Pirate Student Athletes Prominent on Dean's Lists for 22-23
August 07, 2023Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2022-23, achieving an overall 3.29 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a 3.19 overall GPA in the spring semester. A total of 108 Pirates achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher, earning mention on the Dean's List in the fall 2022 term while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 53 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In spring 2023, 110 VC student athletes were named on the Dean's List with 45 posting perfect GPA's. -
Women's Tennis Named ITA All-Academic
July 27, 2023The VC women's tennis team earned All-Academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 2023 season. Their 3.56 overall grade point average qualified them to be one of 23 collegiate teams nationally, one of six California community college programs, to make the list. The Pirates also had seven players named Scholar Athletes by the national coaches' association.

Leib and Elaerts Named ITA All-Americans
June 14, 2023Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts of the VC women's tennis team have been named CCCAA All-Americans by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The pair is being honored following their run to the state quarterfinal run at The Ojai Tournament to close the 2023 season.

Women's Tennis Has Four Named All-WSC
May 17, 2023The VC women's tennis team had four players named to the All-Western State Conference team following the 2023 regular season. Nell Elaerts, Alexis Schmidt and Elizabeth Nguyen earned the honors in both singles and doubles while Talia Lieb earned an All-WSC nod in doubles play.

April 28, 2023VC freshmen Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts are still alive in the CCCAA State Doubles Championships at The Ojai Tournament. The Pirates' No. 1 duo put together a pair of wins, including an upset of Northern California's No. 2-seeded team to advance to the state quarterfinals to be played Saturday at the Ojai Athletic Club.

Lieb and Elaerts Advance in The Ojai in Singles and Doubles
April 27, 2023Ventura's Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts advanced in the CCCAA State Singles and Doubles Championships in both draws on Thursday in The Ojai Tournament. The pair posted a victory in the Round of 64 in doubles play after each moved forward with wins in the Round of 64 in singles.

Women's Tennis Puts Up Fight in Loss
April 11, 2023The shorthanded VC women's tennis team put up a solid fight at Orange Coast Tuesday, but fell 5-0 to the Southern California Regional's top seed. Ventura, the No. 7-seed, played without two regular players in their first playoff appearance since 2012. Nell Elaerts came back from a 4-0 deficit in No. 1 singles and dropped her first set 6-4 when OCC clinched the match while Alexis Schmidt was ahead early playing up at No. 2 before trailing 5-4 when play ended.

Women's Tennis Headed to the Playoffs
April 10, 2023The VC women's tennis team has qualified for the Southern California Regional Playoffs which begin Tuesday April 11. Ventura (6-7) is he No. 7 seed in the draw and will travel to No. 1 Orange Coast in Costa Mesa Tuesday. This will be the Pirates' first playoff appearance since the 2012 season.

April 04, 2023VC's top doubles pair of Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts claimed second place in the Western State Conference championships completed Tuesday at the VC Tennis Center. The duo fell to the top-seeded team from LA Mission in the final match of the four-day event.

Lieb & Elaerts Advance to WSC Title Match
April 01, 2023Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts continued their strong play Saturday, advancing to the championship match in the Western State Conference doubles tournament with a semifinal win. Meanwhile Belladora Moga and Laura Rubio qualified for state with a victory in the backdraw. In singles play, Lieb moved into the semifinals before bowing out of the draw and Elaerts won her backdraw match to qualify for state.

Lieb & Elaerts Move to Doubles Semi's at WSC
March 31, 2023Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts won their doubles quarterfinal Friday at the Western State Conference Championships while Lieb also posted a pair of love, love wins in the singles draw to move to the quarterfinals Friday at the VC Tennis Center. Alexis Schmidt and Elizabeth Nguyen rebounded from a narrow loss in the doubles Round f 16 to win their match in the backdraw to qualify for state in late April at The Ojai.

March 30, 2023The VC women's tennis team remained in play Thursday at the Western State Conference Singles and Doubles Championships with the duos of Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts and Alexis Schmidt and Elizabeth Nguyen recirdunbg wins to advance in doubles play. Meanwhile, Belladora Moga, Schmidt, Lieb, Elaerts and Laura Rubio are still alive in the dingles draw.

Pirates Win Regular Season Finale
March 28, 2023The VC women's tennis team won their regular season finale 8-1 at Santa Monica on Tuesday. Marcie McTugue and Dee Emami collectively gave up one game in capturing their doubled match and their individual singles matches. Nell Elaerts, Belladora Moga and Laura Rubio were also double winners against the Corsairs.

