Pirate Student Athletes Strong in the ClassroomAugust 19, 2022Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2021-22, achieving an overall 3.26 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a solid 3.19 overall GPA in the spring. A total of 123 Pirates earned Dean's List honors in the fall of 2021 with a 3.5 GPA or better while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 51 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In the spring, 112 VC student athletes were featured on the Dean's List with 41 posting perfect GPA's.

Linda Wright Receives USA Water Polo Doc Hunkler AwardMarch 13, 2022Ventura College women's water polo head coach Linda Wright has been awarded the Doc Hunkler Distinguished Coaching Award by USA Water Polo for the Coastal California Zone. The fourth-year head coach, who has been with VC water polo for seven years, was named the zone winner of the award, and a finalist for the national award in a press release by USA Water Polo earlier this month. Wright led Ventura to a 20-7 overall record in 2021, the fourth 20-win season in program history.

Mora, Watkins, Lowe Earn State, Regional AwardsJanuary 19, 2022VC water polo players Lauren Mora, Fiona Watkins and Anna Lowe have all earned state and regional post season awards as given by the state women's water polo coaches association. Mora earned CCCAA All-American honors as well as first team All-SoCal distinction while Watkins was also named a CCCAA All-American with second team All-SoCal honors. Lowe received second team All-SoCal accolades following one of the most successful seasons in program history.

Women's Polo Lands Four on First-Team All-WSCDecember 06, 2021The Ventura College women's water polo has had four team members named first-team All-Western State Conference as voted by the conference coaches last month. VC sophomore Lauren Mora and freshmen Fiona Watkins, Megan Findlay and Anna Lowe all earned the first-team nod for the 2021 season, a year in which the Pirates finished a strong second in the WSC race and posted 20 wins for just the fourth time in program history.

Great Effort Not Enough for Pirates in SoCal QuarterfinalsNovember 12, 2021The VC women's water polo team put up a great fight Friday afternoon, but ultimately fell in the Southern California Regional Playoffs quarterfinal round. The No. 5-seeded Pirates were within one goal, 54-, at halftime before No. 4 Long Beach pulled away in the third quarter. Megan Findlay led Ventura (20-7) with four goals while Lauren Mora scored twice. Fiona Watkins had a goal with five steals and Katie Falls recorded eight saves in goal.

Pirates Advance with Victory in Defensive BattleNovember 11, 2021In a defensive battle, the Pirates' women's water polo team defeated Mt. San Antonio 9-5 to advance in the Southern California Regional Playoffs Thursday in Chula Vista. Anna Lowe scored three goals with an assist to lead VC (20-6) while Lauren Mora scored twice with an assist, three steals and a pair of drawn ejections. Katie Falls turned back 11 Mt. SAC shots in goal as No. 5-seeded Ventura moves on to face No. 4 Long Beach on Friday Nov. 12 at 4:45 pm.

Women's Water Polo Seeded No. 5 in SoCal RegionalsNovember 09, 2021The Ventura College women's water polo team is returning to the post-season! The Pirates (18-6) were seeded No. 5 in the 12-team Southern California Regional Playoffs that begin Thursday at Southwestern College in Chula Vista. VC will take on No. 12 Mt. San Antonio (12-17) in the regional quarterfinals at 1:45 pm on day one of the tournament.

Women's Polo Falls in WSC Championship, Playoffs NextNovember 06, 2021It just wasn't their day. Missing a key starter, the VC women's water polo team had a difficult time getting anything going, falling in the Western State Conference title game 15-6 to Santa Barbara. Lauren Mora led the No. 7-ranked Pirates with four goals and three drawn ejections while Fiona Watkins had a score with three assists and four steals against the No. 2-ranked Vaqueros.

