VC Alumnus Ryan Jones Drafted by Chicago White SoxJuly 08, 2014Ryan Jones '11 has become the ninth VC alumnus to be selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft in the past decade. He was selected in the 27th round by the Chicago White Sox, the 798th player selected overall.

Pirate Baseball Transfers 10July 07, 2014Ventura College baseball is proud to announce for the second consecutive year the Pirates will transfer double digit numbers of student athletes continuing their academic and collegiate baseball careers at four-year universities around the country. The Pirates sent 10 players to the next level a year ago and have matched that number of transfers in 2014.

Crawford, Watson Earn Regional and State HonorsJuly 06, 2014Pirate baseball sophomores Harrison Crawford and and Tyler Watson continue to rack up post-season awards. Crawford was honored on the All-State team (formerly the All-American team) at third base and was selected third-team All-Pacific Association, a regional award within the states of California, Oregon and Washington. Watson, meanwhile was named All-Southern California for his efforts as a pitcher and at first base.

Crawford, Watson, Fullerton All-WSCMay 22, 2014Sophomore third baseman Harrison Crawford led six Pirates to All-Western State Conference North Division honors for the Pirate baseball team. The Mater Dei Academy product from Oxnard was named the most-outstanding hitter in the conference with the Big Stick Award. Meanwhile, sophomore first baseman/pitcher Tyler Watson and freshman outfielder Bradley Fullerton also garnered first-team All-WSC accolades in voting by the conference coaches last month.

Baseball Ends Season With WinApril 24, 2014The Pirate baseball team ended the season with a 5-2 victory at Allan Hancock College Thursday in Santa Maria, closing the 2014 year with four consecutive wins and victories in five of their final seven games. Sophomore Tyler Watson pitched a complete game for his seventh win of the season and had a pair of hits at the plate, including a two-run homer in the eighth inning for VC (15-20, 9-11). Harrison Crawford was 3-5 at the plate with a run scored and Brian Magana produced two hits and scored a run. Bradley Fullerton had a two-RBI triple in the ninth inning to put the game away.

Domke Shines on Mound for VCApril 22, 2014In his final start of the season, Shawn Domke scattered six hits in a complete game shutout of Allan Hancock College at Pirate Park Tuesday. The Ventura offense managed six hits and scored a pair of runs, which was just good enough to win their 2014 home finale 2-0. Tyler Watson and Bradley Fullerton each singled and scored while Harrison Crawford and Michael Volaski each produced RBI doubles for the Pirates (14-20, 8-11).

VC Comes From Behind for WinApril 18, 2014The Pirate baseball team allowed four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning before staging a comeback with a run in the sixth and four scores in the eighth to defeat Mt. San Antonio College 5-4 Friday under the lights in Walnut. Alex Van Es came in with 4.1 scoreless innings in relief to pick up his first win and Bradley Fullerton had a pair of RBI and scored the winning run to lead the opportunistic Pirate offense. Tim Ginther had a hit, scored a run, and batted in a run and Harrison Crawford knocked in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning with a single.

Pirate Bats Heat Up at PCCApril 16, 2014A day after Jackie Robinson Say was celebrated throughout major league baseball, the Pirate baseball team celebrated a victory at Jackie Robinson Field in Pasadena on Wednesday. The VC offense heated up with 14 runs and 16 hits as the Pirates defeated Pasadena City College 14-6. Michale Volaski was 3-4, including a double, with three runs scored and a pair of RBI while Brian Magana was 2-2 with two walks, two RBI and four runs scored. Garrett Serino had a pair of hits and batted in two runs and Scott Morton had two hits with an RBI. Tyler Watson threw another solid outing pitching seven shutout innings to pick up his sixth win of the year.

