2016 Ventura College Volleyball Team News

  • Pirate Spikers Earn All-WSC Honors
    December 12, 2016
    VC sophomores Paris Dosch and Armonee Hunter led four Pirates on the All-Western State Conference North Division team as voted on by conference coaches last month. Dosch, a first-team All-WSC selection as a freshman, repeated the honor for the 2016 season, and Hunter earned second-team all-conference accolades for the second straight year.
  • VC Falls to Moorpark in Season Finale
    November 16, 2016
    A night that began honoring the efforts of seven sophomores ended in disappointment for the Ventura College volleyball team as they dropped the season finale 25-17, 25-16, 25-13 to visiting Moorpark Wednesday night at the Athletic Event Center. Paris Dosch had eight kills in her final game in the orange and black and Mikayla Spears handed out 13 assists. Kierra Joyner had 11 digs and Rachel Howery recorded 11 assists.
  • Spikers Fall at Home to Santa Barbara
    November 09, 2016
    The Ventura College volleyball team had a difficult time Wednesday, falling to state No. 3-ranked Santa Barbara in three sets, 25-16, 25-17, 25-14, at the Athletic Event Center. Paris Dosch had seven kills and four blocks for VC (9-15, 3-4) and Armonee had six kills. Makayla Spears and Rachel Howery recorded 14 and 12 assists, respectively, and Kierra Joyner had 24 digs.
  • Pirates Drop Gut-Wrenching Five-Set decision at Cuesta
    November 04, 2016
    The Pirate volleyball team traveled to San Luis Obispo for a matinee affair at Cuesta College Friday, coming away with a gut-wrenching five-set loss to the Cougars, 25-18, 23-25, 17-25, 25-14, 15-12. Jessica Gomez had 10 kills while Armonee Hunter recorded nine kills with four blocks. Brianna Finch had eight kills, four blocks and 12 digs for Ventura. Rachel Howery had 23 assists and six digs and Mikayla Spears handed out 22 helpers. Sariah Flores led the defensive effort with 24 digs.
  • Pirates Come From Behind to Close Out Hancock in Four
    November 02, 2016
    VC sophomore Paris Dosch had 16 kills, seven service aces and two blocks to lead the Pirates' volleyball team back from a one set deficit to a 3-1 win over Allan Hancock College Wednesday at the Athletic Event Center. The Pirates fell 25-22 in the first set before taking the final three, 25-18, 25-22, 25-10.
  • Ventura Falls in Three Sets at Moorpark
    October 28, 2016
    Following up perhaps their best outing of the year a week ago in Santa Barbara, the Pirate volleyball team fell to defeat in straight sets at Moorpark Friday night. The Raiders captured the match 25-10, 25-22, 25-16 at Raider Pavilion. Jessica Gomez had seven kills for VC (8-13, 2-2) and Rachel Howery and Mikayla Spears had 12 and 11 assists, respectively.
  • Pirate Volleyball Pushes No. 3 Santa Barbara in Loss
    October 21, 2016
    On the books it will go down as a loss. When one examines the details, however, it will become evident just how close the Pirate volleyball team cameto pulling off the upset of state No. 3-ranked Santa Barbara Friday evening, a margin of eight points over three sets. The Pirates had set points in each of the first two sets in their 26-24, 27-25, 25-21 loss to the Vaqueros Friday at The Sports Pavilion. Braxton Jessie had eight kills and 14 dogs to help lead VC (8-12, 2-1).
  • Solid Effort Propels Spikers to Win Over Cougars
    October 19, 2016
    Behind 18 kills from sophomore Paris Dosch, the Pirate volleyball team defeated visiting Cuesta College in four sets, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22, Wednesday night at the Athletic Event Center. Rachel Howery had 33 assists and Sariah Flores recorded 35 digs in the Pirates' second straight conference win, their fourth victory in their past five matches.
  • Volleyball Claims First Conference Match at Hancock
    October 14, 2016
    The Pirate volleyball team opened up Western State Conference play with a four-set victory at Allan Hancock College Friday in Santa Maria. VC (7-11, 1-0) was led by Paris Dosch and Brianna Finch with 11 and 10 digs, respectively, and by Sariah Flores with 32 digs.
  • VC Win Streak Ends at the Hands of Bakersfield
    October 12, 2016
    The Pirate volleyball team had a two-game winning streak halted by the visiting Bakersfield Renegades Wednesday night at the Athletic Event Center. VC (6-11) dropped their final non-conference match of the season in straight sets, 25-16, 25-14, 25-16. Armonee Hunter led Ventura with 10 kills each while Rachel Howery handed out 26 assists.
