  • McClain, De Marco on Women's Tennis All-WSC Team
    May 31, 2018
    Ventura College sophomores Tricia McClain and Allie De Marco were named 2018 women's tennis All-Western State Conference in a ceremony held last month at the VC Tennis Center. McClain earned the first team nod at the No. 6 singles position while De Marco was named second-team All-WSC at No. 3 singles.
  • Powell Falls in Round of 32 at State Championships
    April 27, 2018
    Sophomore Alyssa Powell was the last person standing for the Ventura College women's tennis team. Playing in the Round of 32 in the CCCAA State Singles Championships at The Ojai, Powell was eliminated from the draw Friday morning by the No. 4 seed from College of the Desert, 6-1, 6-0. Her setback closed the 2018 season for the Pirates' women's tennis team.
  • Women's Tennis Opens State Play at The Ojai
    April 26, 2018
    Alyssa Powell came from behind in a three-set thriller to advance to day two of the CCCAA State Singles Tournament at The Ojai in play at the VC Tennis Center Thursday. Lea Meschke also won her first match of the day before falling in the round of 32, and the doubles pair of Allie De Marco and Powell also won their first match at state before bowing out.
  • Women's Tennis Line-Up at The Ojai Set
    April 13, 2018
    The Pirates' women's tennis team's line-up for the CCCAA State Singles and Doubles Championships at The Ojai Tournament is set. After three days of exciting action at the Western State Conference Championships, Lea Meschke leads three Pirates into the penultimate event of the season while VC's No. 1 doubles team of Alyssa Powell and Allie De marco lead three Pirates duos into state beginning Thursday April 26.
  • Ventura Qualifies Three in Singles, Three in Doubles for Ojai
    April 07, 2018
    The VC women's tennis team qualified three singles players for the CCCAA State Championships with one more still in the running, and they qualified three doubles teams for The Ojai in play at the Western State Conference Championships Saturday at the VC Tennis Center. Lea Meschke, Alyssa Powell and Allie De Marco all punched their tickets to state, with Jule Lauinger still in the hunt in singles, while the duos of Powell and Demarco, Meschke and Lauinger, and Keressa Garland and Tricia McClain all qualified in doubles.
  • Pirate Women Continue Play at WSC Championships

    The Ventura College women's tennis team fared well on the first day of the Western State Conference Singles and Doubles Championships Friday. They had four players advance to the round of 16 in single splay at Ventura's Camino Real Park while two doubles teams advanced to the quarterfinals. No. 11-seed Allie De Marco did not drop a game in her love and love win in singles while No. 5-seed De Marco and Alyssa Powell had a strong opener to move into the quarters in doubles.
  • Pirate Tennis Closes Regular Season With Victoy

    The visiting Santa Monica Corsairs came to the VC Tennis Center shorthanded. That did not matter to the Pirates' women's tennis team, however, as they took five of the six matches played, claiming the regular season finale 8-1. Keressa Garland highlighted the match with a marathon, three-hour 4-6, 6-4, 14-12 victory at No. 4 singles. The victory puts Ventura (11-8, 9-5) tied for third place in the eight-team Western State Conference standings.
  • VC Drops Close Contest in Bakersfield
    March 27, 2018
    The VC women's tennis team traveled over the Grapevine Tuesday, only to return following a heartbreaking 5-4 defeat to the Renegades. Tricia McClain was Ventura's only double winner, prevailing in No. 6 singles and winning in No. 3 doubles with partner Keressa Garland. Allie De Marco won in No. 3 singles while Lea Meschke and Jule Lauinger earned a point in No.2 doubles.
  • Ventura Women Bounce Past Canyons
    March 26, 2018
    The Ventura College women's tennis team got their spring break off to a good start Monday with a 7-2 victory at College of the Canyons in a make-up of a March 13 rain out. Lea Meschke led four double winners for the Pirates (10-7, 6-4) with a love and love victory in No. 1 singles and an 8-1 triumph with Allie De Marco in No. 1 doubles. De Marco was also a double-winner with a victory in No. 2 singles.
  • Pirate Tennis Shuts Out Marauders in the Desert

    The VC women's tennis team shut out host Antelope Valley 9-0 Tuesday afternoon in Lancaster. Alyssa Powell, Allie De Marco and Keressa Garland all had love, love matches in singles while Garland and Tricia McClain did not drop a game in doubles for the Pirates (9-7, 7-4).

    On a sunny and cool spring day, the Pirates' women's tennis team swept past a shorthanded Victor Valley team 9-0 Thursday at the VC Tennis Center. Ventura (8-7, 6-4) was able to play eight different players, four in singles and four in doubles, with all coming away with victories against the visiting Rams.

