Pirate swimmer Mitchell Ongstad has added another award to his list of accolades for his performance in the 2015 season. On Sunday he was named the Ventura County Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year at the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame Banquet on Sunday.
Ongstad, a sophomore who prepped at Royal High School in Simi Valley, was named the state's Co-Swimmer of the Year following two individual golds and a silver in the CCCAA State Championships. He also led four VC relay teams to high finishes at the state meet, as the VC men finished sixth overall in the state.
Ongstad was also named the WSC Male Swimmer of the Year leading Ventura to the program's 12th WSC title in the past 13 years, its 13th championship overall.
His award on Sunday caps a lengthy post-season afterglow in which he was also awarded the Ventura College Male Athlete of the Year Award.
Ongstad has signed with NCAA Division I University of the Pacific in Stockton to swim for the Tigers next year.
