Pirate Student Athletes Strong in the ClassroomAugust 19, 2022Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2021-22, achieving an overall 3.26 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a solid 3.19 overall GPA in the spring. A total of 123 Pirates earned Dean's List honors in the fall of 2021 with a 3.5 GPA or better while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 51 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In the spring, 112 VC student athletes were featured on the Dean's List with 41 posting perfect GPA's.

Men's Tennis Recognized for Academics by ITAJuly 26, 2022The Ventura College men's tennis team has once again been named an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association while seven team members have been named Junior College Men's Scholar Athletes by the ITA in a release last week. The Pirates posted a 3.74 overall grade point average in the spring 2022 semester to be one of eight programs, one of two from California, to be recognized nationally.

Men's Tennis Dominates All-WSC SelectionsJune 11, 2022After a dominant season in which the Pirates' men's tennis team went 6-0 in Western State Conference play, winning 52 of 54 matches in those six contests, it comes as no suirprise that VC dominated the All-WSC awards handed out at the conclusion of the season. Five Pirates were named first team All-WSC in singles while all three doubles pairs earned first team all-conference recognition as voted upon by the conference coaches.

Men's Tennis Ends Season in State QuarterfinalsMay 06, 2022The VC men's tennis season came to a close Friday with a pair of players in the state quarterfinals in singles and two doubles teams also advancing to the round of eight at the CCCAA State Championships at Mt. San Antonio College. Brodie Sodersten and Philemon Jabin each won their first singles match before bowing out of the draw, as did the duos of Jabin and Jinsei Tajima along with Yuya Koide and Ryan Lam.

Jabin, Sodersten, Two Doubles Teams Qualify for StateApril 29, 2022Pirate tennis singles players Philemon Jabin and Brodie Sodersten both qualified for the CCCAA State Championships with victories Saturday at the SoCal Regionals at Fullerton College. Additionally, Jabin and Jinsei Tajima along with Yuya Koide and Ryan Lam qualified for state in doubles play. The CCCAA State Championships will be held May 5-6 at Mt. San Antonio College.

Pirate Tennis Ends Run in Regional FinalApril 16, 2022The No. 2-seeded VC men's tennis team ended their run in the Southern California Regional Playoffs Saturday with a 5-0 loss at No. 1 College of the Desert in Palm Desert. The Pirates (18-1) suffered their first defeat of the year at the hands of the undefeated Roadrunners in a competitive match-up that was closer than the final score indicated.

Men's Tennis Advances to Regional FinalsApril 12, 2022The VC men's tennis team remained unbeaten in 2022 and advanced to the Southern California Regional finals with a 5-0 victory over San Diego City College Tuesday at the VC Tennis Center. The No. 2-seeded Pirates swept the doubles competition before Sam Ashbrook and Jinsei Tajima posted victories in singles play to clinch the match over the No. 4-seeded Knights.

Sodersten Claims WSC Men's Singles TitleApril 08, 2022VC's Brodie Sodersten became the latest Pirate men's tennis player to win the Western State Conference singles championship on Friday. Additionally, he and doubles partner Sam Ashbrook won their semifinal match before falling the doubles title match to complete the day.

Men's Tennis Blanks El Camino in Playoff OpenerApril 05, 2022The No. 2-seeded Ventura College men's tennis team easily disposed of No. 8 El Camino Tuesday in the SoCal Regional Quarterfinals at the VC Tennis Center, 5-0. Jinesi Tajima and Yuya Koide each finished their singles matches after the Pirates (17-0) swept doubles play to clinch the win for VC.

Men's Tennis Earns No. 2 Seed in SoCal PlayoffsApril 03, 2022The Ventura College men's tennis team has earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Southern California regional Playoffs. The Pirates (16-0) will host No. 7 (8) El Camino (8-5) on Tuesday April 5 at 2:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center.

Ventura Continues Strong Play in WSC TourneyApril 02, 2022The VC men's tennis team continued its extraordinarily strong performance in the Western State Conference Singles and Doubles Championships Saturday. Brodie Sodersten and Santino Serralonga advanced to the men's singles finals while VC also had three of four teams move into the doubles semifinals. The tournament is set to conclude Friday April 8 at the VC Tennis Center.

VC Dominates First Day of WSC Singles & Doubles TourneyApril 01, 2022The Ventura College men's tennis team dominated the first day of the Western State Conference singles and doubles championships Friday at the VC Tennis Center. The Pirates were 13-0 in singles play, advancing to seven of the eight remaining spots in the draw. Meanwhile, VC was 3-0 in doubles play with a bye as they occupied half of the remaining duos in doubles play.

WSC Tennis Championships Return to Ventura CollegeMarch 30, 2022After three years away, the Western State Conference men's and women's singles and doubles tennis championships are returning to the VC Tennis Center. Action will commence on Thursday March 31 beginning with women's singles play at 2:00 pm while men's singles begins Friday April 1 at 10:00 am. An opening ceremony along with presentation of all-conference awards will take place on the championship courts at 9:00 am on Friday April 1.