Ventura Drops Non-Conference Match at OCC
March 24, 2023The VC women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to Orange Coast College Friday in Costa Mesa. Talia Lieb was a double-winner for the Pirates of VC, teaming up with Nell Elaerts to win in No. 1 doubles before defeating her Pirate opponent from OCC in No. 1 singles.

VC Women's Tennis Sweeps Antelope Valley
March 23, 2023The Ventura College women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 sweep over Antelope Valley Thursday at the VC Tennis Center. After three easy victories in doubles, play, Belladora Maga clinched the win in No. 4 singles and Laura Rubio closed out the sweep with a hard fought triumph in the No. 6 match.

March 17, 2023The VC women's Tennis team got off to a slow start Friday and couldn't make the comeback, falling 6-3 to Bakersfield at the VC Tennis Center. Talia Leib, Nell Elaerts and Elizabeth Nguyen all won singles matches in attempt to bring the Pirates (4-6, 4-6) back from a 3-0 deficit after doubles play.

March 16, 2023The Pirates' women's tennis team returned from a week of rainouts Thursday, dropping a 6-3 decision at Los Angles Mission College in Sylmar. Alexis Schmidt and Elizabeth Nguyen were both double winners for VC (4-5, 4-5) for their three points in the match.

Strong Singles Play Sends Pirates to Victory
March 09, 2023The Pirates' women's tennis team won five of six singles matches Thursday, narrowly dropping the sixth, to come from behind to defeat Canyons at the VC Tennis Center. Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts were each double-winners, winning their No. 1 doubles match and prevailing in Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Elizabeth Nguyen clinched the victory for Ventura (4-4, 4-4) with her win in No. 5 singles.

March 07, 2023The Pirates' women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision at conference leading Glendale on Tuesday afternoon. Alexis Schmidt and Marcie McTigue won in No. 2 doubles for the lone point for the Pirates (3-4, 3-4) while Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts dropped a close decision in No. 1 doubles and each played strong in singles.

Pirates Love Win Over Santa Monica
February 21, 2023The VC women's tennis team claimed an 8-1 victory over Santa Monica Tuesday at the VC Tennis Center. The Pirates swept two doubles matches and four singles matches without giving up a game in easily defeating the Corsairs. Alexis Schmidt, Belladora Moga and Elizabeth Nguyen all were double winners for Ventura (3-3), all holding their opponents to "love" on the scoreboard.

February 16, 2023The VC women's tennis team claimed a hard-fought 5-4 victory over visiting Los Angeles Mission Thursday. The doubles team of Alexis Schmidt and Elizabeth Nguyen won a marathon match in No. 2 doubles and Talia Lieb won her No. 1 singles match in three sets to clinch the victory for Ventura (2-3, 2-3).

February 14, 2023The VC women's tennis team dropped a contest at Bakersfield Tuesday, 6-3. The Pirates' Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles players, Talia Lieb. Nell Elaerts and Alexis Schmidt all won their matches, but Ventura (1-3, 1-3) could not find any other points during the day.

February 09, 2023The Ventura College women's tennis team fell in a closely-fought 5-4 decision Thursday against College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita. Talia Leib and Nell Elaerts won in No. 1 doubles, then each won their singles matches and Marcia McTugue also won a tight No. 6 singles match for the Pirates' four points.

Pirate Claim First Win of Season
February 07, 2023The VC women's tennis team claimed their first victory of the year on Tuesday, defeating Glendale 5-4 at the VC Tennis Center. Talia Lieb and Elizabeth Nguyen each were double winners to lead Ventura (1-1, 1-1). Lieb teamed up with Nell Elaerts to win the No. 1 doubles match before prevailing in No. 1 singles. Nguyen, meanwhile, won in No. 2 doubles with Alexis Schmidt, then captured her No. 5 singles contest.

Women's Tennis Drops Season Opener in Close Decision
January 31, 2023The Pirates' women's tennis team played shorthanded Tuesday in their season opener, yielding two points by default to host Antelope Valley, but still almost managed victory, falling 5-4 to the Marauders. Talia Leib and Alexis Schmidt won their Pirate debut at No. 1 doubles, then both won in Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Belladora Moga also won her first VC match in No. 3 singles.
