VC Men First, Women Second at WSC Swim No. 2

Kaitlyn Peters won the 50-yard freestyle and was the anchor of the winning 200-yard medley relay team Friday at the WSC No. 2 meet at Los Angeles Pierce. The VC women were second of six teams and the Pirate men came in first of four teams at the event.

The Pirates' men's swim team finished first and the women second at Friday's Western State Conference Swim Meet No. 2 at Los Angeles Pierce in Woodland Hills. David Kromka had two firsts for the men in the 1m and 3m diving competitions while Jack Pickett earned two top finishes in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events. Thomas Bunker also had two firsts on the day in the 1000 and 500-yard freestyle.  Brittany Oliver and Kaitlyn Peters claimed golds for the women in the 1000 and 50-yard freestyle races, respectively.

In the diving competition earlier in the day at Los Angeles Valley College, Kromka earned two first place finished, and Deonn Crilly came in second in both the 1m and 3m competitions, getting the day off to a great start.

Pickett was first in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 21.90 and also won the 100-yard free in 47.96. Bunker prevailed in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:44.67 and finished first in the 500-yard free in 5:06.18. Kaleb Rodarte won the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:37.33 and Derek Krzyski came in with the fastest time in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:15.95. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Bunker, Pickett, Krzyski and Kevin Smallwood also came in tops with a mark of 3:23.44.

The men's 400-yard medley relay was second with Brian Hicks, Roger Escalante, Mitchell Caldwell and Smallwood. Rodarte also claimed silver in the 200-yard freestyle and Krzyski was second in the 50-yard free. Smallwood and Rodarte were second and third in the 200-yard breast stroke while Brian Hicks and Liam Hicks came in second and third in the 200-yard backstroke.

For the VC women, Oliver won the 1000-yard free with a time of 11:52.03 and Peters won the 50-yard free with a mark of 25.61. The 200-yard medley relay team of Alejendra MedinaMaria Petraitis, Paige Treloar-Ballard and Peters won in a time of 1:57.85. Petraitis was runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley and Medina finished second in the 100-yard butterfly. Treloar-Ballard was second in the 100-yard freestyle and Kaylene Lehr came in second in the 100-yard breast stroke. Oliver was third in the 500-yard freestyle and Maeve Flynn was third in the 100-yard butterfly.

Ventura will return to the pool on Friday march 31 in the final WSC meet of the season at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria.
