfielder Bryce Elias and starting pitcher Luca Staiano.
Letzing, a sophomore from Vancouver, BC, hit .303/.391/.355 for VC in 2024 with 46 hits, 32 runs scored and 30 runs batted in while playing all 38 games for the Pirates. He also posted a .991 fielding percentage with 324 putouts, 17 assists and just three errors in 344 defensive chances to earn the Gold Glove for the WSC North.
Dufau, a redshirt freshman, had an outstanding year at the plate with a team best .314 batting average among players with over 100 at bats. The Camarillo High School product played in 27 games and posted a .880 OBPS at the plate with 32 hits and 23 RBI.
A native of Toronto, ON, Elias had a .905 OBPS and tied for the team lead with 12 extra base hits during the season. The sophomore was third in the WSC North with four triples in his 27 appearances in the orange and black.
Staiano, a sophomore, was the ace of the Pirates' pitching staff with a 5-3 record in 12 starts in 2024. The Newbury Park High School alumnus nearly doubled his next teammate with 72.2 innings pitched and he recorded 66 strikeouts and a 1.27 WHIP.
Freshman catcher Dylan Jackson earned second team All-WSC honors with a team best five home runs. A Thousand Oaks High School grad, the redshirt freshman also had a team-best seven doubles among his 34 total hits for the season in 37 games played.
Shortstop Jacob Tostado (Fr., Camarillo HS), outfielder David King (Fr., Newmarket, ON) and pitcher Harrison Cordeiro (So., Chicago, IL) were named honorable mention All-WSC for Ventura.
The Pirates were 19-19 on the season and 13-15 in WSC North play, good for a fourth place finish ahead of Moorpark, Oxnard and LA Pierce in the standings.