VC Falters Late vs. GlendaleApril 15, 2014Pirate pitcher Shawn Domke allowed just two runs over seven innings, but the VC bullpen and the Pirate bats could not keep pace, as the Ventura College baseball team fell 7-1 Tuesday against Glendale College at Pirate Park. Pirate relievers allowed five runs in the final two frames, and VC (11-20, 7-11) managed just one run despite having runners on in seven different innings in the contest. Domke struck out six, but received the loss in the game while Tim Ginther and Bradley Fullerton each had two hits. Tyler Watson scored VC's lone run on Scott Morton's ground-out in the eighth inning.

Pirate Comeback Falls ShortApril 11, 2014After scoring one run in the eighth inning, the Pirates crossed the plate twice in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to come back from a 6-3 deficit, but despite holding Cuesta scoreless for the next five frames, VC could not complete the comeback, falling 9-6 to the Cougars in 15 innings Friday at Pirate Park. Bradley Fullerton had three hits while Tyler Watson had a pair of hits with an RBI and a run scored. Tim Ginther also had a pair of hits and scored twice for VC (11-19, 7-11). Steven Martinez threw six scoreless innings of relief for Ventura before giving up three unearned runs in the top of the 15th.

Ventura Wins Third vs. CuestaApril 10, 2014For the third time this season, the Pirate baseball team took on the Cuesta Cougars, and for the third time this season, VC came out on top, 7-3 on Thursday in san Luis Obispo. Harrison Crawford continued to swing a strong bat with a 3-4 performance with a home run while scoring two runs with four RBI. Tyler Watson pitched into the ninth inning for the victory and had a double and two runs scored at the plate. Michael Volaski also had a hit with an RBI and Garrett Serino recorded a hit with a run scored for the Pirates (11-18, 7-10).

Big Inning Dooms VC at LAPCApril 08, 2014The Pirate baseball team gave up one big inning Tuesday at Los Angeles Pierce, and it cost them as the Brahmas prevailed over VC 5-2 to split the season series. Pierce scored four times with two outs in the second inning and held on down the stretch. Harrison Crawford had an RBI single in the first inning and a home run in the sixth to produce the Pirates' only runs of the day. Tyler Watson doubled and scored and Brian Magana had a double for VC (10-18, 6-10). David Newland and Bradley Fullerton also had singles for the Pirates.

Baseball Upends Pierce, 9-2April 05, 2014Using an offensive explosion, the Ventura College baseball team used 16 hits to power a 9-2 win over Los Angeles Pierce College Saturday afternoon at Pirate Park. Tim Ginther, Harrison Crawford and Brian Magana all had three hits on the day, with Ginther knocking in two runs, Crawford scoring twice, and Magana scoring once with an RBI for VC (10-17, 6-9). David Newland had a pair of hits, including a double, with an RBI and two runs scored and Bradley Fullerton also had two hits. Colton Follett pitched six strong innings with seven strikeouts while allowing two earned runs.

Pirates Swept by No. 1 OxnardApril 03, 2014They put up a fight until the end, but ultimately the Pirate baseball team did not have enough to tackle the No. 1-ranked Oxnard Condors. VC dropped a 7-3 decision Thursday at Pirate Park as Oxnard swept the season series from the Pirates. Ventura (9-17, 5-9) allowed five unearned runs in the fourth inning on a two-out rally following an error in the game-deciding frame. Harrison Crawford was the only Pirate with two hits and he also scored a run. David Newland had a two-RBI single in the ninth inning and Shayne Distl knocked in a run with a single in the eighth.

Baseball Shut Out at OxnardApril 01, 2014Runs have been hard to come by against he top-ranked Oxnard College pitching staff. The Pirates found that out first hand as they fell to the Condors 4-0 in Oxnard on Tuesday afternoon. Ventura (9-16, 5-8) was limited to five singles as a team, but they were not without their chances, having two batters reach base in the first and ninth innings and having the bases loaded with one out in the fifth. Harrison Crawford reached base three times with two hits and a hit by pitch and Brian Magana recorded a hit and a walk in the game.

