Pirate Student Athletes Prominent on Dean's Lists for 22-23August 07, 2023Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2022-23, achieving an overall 3.29 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a 3.19 overall GPA in the spring semester. A total of 108 Pirates achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher, earning mention on the Dean's List in the fall 2022 term while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 53 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In spring 2023, 110 VC student athletes were named on the Dean's List with 45 posting perfect GPA's.

2022-23 Scholar Athletes HonoredMay 30, 2023The Ventura College Athletic Department honored its outstanding scholar athletes for the 2022-23 year earlier this month at the annual VC Athletic Hall of Fame and Student Athlete Recognition Banquet. Gage Allen (baseball) received the Male Scholar Athlete Award while Lauren Albrent (Softball), Kylie Gallick (Basketball) and Maggie Mordecai (Soccer) were all named Female Schola Athletes for the year. All four achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average for two years at Ventura College.

Women's Soccer Awarded Scholar Team Award for 2021March 29, 2023For the 22nd consecutive year, at least one Ventura College athletic team has been recognized for academic achievement by the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA). The organization released its team and individual scholar awards for the 2021-22 earlier this month, and the Pirates' women's soccer team has been named a CCCAA State Scholar Team. This is the 41st VC team to receive the highest academic team award given annually in each CCCAA sport since the program's inception in 1997-98. This is the fourth award for women's soccer at VC, as the Pirates previously earned the award in 1997, 2002 and 2017.

Tirado Leads Pirates with All-WSC HonorsDecember 14, 2022For the second straight year, VC forward Alix Tirado has earned the Western State Confere3nce North Division Offensive Player of the Year Award as voted by the conference coaches last month. She is joined by Ashley Tiscareno and Alyssa Cornwell on the All-WSC first team for the 2022 season for the Pirates.

Pirate Soccer Ends Season with Great EffortNovember 19, 2022The VC women's soccer team had a great effort Saturday at No. 2-seeded Santiago Canyon, but came up short against the Hawks in the second round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Alix Tirado and Alexis Arrieta led the offensive attack for the No. 18-seeded Pirates (10-9-4), who dropped the 3-0 decision in the City of Orange.

Ventura Offense Comes Alive in Playoff VictoryNovember 16, 2022The VC women's soccer team unleashed an offensive barrage on Wednesday evening, defeating Citrus 4-0 in the first found of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs in Claremont. Alexis Arrieta, Maggie Mordecai, Alix Tirado and Alyssa Cornwell all scored for No. 18-seeded VC (10-8-4) as they advanced to the second round of the playoffs on Saturday Nov. 19 at No. 2 Santiago Canyon College.

VC Soccer in Playoffs for 25th Time in 26 SeasonsNovember 15, 2022The Ventura College women's soccer team is in familiar territory. For the 25th time in 26 seasons, the Pirates have qualified for the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs. VC (9-8-4) is seeded 18th in the draw and will travel to No. 15 Citrus (14-6-1) on Wednesday Nov. 16. Kickoff for the Pirates and Owls is set for 5:30 pm at Claremont High School.

Women's Soccer Falls in Regular Season FinaleNovember 11, 2022The Pirate soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Allan Hancock College Friday evening at the Sportsplex. Alyssa Cornwell scored Ventura's lone goal in the regular season finale. Isa Garcia totaled six saves in goal for VC (9-8-4, 7-4-1).

Women's Soccer Blanks Condors, 2-0November 04, 2022The VC women's soccer team dominated play at Oxnard Friday afternoon, rolling to a 2-0 victory over the Condors. Alyssa Cornwell and Alexis Arrieta each scored in the victory in which Ventura (9-7-4, 7-3-1) outshot Oxnard 27-0 with 13 on target. Kambria Haughton earned the win in goal for the Pirates.

Pirates and Brahmas Draw in Woodland HillsNovember 01, 2022The VC women's soccer team battled Los Angeles Pierce College to a 1-1 draw Tuesday afternoon in Woodland Hills. Alix Tirado scored for the Pirates (8-7-4) and Isa Garcia recorded six saves in goal to keep Ventura level with the Brahmas in third place in the Western State Conference North Division table heading into the final 10 days of the regular season.

Pirates Edge Raiders on the Sportsplex PitchOctober 28, 2022The VC women's soccer team used a late goal by Elisa Merlos to roll past visiting Moorpark 2-1 Friday night. Alix Tirado assisted the game-winner in the 85th minute along with an Alyssa Gonzalez score in the 44th minute to help lead the way for VC (8-7-3, 6-3). Kambria Haughton played a scoreless first half in goal while Isa Garcia had three saves in the second 45 minutes of play as goalie.

