VC volleyball outside hitter Kayla Murdoch has been named as a first team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association for the second consecutive year. She is one of 45 players from 39 schools who made the three, 15-member All-America teams for the 2023 season. The players chosen represent all sections of Two-Year College women's volleyball: NJCAA Division I, II, and III, the 3C2A, and the NWAC.
Murdoch, a first team All-American and a first team All-Western State Conference selection as a freshman, was even better in her sophomore season in earning the WSC Player of the Year Award. The Thousand Oaks High School product hit .283 at the net with 375 kills and a 4.87 kills per set average over 24 matches played this season. She also totaled 35 blocks, nine solo, and was second on the team with 180 digs. She also recorded 31 service aces and averaged 5.6 points per set overall.
Murdoch was also named first team All-State for her performance in 2023, her second straight all-state honor.
Ventura was 21-4 on the year with an 8-2 mark in WSC North play. The Pirates won a share of the WSC North championship for the third year in a row and the fourth time in the past five seasons and advanced to the 3C2A State Tournament for the first time since 2000.
For her career, Murdoch set single-season and career records for total kills and was also listed among state leaders in kills per set and points per set both of her seasons. She helped lead VC to a combined 44-6 record over her two years, the second-best two-year span in program history.
Murdoch will be transferring to NCAA Division I Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to play both indoor and beach volleyball for the Mustangs.
