VC Athletics 13th in California in NATYCAA CupAugust 12, 2024The Ventura College Athletic Department claimed its 14th Top-13 finish in 19 years, placing 13th in California in the 2023-24 all-sports National Association of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup standings. Pirate Athletics totaled 106 points overall, besting its 105.5 points earned in 2022-23 that placed 12th. Ventura was also 17th for the second straight year in the Daktronics Cup Standings with two-years schools from California, Oregon and Washington.

VC Lists 70 transfers to 4-Year SchoolsAugust 01, 2024The Ventura College Athletic Department is proud to announce the transfer of 71 student athletes to four-year schools following their time with the Pirates. 48 of those transfers plan to continue their sport with 34 earning athletic scholarships. The VC class of 2024 will transfer to 48 different schools in 19 different states across the country. Additionally, 17 of the Pirate alumni have earned academic scholarships at their new schools.

Two Pirate Pairs Named Top Flight by AVCAMay 22, 2024The Pirate beach volleyball team has two pairs who have earned the Top Flight Award presented by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio were honored in Flight 1 while Kylie Ibbotson and Alba Romanos Gracia earned the award in Flight 2. The pairs were among six community college level duos selected for the national award.

Rojelio & Swain, Ibbotson & Romanos Gracia 1st Team All-WSCMay 21, 2024The Pirate beach volleyball pairs of Autumn Rojelio and Bryce Swain, along with Kylie Ibbotson and Alba Romanos Gracia each were named first team All-Western State Conference for the 2024 season. Rojelio and Swain were the runners up on the WSC Pairs Tournament in April while Ibbotson and Romanos Gracia placed sixth in the bracket play in Santa Monica.

Pirate Pairs Finish 5th and 9th at State TournamentMay 11, 2024The VC beach volleyball team's Kylie Ibbotson and Alba Romanos Gracia placed fifth at the 3C2A State Pairs Tournament Saturday and Autumn Rojelio and Bryce Swain placed ninth on the final day of the season at West Valley College in Saratoga.

Two Pirate Paris Move to Round of 16 at StateMay 10, 2024Both duos representing VC beach volleyball advanced to the Round of 16 in play at the 3C2A State Pairs Tournament Friday at West Valley College. Autumn Rojelio and Bryce Swain went undefeated in pool play to move to Saturday's bracket play while Kylie Ibbotson and Alba Romanos Gracia placed second in their pool to qualify for the State Sweet 16.

Pirates Give Great Effort in State Tournament ExitMay 09, 2024The VC beach volleyball team battled throughout their Pool B schedule at the 3C2A State Tournament Thursday at West Valley College, but in the end Ventura just did not have enough to get past MiraCosta or eventual state champion Feather River. The Pirates fell 3-2 in a razor-thin loss to the Spartans before falling 3-1 to the Golden Eagles in the afternoon match-up. VC's Autumn Rojelio and Bryce Swain, Makena Schaumloeffel and Lily Hazzard, and Gracie Piro and Gabby Raines all had victories on the season's final day.

Pirates Sending Two Duos to State ChampionshipsMay 04, 2024The VC beach volleyball is sending two duos to the 3C2A State Pairs Championships next weekend at West Valley College. The Pirates' No. 1 team of Autumn Rojelio and Bryce Swain finished second in the Southern California Regional Tournament Friday and Saturday while Ventura's No. 2 pair of Kylie Ibbotson and Alba Romanos Gracia finished eighth in the 32-team bracket at El Camino College.

Ventura BVB Headed Back to State TournamentApril 30, 2024The VC beach volleyball team is headed back to the state tournament. The 2023 state runners up posted a pair of victories Tuesday in the 3C2A Southern California Regionals to qualify for the final day of the team season next week. The No. 2-seeded Pirates beat No. 10 Rio Hondo 4-1 before winning the first three matches in a 3-2 defeat of No. 7 San Diego Miramar. VC's 4's, Skylar Rutherford and Liz Schalde, their 3's, Gracie Piro and Gabby Raines, and the 1's, Autumn Rojelio and Bryce Swain, all won a pair of matches on the day.

Rojelio and Swain Take Second in WSC TournamentApril 27, 2024The Pirates' No. 1 duo of Autumn Rojelio and Bryce Swain took second place on the final day of the Western State Conference Pairs Tournament in Santa Monica Saturday. Meanwhile, VC's No. 2 duo of Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson placed sixth in the tournament as both teams qualified for the 3C2A Southern California Regionals May 3 and 4.

