The VC men's and women's track and field teams hit the road on Saturday at the Santa Monica Classic for sprinters and jumpers. Aubrianna Smith was a double winner in the 100 m and 200m for the women and Gillian Serate won the long jump. Jake Reinwald, meanwhile, was a double winner for the men, taking the long jump and 100m.
Aubrianna captured the 100m and 200m races with her 100 meter time currently ranked No. 7 in California. She was also on the runner-up 4x100m relay team which is currently ranked No. 11 in California with teammates Serate, Catalina Escobal, and Tajanae Mack. Serate and Escobal went 1-2 in the long jump, while Mack took second in the 100m hurdles and fourth in the 400m. Alexandra Sanchez and Cristina Cortes were sixth and seventh in the 1500m. Caroline Smith was fifth and eighth in the 200m and 100m, respectively. Cecilia Cano was 13th in the 800m.
Reinwald was double winner, taking the long jump and 100m. He is currently ranked No. 10 in the state for the long jump and No. 14 in the 100m. Julian Gibson had another impressive performance, placing second in the 400m, behind the current state leader, and third in the 200m. His 400m time is ranked No. 6 in California, and his 200m is ranked No. 12. They joined teammates Andre Lanns and Brandon Sarmiento to place second in the 4x100m relay. Iak Wright placed fifth in the triple jump while Pierson Reynolds was eighth in the 800m. Lanns finished in eighth in the 100m and Jack Cabrera was eighth in the 400m. Arthur Michie broke the tape in fourth place in the 110m hurdles.
A few pirates who did not compete in Santa Monica are also listed on the California State Performance List including Alisann Tolosa, No. 3 in the 800m; Brieanna Tafoya, No. 4 in the 800m and No. 5 in the 1500m; Olivia Burton, No. 3 in the 3000m, No. 9 in the 5000m and No. 14 in the 1500m; and Isabelle Egbert, No. 15 in the 3000m.
The Pirates have the next weekend off to reload before competing at the Occidental Distance Carnival on Saturday March 14.