  • Spikers Win with Sweep at West LA
    October 07, 2016
    The Ventura College volleyball team traveled to Culver City Friday and came away with a 3-0 sweep of West Los Angeles. VC (6-10) won their second straight match, defeating the Wildcats 25-18, 25-12, 25-15. Armonee Hunter and Brianna Finch each led with 10 kills while Rachel Howery handed out 21 assists.
  • Pirates Sweep Away Frustrations, Glendale in Win
    September 30, 2016
    It has been a frustrating stretch for the Ventura College volleyball team. The Pirates had lost seven straight matches coming into Friday's contest against Glendale, but they had captured at least a set in five of those seven losses and twice lost in five sets. Those frustrations were taken out on the visiting Vaqueros as VC (5-10) was victorious in a 3-0 sweep, 25-16, 25-20, 25-19. Paris Dosch had 11 kills and Rachel Howery handed out 37 assists in the victory.
  • Volleyball Drops Four-Set Match to Visiting Canyons
    September 28, 2016
    The Pirate volleyball team jumped all over visiting Canyons in the first set Wednesday night, but could not maintain the momentum in the 3-1 loss to the Cougars at the Athletic Event Center. Braxton Jessie had 14 kills and nine digs for VC in the four-set match while Mikayla Spears handed out 41 assists.
  • Pirate Spikers Fall In Four at Long Beach
    September 21, 2016
    The Ventura College women's volleyball team traveled to Long Beach Wednesday night, and could not come away with a win over the Vikings, falling in four sets, 25-14, 25-15, 23-25, 25-17. Armonee Hunter led the Pirates with 12 kills while Mikayla Spears had 14 assists and six digs in the match.
  • Volleyball Extends Undefeated Mt. SAC to Five Before Loss
    September 16, 2016
    The Pirate volleyball team returned home Friday, dropping a heartbreaking five-set decisioon to undefeated Mt. San Antonio College 25-20, 13-25, 20-25, 25-17, 15-7. Braxton Jessie had nine kills and 12 digs for VC and Armonee Hunter recorded 10 kills and four blocks.
  • Pirate Spikers Fall Twice at Pasadena Quad
    September 14, 2016
    The VC volleyball team's tour of Southern California continued Wednesday at the Pasadena City Quad Tournament. The Pirates fell to Mt. San Jacinto in four sets in the opener before being swept by the host Lancers. Brianna Fitch had 22 kills to lead VC (4-7) offensively while Sariah Flores had 27 digs in the two matches.
  • Volleyball Drops a Heartbreaking 5-Set Match at Fullerton Quad
    September 10, 2016
    The Ventura College volleyball team continued its tour of Southern California in Orange County Saturday at the Fullerton College Quad. The Pirates lost a 5-set heartbreaker to the host Hornets in the first match of the day before falling in three to Golden West in the second. Paris Dosch had 26 kills on the day while Mikayla Spears contributed 40 assists in the two contests for VC (4-5).
  • VC Volleyball Takes 3-1 Victory from Cal Lu JV
    September 09, 2016
    Playing under the new lights inside the Athletic Event Center, the Pirate volleyball team won the final three sets to defeat Cal Lutheran's JV team 23-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-19 Friday night. Armonee Hunter had 14 kills, including the winner on match point to lead Ventura (4-3) in the win. Paris Dosch and Jessica Gomez each had 10 kills in the match wile Mikayla Spears handed out 27 assists.
  • Spikers Split Matches at Imperial Valley Tournament
    September 03, 2016
    Traveling to the far reaches of Southern California, the Pirate volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Imperial Valley Tournament Saturday. VC (3-3) lost to Arizona Western College 25-16, 25-17, 26-24 before rebounding to top host Imperial Valley College 25-16, 15-25, 25-17, 25-19. Armonee Hunter led Ventura with 26 kills in the two matches while Mikayla Spears handed out 51 assists on the day.
  • VC Spikers Fall Twice in San Diego
    September 02, 2016
    The road was not kind to the Ventura College volleyball team Friday. Perhaps weary from the long trip to San Diego, the Pirates dropped a pair of road matches at Grossmont and San Diego Mesa. VC (2-2) was swept by the Griffins before battling back to fall 3-1 in a close match at Mesa. Braxton Jessie had 14 kills and 21 digs in the two contests in her hometown. Rachel Howery handed out 35 assists in the two matches.
  • Pirate Volleyball Opens With Quad Sweep
    August 26, 2016
    Coming off of consecutive playoff appearances, the Ventura College volleyball team comes into 2016 with high expectations of taking the next step. They got off on the right foot Friday, sweeping through the VC Kickoff Quad at the Athletic Event Center, defeating Los Angeles Trade Tech and Santa Monica by identical 3-0 scores.