Women's Polo Advances in WSC, Sets Rematch with SBCCNovember 05, 2021The VC women's water polo team turned a 2-1 deficit Citrus midway through the first quarter into a 12-3 advantage midway through the final period Friday in the Western State Conference semifinals in Glendora, advancing to the conference championship game on Saturday. Lauren Mora had four goals and three assists while Katie Falls recorded 10 saves in the cage to move the Pirates forward in the bracket. Ventura will get a rematch with Santa Barbara, who defeated VC 10-9 on Sept. 29, in the final.

Ventura Splits Final Day at Battle at the BeachOctober 23, 2021The VC women's water polo team split its final two games at the Battle at the Beach Tournament Saturday at Cerritos. The No. 9-ranked Pirates fell to No. 3 Fullerton 18-10 in the morning before defeating the No. 10-ranked hosts 15-14 in a game that came down to the final possession. Fiona Watkins led VC (18-5, 4-1) with nine goals in the two contests while Katie Falls anchored the defense in goal with 16 saves, six steals and three assists.

Ventura Polo Wins Pair at Battle at the BeachOctober 22, 2021The Ventura College women's water polo team continued to shine with two more victories Friday at the Battle at the Beach at Cerritos College. The Pirates defeated Golden West 17-8 in the first game of the day before beating Rio Hondo 20-8 in the nightcap. Anna Lowe scored eight goals in the two games while Megan Findlay netted seven. Lauren Mora found the inside of the cage six times on the day Friday for Ventura (17-4, 4-1), the No. 9-ranked team in the state.

Pirates Double Up Owls in Home FinaleOctober 20, 2021The VC women's water polo team continued to shine on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Citrus 15-7 in the Pirates' final home appearance of the year. Lauren Mora had four goals, four assists and three steals and Megan Findlay scored four times with two assists and two steals in the triumph. Katie Falls recorded nine saves in the cage as Ventura locked up the No. 2-seed in the upcoming Western State Conference Tournament.

VC Falls Short with Great Effort at Cal LuOctober 16, 2021The VC women's water polo team had a great effort Saturday in Thousand Oaks, pushing 2021 SCIAC champion Cal Lutheran before falling 15-9 to the Regals. Fiona Watkins scored four goals with two assists and two steals against the NCAA Division III team and Lauren Mora had three scores to lead the Pirates (14-4, 3-1). Katie Falls recorded eight saves in the cage with the four-year school.

Women's Polo Runs Away From BrahmasOctober 15, 2021In a game in which all 13 field players scored for the Pirates' women's water polo team,. VC ran away from visiting LA Pierce 19-5 Friday afternoon at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Megan Findlay had four goals in leading the rout over the Brahmas, and Emmie Johnston, Lauren Pierce and Bryanna Soto each scored twice. Katie Falls had nine saves in goal for Ventura (14-3, 3-1).

Ventura Routs Santa Monica in WSC PlayOctober 13, 2021The VC women's water polo team scored four goals in the first two-plus minutes of the opening period en route to an 18-4 runaway victory over host Santa Monica on Wednesday in Western State Conference play. Natalia Rodriguez and Lauren Pierce each netted three goals to pace VC (13-3, 2-1) and Fiona Watkins scored twice with four assists and four steals. Sierra Cameron had three assists and a pair of thefts in the Pirate win.

VC Claims Final Game of Ventura TournamentOctober 09, 2021The VC women's water polo team made it a 31 weekend with a 12-7 triumph over Mt. San Antonio College in their finale at the Ventura Tournament at the Ventura Aquatic Center on Saturday. Anna Lowe had three goals and four assists while Lauren Mora scored three times with a pair of steals to lead the way. Fiona Watkins had two scores with six steals and Katie Falls recorded seven saves in the cage for the Pirates (12-3, 1-1).

Pirate Polo Wins Two of Three at Ventura TourneyOctober 08, 2021The VC women's water polo team won two of three games during day one of the Ventura Tournament Friday at the Ventura Aquatic Center. After dropping the opener to Fullerton 14-9, VC defeated Golden West 11-5 and ran away from Pasadena 16-5. Lauren Mora scored nine goals with four assists and four steals, and she added five saves in the cage in relief in game three, to lead Ventura (11-3, 1-1). Megan Findlay found the inside of the cage eight times with five helpers and four steals on the day. Katie Falls recorded 26 saves in goal.

