The VC beach volleyball team was swept in a pair of matches in Cal State Northridge on Friday. The Pirates lost to the host Matadors, an NCAA Division I team, 5-0 before falling to Long Beach City College 4-1. VC's No. 4 team of Janessa Simental and Armonee Hunter earned Ventura's lone victory of the day, a come-from-behind 21-23, 21-16, 15-13 win over Long Beach.
THe first match of the day was not close, as one would expect against a four-year NCAA school. The No. 1 team of Paris Dosch and Tori Hiott kept things interesting, falling 21-15, 21-15, and the No. 3 duo of Sariah Flores and Paulina Iverson fell 21-16, 21-11.
Against Long Beach, most of the first sets were close before VC ran out of steam toward the end of the day. Flores and Iverson fell 22-20, 21-13 while the No. 5 team of Daisy Martinez and Carina Cates lost 23-21, 21-12.
Ventura (1-4) will open its home schedule on Friday March 10 against Rio Hondo and Santa Rosa. Play is to begin at 10:00 am at the Ventura Marina's Harbor Cove Courts.
