The VC beach volleyball team had its 2022 season come to an end Tuesday in the Southern California Regionals in Huntington Beach. The No. 9-seeded Pirates of Ventura dropped a 5-0 decision to No.1-seeded Pirates of Orange Coast before falling 4-1 to No. 8-seeded Santa Barbara. Ventura's duo of Alexis Baloyo and Amelie Zubia produced the only victory of the day against the Vaqueros.
In the opener, Ventura was unable to take a set from the No. 1-ranked and undefeated hosts. Grace Williams and Madelyn Grajeda pushed their opponents at No. 4, falling 25-23 in the first set while Monica Montoya and Lexi Donnelly fall in their first set at No. 5, 22-20. Savannah Marchese and Averi Carter dropped a close first set at No. 1, 21-18.
In the morning's second match, VC fell to Western State Conference foe Santa Barbara 4-1. Baloyo and Zubia produced a 21-19, 21-14 win at No. 2 and Williams and Grajeda pushed their opponents to three sets before falling 21-21, 19-21, 15-12. Amaris Garcia and Katey Mulville dropped their No. 3 match 21-14, 21-17.
The losses end the 2022 season for the Pirates. VC went 14-6 overall with a runner-up finish in the WSC at 8-2.
Ventura still has three teams alive in the SoCal Regional Pairs Tournament. Marchese and Carter, Baloyo and Zubia, and Garcia and Mulville will all compete on Friday May 6 at El Camino College in Torrance.