VC Short Against VaquerosMarch 29, 2014The Pirate baseball team fell behind to Santa Barbara, 6-0 and could not mount a comeback with single runs in the fifth, sixth, seventh, and ninth innings in their 8-4 loss to the Vaqueros at Pirate Park Saturday. Scott Morton was the only Pirate with more than one hit and Tim Ginther had a pair of RBI. Mykel Davis had VC's only extra base knock, a double, as Ventura (9-15, 5-7) dropped the season series to SBCC 3-1. Logen Letofsky only made it into the fourth inning on the mound, as VC used seven pitchers on the day.

Surging Pirates Win AgainMarch 27, 2014Don't look now, but the Pirate baseball team is finding its stride in the tough Western State Conference North Division, VC won its fourth game in the past five outings with a 5-1 victory at Santa Barbara City College Thursday afternoon at Pershing Park. Ventura (9-14, 5-6) took advantage of three Vaquero errors in the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead, adding another unearned run in the contest. Tyler Watson pitched his third straight complete game, extending his scoreless streak to 21 innings before SBCC scored once in the sixth. Garrett Serino and Harrison Crawford each had two hits, scored a run, and batted in a run while Tim Ginther also had a pair of hits with one run scored.

Watson Named CCCBCA PoWMarch 26, 2014The CCCBCA is proud to announce Ventura Sophomore Tyler Watson as the Southern California Player of the Week. Watson was 6-12 on the week at the plate with two doubles, a triple, six RBI and six runs scored. The Pirates went 2-1 on the week with a pair of victories over Cuesta College.

Big First Inning Propels VCMarch 25, 2014Ventura College baseball took advantage of a four-run first inning and picked up another road victory on Tuesday at No. 9 Allan Hancock College, 7-3. The Pirates did not have many hit with four, but they made them count along with four walks and three hit batters. VC (8-14, 4-6) was able to put up seven runs, four in the first and three in the sixth for the victory. Tyler Watson had a hit with two RBI and he scored another run while Harrison Crawford added a two-RBI double and also scored. Shawn Domke picked up the win on the mound with 6.2 solid innings.

Baseball Streak Stops at TwoMarch 22, 2014The Ventura College baseball winning streak stopped at two games as the Pirates fell to Allan Hancock College 6-2 Saturday at Pirate Park. Bulldog pitching limited VC (7-14, 3-6) to eight singles offensively. Bradley Fullerton had a pair of hits and scored a run while Michael Volaski also had two safeties. Jordan Simon had a single and an RBI while Tyler Watson produced an RBI on a Sacrifice fly. Logan Letofsky limited Hancock to four earned runs into the seventh inning, while Nathan Coakley and Steven Martinez each had scoreless appearances on the mound.

VC Makes It a Winning StreakMarch 20, 2014The Pirate baseball team won its second consecutive game Thursday, and its third victory in four outings, with a 6-0 blanking of Cuesta at Pirate Park. VC (7-13, 3-5) broke open a 1-0 game with three runs in the sixth inning and another two in the eighth. Tyler Watson pitched a complete game shutout for his third win of the season and Mykel Davis two hits and two RBI. Harrison Crawford had a double, an RBI, and scored two runs and Tim Ginther tripled and scored a run. Watson also had a single and scored twice to help his own cause.

Pirate Bats Awaken at CuestaMarch 18, 2014After a slumber of nearly a month, the Pirate baseball team's offense woke up in a big way, leading the charge to a 17-8 win at Cuesta College Tuesday in San Luis Obispo. Tyler Watson led Ventura (6-13, 2-5), batting 5-6 with a triple and a pair of doubles, four runs scored and three RBI. Harrison Crawford had four hits, including a triple, with five RBI and a run scored while Garrett Serino was 2-5 with a walk, three runs scored, and a pair of runs batted in. Tim Ginther had two hits and two RBI with four runs scored. Shawn Domke pitched seven quality innings to pick up the win.

