On the strength of their first Western State Conference North Division title in 13 years, the Ventura College baseball team has received the No. 5 seed in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs and will be hosting a playoff series at Pirate Park for the first time ever. Ventura will host No. 12 Long Beach City College in a best-of-three set beginning at 2:00 pm Friday May 3. Game 2 with the Vikings will be at 11:00 am on Saturday May 4, with Game 3, if necessary, following Game 2.
Ventura (25-15) won 13 of their final 17 games during the season, including a 9-3 record over that span in conference play, to claim a share of the WSC North championship for the first time since 2006. It was the program's second crown in the past 30 years. This is also Ventura's first regional appearance since 2009.
Long Beach (26-14) had a conference mark of 17-5, finishing in a first place tie with No. 2 El Camino in the South Coast Conference South Division. The Vikings lost their final regular season game at home against Compton to fall into the tie, but they were 18-4 over their final 22 games of the season.
Admission for this week's CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoff, set by the state, is $12.00 for general admission and $8.00 for identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children less than 12 years of age. No conference, staff, or parent booster passes will be honored.