    The VC women's tennis team ran into a buzzsaw Friday, falling to host Cerritos College 9-0. The doubles teams of Alyssa Powell and Allie De Marco (No. 1), and Lea Meschke and Jule Lauinger (No. 2) each took a game in their respective match, while Meschke (No. 1) and Powell (No. 2), avoided shutouts in singles.
  • Pirate Playoff Hopes Take Hit Against Santa Barbara

    The Ventura College women's tennis team was tied 3-3 with Santa Barbara coming out of singles play, but faded down the stretch in the close 6-3 defeat to the Vaqueros at the VC Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon. The loss puts the Pirates firmly in third place in the Western State Conference behind SBCC and front-runner Glendale, taking a hit to the team's playoff hopes. Alyssa Powell, Allie De Marco and Tricia McClain all recorded singles wins for VC (7-6, 5-4).
  • Pirate Loss at Glendale Closer than Final Score Indicates

    At times, team scores in tennis can be deceiving. Case in point is Ventura's 8-1 loss at Glendale on Tuesday. Despite the lopsided appearance of the final count, the match was much closer. Tricia McClain claimed a 7-5, 6-2 win in no. 6 singles, while Lea Meschke (No. 1) and Alyssa Powell (no. 2) dropped close three-set contests in singles. Additionally, Powell and Allie De Marco dropped an 8-6 decision in No. 1 doubles for VC (7-5, 5-3).
  • Women's Tennis Claims Third in WSC With Win
    February 27, 2018
    The Pirates' women's tennis team staked their claim solidly in the upper half of the Western State Conference Tuesday with a 6-3 victory over visiting Bakersfield at the VC Tennis Center. Allie De Marco and Tricia McClain both posted love and love victories at Nos. 3 and 6 singles, respectively, and the Pirates also had two 8-0 wins in doubles play. With the victory, the Pirates (7-4, 5-2) claimed third place in the eight-team conference standings through the first round of conference play.
  • Shorthanded Pirates Fall to Grossmont
    February 24, 2018
    Playing without three of their regular players, the VC women's tennis team fell to visiting Grossmont College 7-2 Saturday at the VC Tennis Center. Alyssa Powell was leading in her No. 2 singles match 2-1 when her opponent was unable to finish due to a knee injury. Then, in doubles, Powell and Lea Meschke won in the No. 1 slot, 8-0 for the second point for VC (6-4, 4-2).
  • Ventura Takes Down Corsairs in Women's Tennis, 6-3

    The Pirates' women's tennis team traveled down the PCH Thursday, bringing a 6-3 decision home from Santa Monica in Western State Conference action. Allie De Marco and Tricia McClain led the Pirates (6-3, 4-2) with love and love victories in Nos. 3 and 5 singles, respectively. De Marco and Alyssa Powell also posted a shutout 8-0 win in No. 1 doubles.
  • Ventura Sweeps Past Marauders in Women's Tennis

    On a cold and windy day at the VC Tennis Center, the Pirates' women's tennis team swept past visiting Antelope valley 9-0 in a Western State Conference contest on Tuesday. Alyssa Powell and Allie De Marco each recorded love and love victories at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Later, the two also blanked their opponents in No. 1 doubles, and Lea Meschke and Jule Lauinger won their No. 2 doubles match, 8-0.

    The Ventura College women's tennis team closed out the VCNorth/South Challenge with a 6-3 loss to Chabot College Saturday at the VC Tennis Center. Lea Meschke and Jule Lauinger earned a victory i their No. 2 doubles match while Alyssa Powell and Allie De Marco each had wins in their Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively for the Pirates (4-3, 2-1).
  • Women's Tennis Takes Two in North/South Challenge
    February 16, 2018
    The VC women's tennis team claimed two victories Friday on the first day of the VC North/South Challenge. The Pirates (4-2, 2-2) defeated College of the Sequoias 6-3 in the morning match before besting Fresno City College 5-4 in the evening contest. The doubles team of Alyssa Powell and Allie De Marco won two matches on the day and the two also each won their only singles competition.

    The Ventura College women's tennis team dominated visiting College o fthe Canyons Tuesday, defeating the Cougars 9-0 in action at the VC Tennis center. Keressa Garland blanked her opponent at No. 5 singles, winning love and love, and she teamed up with Tricia McClain to win in No. 3 doubles, 8-2. Allie De Marco was victorious at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1, while Lea Meschke prevailed at No. 1 singles, love and three.

    The VC women's tennis team claimed their first victory of the young season with a 6-3 triumph over visiting Cypress College Friday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center. The Pirates (1-2, 0-2) won three of four singles matches, including a love and love win by Alyssa Powell at No. 2, a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 by Allie De Marco, and a love and one decision at No. 4 by Tricia McClain.
  • Women's Tennis Falls 5-4 in Heart Breaker

    The Ventura College women's tennis team lost a 4-3 heart breaker Thursday afternoon at Santa Barbara's Pershing Park. Alyssa Powell won in No. 2 singles, and Allie De Marco won in No. 3 singles before the duo combined to take the No. 1 doubles match. Tricia McClain recorded the other point for the Pirates (0-2, 0-2) with a win at No. 6 singles.
  • Women's Tennis Falls in Season Opener
    February 06, 2018
    The VC women's tennis team fell 9-0 to Glendale College in their season opener Tuesday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center. Allie DeMarco won five games in her outing, falling 6-2, 6-3 in No. 3 singles, while Alyssa Powell also recorded four winning games at No. 2 singles, falling 6-4, 6-1. All three Pirate doubles teams lost by scores of 8-2.
