Pirate XC Competes at StateNovember 23, 2013On a clear crisp morning at Fresno's Woodward Park, the VC women's cross country team and the lone Pirate men's entry, Luis Cruz, ran at the 37th annual California State Cross Country Championships Saturday. Led by sophomore Sabrina Sewell, the Pirate women finished 23rd in the team standings while Cruz came in 181st of the 203 men's runners.

Women's XC, Cruz AdvanceNovember 08, 2013As she had done all season long, sophomore Sabrina Sewell paced the VC women’s cross country team to an at-large state berth Friday at the CCCAA Southern California Regionals in Valencia. Sewell placed 17th overall to lead the Pirates with a personal record 5k time of 19:35. Meanwhile, the Ventura men placed 20th of 28 teams, missing a state berth as a team, but Luis Cruz took 1:45 off of his SoCal Preview time to place 88th and receive an individual bid to the state meet in Fresno is two weeks.

VC Harriers Qualify for SoCalsOctober 25, 2013Running on a perfect day for cross country, the Ventura College men's and women's cross country teams qualified for the 2013 Southern California Regionals, gateway to the CCCAA State Championships, at the Western State Conference Championships at Oxnard College Thursday afternoon. Sabrina Sewell led the VC women, finishing in eight place overall, a the Pirates placed seventh of the 14 participating teams. Meanwhile, Edwin Herrera paced the Pirate men with his 21st place finish, leading Ventura to a team finish of a tie for sixth of the 12 participating schools.

Women 5th, Men 8th at PreviewOctober 04, 2013The Ventura College men's and women's cross country teams played host at Arroyo Verde Park for the 2013 Western State Conference Preview, giving a look ahead at the next year's conference championship course. With Santa Ana winds literally breaking off limbs and toppling trees, the Pirates performed well on their home course with the women placing fifth of 14 teams and the men finishing eighth of 12 participating teams. Sabrina Sewell led VC with her third place finish and a personal course record of 21:54 and Ed Herrera led the Pirate men in 18th place.

Harriers Both Finish 3rd at BCSeptember 27, 2013The Pirates' men's and women's cross country teams traveled to the Central Valley for the annual Bakersfield Cross Country Invitational held at Kern Soccer Park on Friday with both teams coming away with third place finishes and encouraging performances. Edwin Herrera ran in the No. 1 spot for the first time this season for the men, placing 12th overall while Sabrina Sewell finished fourth overall in her customary No. 1 spot for the VC women.

VC Closer to State QualificationSeptember 13, 2013The Pirates' men's and women's cross country teams participated in the SoCal Preview Friday morning hosted by College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita. The races previewed the regional finals to be held on November 8 on the same course where 14 men's and 14 women's team will qualify for state. Friday the Ventura women positioned themselves close placing 16th as a team while the Pirate men left some work for themselves placing 23rd.

XC Has Mixed Results at FresnoSeptember 07, 2013The Ventura College men's and women’s cross country teams made their annual sojourn to Woodward Park for the Fresno Invitational hosted by Fresno City College on Saturday. The teams left with mixed results with the Pirate women finishing eighth of 18 teams while the men struggled to a 15th place team finish. Sophomore Sabrina Sewell led the Pirate charge, finishing 21st individually while freshman Anthony Rivas was a bright spot for the men, finishing in 68th place to lead the team.

Pirate Harriers Open SeasonAugust 30, 2013The Pirate men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2013 season with the annual Ventura Invitational at Arroyo Verde Park Friday afternoon. Despite not running a full team to qualify for team placing, the Pirate women showed promise while the VC men struggled on the rugged course on a warm late summer day. Sophomore Sabrina Sewell placed second, completing the 5k course in 22:09.
