
The Ventura College beach volleyball team returned to the Ventura Harbor Courts for the first time this season to open Western State Conference play in a pair of matches hosted by Moorpark College. The Pirates (8-2, 2-0) swept Glendale 5-0 in their first match of the day before defeating Santa Monica 4-1. Alexis Baloyo and Amelie Zubia won a pair of matches in the No. 1 slot while Amaris Garcia and Katey Mulville won Nos. 2 and 3 matches against the Vaqueros and Corsairs, respectively.
In Friday's opening match, the Pirates swept a short-handed Glendale team. Baloyo and Zubia won the No. 1 match 21-16, 21-13 while Garcia and Mulville played in the No. 2 slot, prevailing 21-6, 21-15. Monica Montoya and Lexi Donnelly won in the No. s slot 21-7, 21-3 and the Pirates won the Nos. 4 and 5 matches by forfeit.
In the second contest, Ventura defeated Santa Monica 4-1 in another short-handed match. VC automatically earned points by forfeit for the Nos. 4 and 5 slots, and Baloyo and Zubia claimed the No. 1 contest for the second time, 21-17, 21-5. Garcia and Mulville earned Ventrua's fourth point with a 21-7, 21-10 victory at No. 3.
The Pirates return to the Ventura Harbor Courts as the "visitors" again on Friday March 25 in a pair of matches hosted by Bakersfield College. VC will take on the host renegades and Santa Barbara beginning at 9:00 am.