Pirates Complete 4-0 Weekend at San Diego ClassicOctober 02, 2021With wins over Grossmont and San Diego Mesa, the VC women's water polo team completed an undefeated weekend at the San Diego Classic on Saturday at Mesa College. Lauren Mora led the way with 10 goals and seven steals in the two games while Fiona Watkins had seven scores and seven steals. Katie Falls turned back 24 shots in goal, bringing her weekend total to 54 saves in four games.

Ventura Wins Pair at San Diego ClassicOctober 01, 2021The Ventura College women's water polo team prevailed in a pair of games Friday at the San Diego Classic at Miramar College on Friday. VC held off Palomar in the first game of the day, posting a 13-10 win before defeating host Miramar 18-8 in the nightcap. Lauren Mora led the offense with 10 goals while Katie Falls recorded 30 saves on the day with seven steals.

Women's Polo Comeback Falls ShortSeptember 29, 2021It has been said that sometimes a team doe not get beat, they just run out of time. That was the case for VC women's water polo Wednesday as their comeback bid ran out of time against visiting Santa Barbara. The Pirates overcame a three goal deficit in the first half, and face another one in the second, scoring twice in the final minute of play to fall 10-9 to the Vaqueros. Fiona Watkins had four goals and eight steals to lead VC (5-2, 1-1).

Pirates Open WSC Play With Victory Over LAVCSeptember 15, 2021The game seemed to be over almost as soon as it started. The Pirates' women's water polo team was tied 1-1 with visiting Los Angeles Valley two minutes into play before reeling off 10 straight goals over the next 10 minutes of game time to settle the outcome of their Western State Conference opener Wednesday at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Katie Falls led the defensive effort with 13 saves in the cage while Megan Findlay and Anna Lowe scored six and five goals, respectively, to lead the offense.

VC Takes Two in Pool at Cuesta InviteSeptember 10, 2021The Ventura College women's water polo team traveled to San Luis Obispo Friday, bringing home a pair of wins in the Cuesta College Central Coast Invitational. VC (4-1) scored three fourth-quarter goals to defeat Merced 10-7 before blasting Diablo Valley 17-5. Megan Findlay scored seven goals to lead the charge while Anna Lowe had six scores, four assists and three steals in the two games. Katie Falls had 23 saves in the cage on the day for the Pirates.

Pirates' Polo Rallies, Falls in Double-OTSeptember 09, 2021The VC women's water polo team scored the final four goals in regulation play against visiting Cerritos forcing overtime before falling 16-15 in the second extra period at the Ventura Aquatic Center Thursday afternoon. Lauren Mora scored five goals overall, three in the final 3:12 of the fourth quarter for send the game to bonus time. Fiona Watkins found the inside of the cage three times with four assists and six steals.

Women's Polo Opens 2021 Season With Two VictoriesSeptember 03, 2021Playing for the first time in 665 days, the Pirates' women's water polo team returned to the pool with a pair of victories at the Saddleback Mini Tournament in Mission Viejo Friday. VC defeated the host bobcats in a runaway 17-7 before prevailing in a tough, physical contest against Palomar, 15-6. Megan Findlay netted nine goals with three assists on the day while Lauren Mora scored seven times with a pair of assists and four steals. Katie Falls recorded 18 saves in the cage in the two games.

VC's Fall Sports Returns to CompetitionAugust 26, 2021Ventura College's fall sports return to competition on Friday August 27. When the Pirate volleyball team takes the court against Monterey Peninsula at 12:30 pm in the LA Mission Kickoff Classic it will mark the Pirates' first official fall sports contest in 21 months. The VC women's soccer team opens its 2021 season on Sunday Aug. 29 at Mt. San Antonio College beginning a full week of games in Pirate Athletics' return.
