Continuing to play without its two top setters, the Pirate volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday to conclude the Mesa College Invitational in San Diego. Ventura (6-2) swept Cerro Coso 25-8, 25-10, 25-21 before falling in a close sweep to rival Moorpark 25-21, 25-20, 26-24. Brittney Mukhar had two more outstanding all-around performances for VC with 27 assists and 17 kills to go along with three aces, two digs and two blocks in the two contests.
Ventura 3, Cerro Coso 0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-21)
The Pirates swept the Coyotes in the first match of the day. Mukhar had nine kills, 18 assists and a pair of aces to lead the Pirates while Armonee Hunter put away eight kills. Tori Hiott recorded six kills and 17 assists and Paris Dosch had six kills, an ace and two blocks. Cassandra Lacanilao had 13 digs in the win for VC.
Ventura 0, Moorpark 3 (25-21, 25-20, 26-24)
Hiott had six kills, 12 assists, three digs and four aces against the Raiders while Mukhar contributed eight kills and nine assists. Dosch put away six kills and Lacanilao had 11 digs.
Ventura travels to Pasadena on Wednesday Sept. 16 before hosting Santa Monica and Fullerton in the VC Pirate Classic Quad on Friday Sept. 18.