Brahmas Top VC on DiamondMarch 15, 2014The Pirate bats ran and hid on Saturday, as Los Angeles Pierce College came to Pirate Park and left with a 12-1 victory. Ventura (5-13, 1-5) managed just five hits on the day, scoring in the seventh inning when Brian Magana singled with one out, and David Newland followed that with a two-out double. Michael Volaski, Harrison Crawford and Bradley Fullerton also singled for VC in the game. Logen Letofsky was the first of 10 Pirate pitchers to see action on the day.

Pirates Top Pierce to End SkidMarch 13, 2014After three weeks of close calls and missed opportunities, the Ventura College baseball team snapped their losing streak on Thursday afternoon with a 7-1 win over Los Angeles Pierce College in Woodland Hills. VC (5-12, 1-4) jumped out to an early 5-1 lead and added a pair of insurance runs late in the victory. Tyler Watson stood tall on the mound throwing a fantastic game his second straight strong start.

VC Falls to Oxnard, 5-1March 11, 2014Ventura College Baseball dropped another game Tuesday, 5-1 to No. 2-ranked Oxnard College, and while VC's play has improved, positive results have still not come. The Pirates (4-12, 0-4) took a 1-0 lead but failed to cash in on on two additional runners in the third inning and the score remained the same until the Condors scored three times in the sixth. Shawn Domke responded after a pair of tough outings to give Ventura six quality innings on the mound with three runs allowed. Nathan Coakley added a scoreless ninth inning with a strikeout. Dylan Colman had two hits and Tim Ginther added an RBI double.

Baseball's Hard Luck ContinuesMarch 08, 2014The Pirate baseball team's hard luck continued Saturday in Oxnard as VC took an early lead, but fell 3-1 to the Condors in Western State Conference action. VC plated an unearned run in the top of the first, but Oxnard answered with two in the bottom half of the inning, and added an insurance run in the seventh. Tim Ginther had a pair of hits and scored for the Pirates while Harrison Crawford also had two hits. Logen Letofsky had a solid outing of 6.2 innings but picked up the loss for Ventura (4-11, 0-3).

Pirates Lose in Walk Off at SBMarch 06, 2014In a season that has not started the the Ventura College baseball team had hoped, the Pirates continue to battle against one of the toughest schedules in team history. That struggle continued Thursday afternoon as the VC (4-10, 0-2) dropped a 5-4 decision in walk-off fashion at No. 2-ranked Santa Barbara City College. Tyler Watson pitched a strong 7.2 innings, giving up four hits with six strikeouts, allowing four unearned runs after a two-out error in the seventh inning. At the plate he added three hits to the Ventura attack while scoring a run.

Baseball Drops WSC OpenerMarch 04, 2014The Pirate baseball team returned home for their Western State Conference opener, but were unable to notch a "W", falling 8-3 to Santa Barbra City College. The big inning did the Pirates in once again as they allowed six runs to the Vaqueros in the third inning.

Ventura Slide ContinuesFebruary 27, 2014In baseball a slide into home can be a good thing, but the slide the Pirates are on is not. VC dropped another contest on the road, 11-1 at Los Angeles Mission College Thursday, thankfully ending a four-game road swing for VC (4-8). Ventura managed just three hits on the day, from Tyler Volaski, David Newland and Tyler Shoop. Jordan Simon walked and scored VC's lone run of the contest in the eighth inning. Tyler Watson made the start on the mound for the Pirates and was the first of six pitchers on the day for VC.

Pirate Comeback Falls ShortFebruary 25, 2014The Pirate baseball team continued its road struggles Tuesday afternoon in Glendora, falling behind 9-1 after three innings before almost staging an incredible comeback at Citrus College in Glendora. Sophomore Tyler Watson collected three hits, drove in two runs, and scored another to lead VC's offense as it came close in their 11-10 loss to the Owls. The Pirate bullpen held the Owls to three runs over the final 6.1 innings allowing Ventura (4-7) to mount their comeback attempt.