Pirates Claim Back-to-Back WSC TitlesApril 19, 2024The VC beach volleyball team claimed its second straight Western State Conference championship Friday with a 3-2 win over Santa Monica and a 4-1 triumph over Bakersfield at the Ventura Harbor Cove Courts. Autumn Rojelio and Bryce Swain claimed a pair of wins as the No. 1 pair to lead the way, along with two wins by Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson at no. 2 and Gracie Piro and Gabby Raines at No. 4.

Beach Volleyball Returns to Top of WSCApril 12, 2024With a reworked line-up, the Ventura College beach volleyball team returned to the top of the Western State Conference standings Friday with a pair of victories at Santa Barbara's East Beach. VC gained a measure of retribution in the opener, defeating the host Vaqueros 3-2 after SBCC's win at Ventura on March 29. The Pirates then swept Glendale in the second match of the day to climb into the driver's seat in the conference race with two matches remaining.

Beach Volleyball Shuffle Earns Two WinsApril 05, 2024The Pirate beach volleyball team shuffled its line-up due to injury Friday, but still came out with a pair of wins in chilly but dry conditions in Bakersfield. VC's No. 4 pairing of Lily Hazzard and Makena Schaumloeffel clinched the 3-2 win against Bakersfield and Autumn Rojelio and Bryce Swain won a pair of matches at No. 2 for the Pirates (13-5, 7-1).

The Pirates' No. 1 pair of Autumn Rojelio and Kayla Murdoch won by over 11-points per set and the No. 3 team of Bryce Swain and Lily Hazzard had a big win against Cuesta in the opener. the No. 2 pair of Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson also won a pair of matches on the court for Ventura (8-4, 2-0).

Ventura dropped the opener against Rio Hondo 3-2 before coming back to defeat the hosts, 4-1. VC's ytop two pairs of Autumn Rojelio and Kayla Murdoch, and Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson each won a pair of matches on the day.

Beach Volleyball Splits Pair in Long BeachFebruary 21, 2024The Pirates' beach volleyball team split a pair of matches Wednesday in Long Beach. Ventura defeated San Diego Miramar 3-2 before falling to the hosts 5-0 in a match that was much closer than the final score indicates. Kalya Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio won their match against the Jets before dropping their match against LBCC in three sets. Makena Schaumloeffel and Liz Schalde had the same results on the day.

VC Takes Two in Huntington BeachFebruary 15, 2024The Ventura College beach volleyball team returned to community college competition Thursday, winning a pair of matches in Huntington Beach. The Pirates (4-2) swept host Golden West 5-0 without dropping a set before defeating Cerritos 4-1. VC's No. 3 pair of Bryce Swain and Lily Hazzard gave up an average of 12.3 points per set in capturing a pair of victories.

Beach VB Battles Against NAIA SchoolsFebruary 09, 2024The Pirates' beach volleyball team stepped up the competition Friday, traveling to Carlsbad to take on four-year NAIA schools Life Pacific and St. Katherine. Autumn Rojelio and Kayla Murdoch won their No. 1 match against Life Pacific, as did Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson at No. 2 in VC's narrow 3-2 loss. VC also took three matches to a third and deciding set against St. Katherine before falling 5-0.

Beach VB, Men's Tennis Named State Scholar TeamsFebruary 02, 2024The 2023 Ventura College beach volleyball and men's tennis teams have been named as California Community College Athletic Association State Scholar teams in a release by the 3C2A earlier this week. Beach volleyball earned its first state academic award while the men's tennis team earned its fourth state award. The awards are the VC Athletic Department's 42nd and 43rd State Scholar Team awards since the program's inception in 1997-98. Ventura has been awarded at least one state team academic award in each of the past 23 non-covid academic years.

Beach Volleyball Opens With Sweeping VictoriesFebruary 02, 2024The Pirates' beach volleyball team opened their 2024 campaign with a pair of 5-0 victories in Palm Desert. VC (2-0) defeated Fullerton without dropping a set before shutting out host College of the Desert, winning 10 of 11 sets against the Roadrunners. Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio, Bryce Swain and Lily Hazzard, and Gracie Piro and Liz Schalde all produced a pair of sweeps on the first day of the new season.