Ventura Nearly Has Nothing But Love for Orange CoastMarch 22, 2022The VC men's tennis team nearly shut out Orange Coast Tuesday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center, allowing OCC to win just two games the entire match in Ventura's final regular season contest. After winning three doubles matches 8-0, the VC Pirates posted five love and love wins in singles play and won the other two and love as they swept the OCC Pirates to complete an undefeated regular season.

Ventura Rolls to Three Wins at North/South ShootoutMarch 20, 2022The VC men's tennis team rolled to three victories Saturday and Sunday in the North-South Shootout in Bakersfield. VC opened with an 8-0 win over Foothill Saturday before defeating Chabot 7-0 and North No. 1-ranked American River 8-1 on Sunday. Am Ashbrook and Yuya Koide and both earned six points in the two matches for the Pirates (15-0, 6-0).

Ventura Tennis Continues Roll, Sweeps FullertonMarch 17, 2022The VC men's tennis team maintained its roll through the season with a 9-0 sweep at Fullerton on Thursday afternoon. Philemon Jabin and Jinsei Tajima shutout their opponents in doubles play while Santino Serralonga and Ryan Lam each did not lose a game in singles play for the Pirates (12-0, 6-0), Thursday's win was VC's eighth sweep in 12 matches this season and their 21st straight dual match victory over community college competition dating back through the 2020 season.

Ventura (11-0, 6-0) dropped just six games the entire match with Yuya Koide, Sam Ashbrook, Santino Serralonga and Regnar Madarang all completing love love sweeps in singles play.

Pirate Tennis Clinches WSC ChampionshipMarch 03, 2022The VC men's tennis team defeated Glendale 8-1 on the road Thursday to clinch outright the program's 21st Western State Conference championship. Sam Ashbrook, Brodie Sodersten, Yuya Koide and Jinsei Tajima all were double winners for VC (10-0, 5-0), who remained undefeated on the season.

Another Sweep for Pirate Tennis in WSC ActionMarch 01, 2022If they are not careful, this could become a habit. The VC men's tennis team posted another sweeping victory Tuesday, shutting out Santa Barbara 9-0 at the VC Tennis Center. The undefeated Pirates (10-0, 4-0) have swept six of their wins this season and clinched at least a share of the Western State Conference title with the triumph on Tuesday. Philemon Jabin headlined the day with a win in No. 3 doubles with Jinsei Tajima, and another victory in No. 1 singles.

III Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. Brodie Sodersten, Sam Ashbrook, Yuya Koide and Jinsei Tajima all won in singles and doubles to lead the way for the Pirates (8-0, 3-0).

Ventura Men's Tennis Sweeps Past SaddlebackFebruary 25, 2022The Ventura College men's tennis team posted its fifth sweep in seven matches blanking Saddleback 9-0 Friday in Mission Viejo. yuya Koide, Sam Ashbrook, Jinsei Tajima and Santino Serralonga all recorded love and love victories in singles play against the Bobcats.

Brodie Sodersten and Sam Ashbrook did not give up a game in doubles play while Santino Serralonga and Regnar Madarang recorded shutout wins in singles competition.

Men's Tennis remains Perfect at RiversideFebruary 17, 2022The VC men's tennis team remained perfect on the season with their fourth sweep in five matches, defeating Riverside City College 9-0 Thursday. Ryan Lam teamed with Yuya Koide in No. 2 doubles for an 8-2 win, then won in No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-0 to lead the victory parade for Ventura (5-0, 2-0).

VC Defeats NCAA Div. II Fresno Pacific,6-1February 08, 2022The VC men's tennis team went on the road Tuesday, traveling to play NCAA Division II Fresno Pacific University and coming home with a 6-1 victory over the Sunbirds. The Pirates (4-0) won two of three doubles matches to claim the point, and prevailed in five singles contests for the victory. Brodie Sodersten, Sam Ashbrook, and Philemon Jabin all were double winners for Ventura.

Ventura Continues Hot Start with Sweep of MountiesFebruary 05, 2022The VC men's tennis team continued their hot start to the 2022 season with their third straight sweep, this one a dominant 9-0 win over Mt. San Antonio College at the VC Tennis Center Saturday. The Pirates (3-0, 2-0) dropped just seven games in the nine matches, winning seven points without dropping a game. Yuya Koide and Jinsei Tajima both earned two points in shutout victories in separate singles and doubles matches.

Pirates Sweep Vaqueros in Home DebutFebruary 03, 2022The VC men's tennis team made its 2022 home debut Thursday, making quick work of the visiting Glendale College Vaqueros, winning 9-0. The Pirates dropped a total of seven games in the entire match in moving to 2-0 on the young season. Philemon Jabin, Brodie Sodersten, Yoya Koide and Sam Ashbrook were all double-winners for Ventura.

The Pirate trio of Santino Serralonga, Regnar Madarang and Sam Ashbrook did not drop a game on the back half of singles play winning the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 slots each love and love.
