Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2021-22, achieving an overall 3.26 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a solid 3.19 overall GPA in the spring. A total of 123 Pirates earned Dean's List honors in the fall of 2021 with a 3.5 GPA or better while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 51 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In the spring, 112 VC student athletes were featured on the Dean's List with 41 posting perfect GPA's.
The VC golf team posted season-best round in the afternoon with a 2-over 362, but it was not enough to overcome a sluggish morning round as the Pirates finished sixth at the CCCAA State Championships at Soboba Springs Golf Course in San Jacinto Monday. Ventura posted a 383-362, 745 in the final event of he season. Individually, Evan Colborn earned All-State honors with a 1-under par 74-69, 143 to finish in a tie for sixth place, earning his All-State nod in a card off. Steen Zeman shot a 73-70, 143 to also tie for sixth place overall.
The Pirate golf team shot a 367-375, 742 Monday at Ventura's Olivas Links Golf Course Monday to place fourth at the Southern California regional Championships, qualifying as a team for the CCCAA State Championships next week. Nicholas Burns fired a 4-under 67-73, 240 to finish second overall while Steen Zeman was tied for fourth with a 1-under 74-69, 243. Both were named to the All-Southern California Team.
Ventura's Steen Zeman shot a 2-under par 70-72, 142 Monday at the Western State Conference Championships at Alisal River Golf Course in Solvang to claim individual medalist honors by three strokes, locking up the Most Valuable Player honors for the season. The Pirate team, meanwhile, posted a 369-367, 736 to wrap up the runner-up position in the WSC standings to advance to the SoCal Regionals in two weeks.
The Pirate golf team finished a strong second place again on Monday, carding a team score of 374 at the Western State Conference No. 7 event at Santa Maria Country Club hosted by Allan Hancock College. Steen Zeman posted a 3-under 69 to claim medalist honors, his eighth Top-10 finish in nine WSC matches this season. Nicholas Burns, meanwhile tied for second with a 1-under 71.
The Ventura College golf team finished in the runner up position in the Western State Conference No. 9 event and in the Bakersfield Invitational held simultaneously Monday at the Bakersfield Country Club. Steen Zeman paced Ventura with a 1-under par 71 to place second in both events and Nicholas Burns turned in a 4-over 76. The Pirates posted a team score of 393 to finish behind Canyons (380) and ahead of Glendale (395).
The Ventura College golf team turned in its best performance in eight years, carding a 5-over 365 as a team Monday to win the Western State Conference No. 8 match at San Dimas Golf Club hosted by Citrus College. Nicholas Burns was the individual medalist with a strong round of 3-under 69. Steen Zeman was tied for second a stroke back and Zack Garboski tied for 11th with a 1-over 73 as the Pirates posted their first team win in over three years.
The VC golf team placed third in the Western State Conference No. 6 match and eighth in the Southern California Preview played simultaneously Monday at the Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura. Pirate Evan Colborn was the individual medalist with an incredible 5-under 67 on the par-72 course, besting the WSC field by three strokes and winning the SoCal Preview by a single stroke.. Nicholas Burns tied for fifth in the WSC match for Ventura.
Under ideal scoring conditions at Antelope Valley Country Club in Palmdale, the Pirate golf team tied a season best with a team score of 385 to finish in the runner-up spot at the Western State Conference No. 5 match hosted by Antelope Valley College on Monday. VC had four golfers in the top 11 places, with ties, led by 3-over par 75 scores by Steen Zeman and Nicholas Burns.
The Ventura College golf team finished third Oakmont Country Club in Glendale at the Western State Conference No. 4 match hosted by Glendale College. The Pirates carded a team score of 410 with Steen Zeman tied for third overall with a 6-over par 78 leading the way. VC's score was eight strokes off the pace of Canyons' 402, and four strokes behind second place Santa Barbara.
Evan Colborn shot an even-par 72 on Monday to tie for the top spot in the Riverside Invitational at Victoria Country Club, The Pirates carded a team total of 388, good for fourth place among the 16 teams assembled in the competitive field. Zack Garboski and Jonas Slattum also had solid rounds for Ventura.

Evan Colburn led the way with a 1-over 73, good for a tie for second overall. Nick Burns and Steen Zeman each carded a 3-over 75 for the Pirates.
The Pirate golf team finished second with a season-best score of 391 Monday at the Western State Conference No. 2 match hosted by Ventrua at the River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard. Nick Burns carded the low score for VC with a 2-over 74, including a red-ht 32 on the back nine, good for a tie for fifth place overall. Steen Zeman shot 4-over 76 and all six Pirates recorded scores of 83 or better on the day.
The VC golf team came in a close fourth on Monday in their Western State Conference opener hosted by College of the Canyons at Valencia Country Club. Steen Zeman shot a 1-over 73 to claim second place overall and Zack Garboski finished tied for 12th with an 82. Ventura carded a team score of 424, one stroke behind third-place Glendale. Canyons won the event with a 385 and Santa Barbara was a distant second with a score of 415.
The Ventura College golf team teed off the 2022 season Sunday and Monday at the 36-hole Point Conception Open at La Purisma Golf Club in Lompoc Sunday and Monday. The Pirates posted team scores of 424 and 402 for a final mark of 826, good for ninth in the 15-team event. Steen Zeman shot a 79-78, 151 for VC to place in a tie for 15th place overall out of 81 golfers who posted a two-round score.
