Pirates Claim Back-to-Back WSC Titles
April 19, 2024The VC beach volleyball team claimed its second straight Western State Conference championship Friday with a 3-2 win over Santa Monica and a 4-1 triumph over Bakersfield at the Ventura Harbor Cove Courts. Autumn Rojelio and Bryce Swain claimed a pair of wins as the No. 1 pair to lead the way, along with two wins by Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson at no. 2 and Gracie Piro and Gabby Raines at No. 4. -
Beach Volleyball Returns to Top of WSC
April 12, 2024With a reworked line-up, the Ventura College beach volleyball team returned to the top of the Western State Conference standings Friday with a pair of victories at Santa Barbara's East Beach. VC gained a measure of retribution in the opener, defeating the host Vaqueros 3-2 after SBCC's win at Ventura on March 29. The Pirates then swept Glendale in the second match of the day to climb into the driver's seat in the conference race with two matches remaining.

Beach Volleyball Shuffle Earns Two Wins
April 05, 2024The Pirate beach volleyball team shuffled its line-up due to injury Friday, but still came out with a pair of wins in chilly but dry conditions in Bakersfield. VC's No. 4 pairing of Lily Hazzard and Makena Schaumloeffel clinched the 3-2 win against Bakersfield and Autumn Rojelio and Bryce Swain won a pair of matches at No. 2 for the Pirates (13-5, 7-1).

March 29, 2024The Pirates' beach volleyball team split a pair of Western State Conference matches Friday, defeating Moorpark 3-2 before falling to Santa Barbara 3-2 at the Ventura Harbor Cove Courts. Gracie Piro and Gabby Raines won a pair of matches at their No. 4 slot while Bryce Swain and Lily Hazzard posted two sweeps at No. 3 for Ventura (11-6, 5-1).

March 22, 2024The VC beach volleyball team racked up two more wins Friday in Santa Monica, sweeping Moorpark 5-0 before defeating the host Corsairs 4-1. Bryce Swain and Lilly Hazzard recorded a pair of sweeps on the day while Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson, Kayla Murdoch and Autuimn Rojelio, and Makena Schaumloeffel and Liz Schalde all swept one match and prevaile din three sets in another for Ventura (10-4, 4-0).

March 15, 2024The VC beach volleyball team opened Western State Conference play Friday with sweeps over Cuesta and Glendale at the Harbor Cove Courts. The Pirates' No. 1 pair of Autumn Rojelio and Kayla Murdoch won by over 11-points per set and the No. 3 team of Bryce Swain and Lily Hazzard had a big win against Cuesta in the opener. the No. 2 pair of Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson also won a pair of matches on the court for Ventura (8-4, 2-0).

March 01, 2024The Pirates' beach volleyball team split a pair of matched Friday at El Camino College. Ventura dropped the opener against Rio Hondo 3-2 before coming back to defeat the hosts, 4-1. VC's ytop two pairs of Autumn Rojelio and Kayla Murdoch, and Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson each won a pair of matches on the day.

Beach Volleyball Splits Pair in Long Beach
February 21, 2024The Pirates' beach volleyball team split a pair of matches Wednesday in Long Beach. Ventura defeated San Diego Miramar 3-2 before falling to the hosts 5-0 in a match that was much closer than the final score indicates. Kalya Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio won their match against the Jets before dropping their match against LBCC in three sets. Makena Schaumloeffel and Liz Schalde had the same results on the day.

VC Takes Two in Huntington Beach
February 15, 2024The Ventura College beach volleyball team returned to community college competition Thursday, winning a pair of matches in Huntington Beach. The Pirates (4-2) swept host Golden West 5-0 without dropping a set before defeating Cerritos 4-1. VC's No. 3 pair of Bryce Swain and Lily Hazzard gave up an average of 12.3 points per set in capturing a pair of victories.

Beach VB Battles Against NAIA Schools
February 09, 2024The Pirates' beach volleyball team stepped up the competition Friday, traveling to Carlsbad to take on four-year NAIA schools Life Pacific and St. Katherine. Autumn Rojelio and Kayla Murdoch won their No. 1 match against Life Pacific, as did Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson at No. 2 in VC's narrow 3-2 loss. VC also took three matches to a third and deciding set against St. Katherine before falling 5-0.

Beach VB, Men's Tennis Named State Scholar Teams
February 02, 2024The 2023 Ventura College beach volleyball and men's tennis teams have been named as California Community College Athletic Association State Scholar teams in a release by the 3C2A earlier this week. Beach volleyball earned its first state academic award while the men's tennis team earned its fourth state award. The awards are the VC Athletic Department's 42nd and 43rd State Scholar Team awards since the program's inception in 1997-98. Ventura has been awarded at least one state team academic award in each of the past 23 non-covid academic years.

Beach Volleyball Opens With Sweeping Victories
February 02, 2024The Pirates' beach volleyball team opened their 2024 campaign with a pair of 5-0 victories in Palm Desert. VC (2-0) defeated Fullerton without dropping a set before shutting out host College of the Desert, winning 10 of 11 sets against the Roadrunners. Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio, Bryce Swain and Lily Hazzard, and Gracie Piro and Liz Schalde all produced a pair of sweeps on the first day of the new season.

Pirate Student Athletes Prominent on Dean's Lists for 22-23
August 07, 2023Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2022-23, achieving an overall 3.29 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a 3.19 overall GPA in the spring semester. A total of 108 Pirates achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher, earning mention on the Dean's List in the fall 2022 term while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 53 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In spring 2023, 110 VC student athletes were named on the Dean's List with 45 posting perfect GPA's.

Pirate Beach Pairs Recognized by AVCA
June 14, 2023The VC beach volleyball team had three pairs recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with their Top Flight Awards announced last month. The Pirates' No. 1 pair of Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio Moreno was recognized along with the Nos. 2 and 3 duos of Ashley Johnson and Olivia Sletten and Averi Carter and Katey Mulville, respectively.

Murdoch, Calvin Earn Athlete of the Year Awards for 22-23
June 12, 2023Volleyball and beach volleyball standout Kayla Murdoch and baseball star Reiss Calvin have been named the 2022-23 Ventura College Athletics Athletes of the Year. Recognized at the VC Athletic Hall of Fame and Student Athlete recognition Banquet last month, the pair each had record-setting seasons in their respective sports to earn the Pirates' top athletic honor.

May 12, 2023On the heels of Thursday's state runner-up finish in the team tournament, the VC beach volleyball team send two duos to the Sweet 16 of the CCCAA Pairs Tournament in pool play Friday at West Valley College. The Pirates' Ashley Johnson and Olivia Sletten won their pool while Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio Moreno finished second in theirs to advance to Saturday's 16-team single-elimination bracket to determine the state champion.

May 11, 2023On a long day at West Valley College from a cool morning to warm afternoon sun, the Pirate beach volleyball team gave all they could until the shadows grew long Thursday, advancing to the CCCAA state championship match with a victory in pool play before falling in a heartbreakingly close 3-2 decision to Grossmont in the final. Ventura (22-3-1) ends the best season in program history with the assurance that they left everything on the courts competing in the final match on the final day of the season.

Beach Tops Pairs Tourney With Two of Top Three Teams
May 06, 2023On Friday, the VC beach volleyball team qualified three duos for next week's CCCAA State Pairs Tournament. Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio Moreno, Olivia Sletten and Ashley Johnson, and Averi Carter and Katey Mulville played Saturday at El Camino for seedings at state with excellent results. Sletten and Johnson earned the SoCal Runner-Up seed while Murdoch and Rojelio finished third. Meanwhile, Carter and Mulville ended the day with strong play despite their No. 8 finish in the draw.

The Pirate teams of Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio Moreno, Ashley Johnson and Olivia Sletten, and Averi Carter and Katey Mulville each won their two matches on Friday moving into SoCal's Elite Eight and Qualifying for next week's CCCAA State Pairs Tournament.

May 02, 2023The Ventura College beach volleyball team sailed into uncharted waiters Tuesday hosting the Southern California Playoffs at the Ventura Harbor Courts. The top-seeded Pirates advanced to the CCCAA State Championships for the first time in program history by sweeping past No. 9 Moorpark and No. 8 Long Beach. VC's No. 1 pair of Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio Moreno clinched both matches while the No. 4's Alba Romanos Gracia and Grace Williams closed out each sweep.

April 29, 2023The Ventura College beach volleyball team qualified three pairs for the Southern California Regionals Saturday as the Western State Conference Pairs Tournament concluded at the Ventura Harbor Courts. Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio Moreno finished the draw in second place while Ashley Johnson and Olivia Sletten claimed the bronze medal. Meanwhile Katey Mulville and Averi Carter won an elimination match to place sixth to punch their ticket to the post-season.

April 21, 2023The Ventura College beach volleyball team clinched its third Western State Conference championship in the eight-year history of the program, including six with with titles awarded, on Friday. The Pirates (19-2, 11-1) closed out the regular season in commanding fashion with two 5-0 sweeps over Moorpark and Santa Monica, respectively, in Santa Barbara. Bryce Swain and Kylie Ibbotson finished the regular season with a perfect 19-0 record, including a strong victory against Moorpark in the opener.

VC's No. 3 pair of Katey Mulville and Averi Carter, along with No. 5 Kylie Ibbotson and Bryce Swain each recorded two wins on the day.