VC Soccer Has Strong Effort in SetbackOctober 25, 2022Despite an outstanding team effort, the VC women's soccer team fell to visiting Santa Barbara 3-1 Wednesday evening at the VC Sportsplex. Alix Tirado scored for the Pirates in the 10th minute, and VC maintained a level score for over 40 minutes of game time despite being down a player before the Vaqueros pulled away in the end. Pirate goal keeper Kambria Haughton had six saves on the night.

Pirate Soccer Drops Decision at HancockOctober 18, 2022The Pirates' women's soccer team traveled to Santa Maria on Tuesday, coming home after a 2-1 setback at the hands of the Bulldogs. Alix Tirado scored in the first half before the Bulldogs found the inside of the goal twice in the final 45 minutes of play. Tirado recorded five shots on goal for Ventura while Maggie Mordecai and Ashley Tiscareno each had two shots on target.

Ventura Dominant in Triumph over OxnardOctober 11, 2022The VC soccer team put forth a dominant effort Tuesday, defeating Oxnard 5-0 at the Sportsplex. The Pirates had 26 shots, 12 on goal, while the Condors did not record a single shot in the shutout. Alix Tirado scored once and had three assists while Ashley Tiscareno, Alexis Arrieta, Alyssa Cornwell and Jaemi Toledo all found the back of the net for Ventura (6-5-3, 4-1).

Tirado Rounds Up Brahmas in Ventura WinOctober 07, 2022Alix Tirado scored a hat-trick, plus one on Friday in Ventura's 4-1 round-up of the LA Pirece College Brahmas at the Sportsplex. The sophomore scored her first goal two minutes into the game and the final one with 13 minutes remaining as VC earned its third Western State Conference win in four outings. Isa Garcia had five saves in goal to earn the win defending the net.

Pirates Back on Track With Win at MoorparkOctober 04, 2022After a scoreless first half, Ventura College forward Alix Tirado found the net twice in the second to lead the Pirates' women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Moorpark Tuesday afternoon. VC goal keeper Isa Garcia totaled four saves to help preserve the narrow win over the Raiders.

VC Soccer Drops Drops Match at SBCCSeptember 30, 2022The Ventura College women's soccer team dropped its Western State Conference game at Santa Barbara on Friday, 3-1. After giving up an early score to the Vaqueros, VC leveled the score in the 38th minute before SBCC got goals late in the first half and early in the second to set the final margin.

VC Brings Home Draw from BakersfieldSeptember 23, 2022The VC soccer team traveled to Bakersfield on Friday afternoon, coming home with a 2-2 draw against the Renegades. Alix Tirado scored a goal and assisted on a score by Alyssa Cornwell to lead the Pirates (2-4-3) to the point on the road.

Late Goal Sinks Pirates at the SportsplexSeptember 20, 2022The VC women's soccer team gave up a late goal on Tuesday, falling to visiting Citrus 1-0 at the Sportsplex. The Owls netted the score in the 74th minute after the Pirate defense failed to clear a ball inside the six-yard box. Although Ventura (2-4-2) had more chances down the stretch, they could not find the equalizer in the setback.

VC Defense Holds Fast in Draw at FresnoSeptember 16, 2022After the long trip to Fresno, the Pirate soccer team's defense led by Elisa Merlos played another outstanding game in Ventura's 1-1 draw against the Rams, a State Final Four team from a year ago. Kaelyn Federis scored VC's lone goal while Kambria Haughton had six saves in goal.

Pirates Battle Roadrunners to 1-1 DrawSeptember 13, 2022After each side scored in the first 19 minutes of play, the Pirates' women's soccer team and visiting Rio Hondo battled it out to a 1-1 draw Tuesday at the Sportsplex. Hannah Price assisted an Alix Tirado goal for the Ventura score and Goalkeeper Isa Garcia had one save on the night to preserve the level outcome.

Ventura Blanks Hartnell in Road TestSeptember 10, 2022The VC soccer team scored a pair of second half goals Saturday in Salinas to defeat defending state champion Hartnell 2-0. Isa Garcia had four saves in goal to record the shutout while the Pirates' received goals from Alix Tirado and Kaelyn Federis to set the final margin. The Ventura back line of Ashley Tiscareno, Sofia Preciado, Federis and Hannah Price also had an outstanding match to assist Garcia defensively.

Slow Start Trips Up Pirate Soccer at evergreen ValleySeptember 08, 2022The Pirate soccer team took 25 minutes of game time to shake off the effects of the long ride to San Jose Thursday, falling behind 4-0 at Evergreen Valley before mounting a furious comeback that fell just short. Valerie Hernandez continued her strong play in the midfield, scoring a goal while Alix Tirado also had a strong game with one goal and an assist. Alyssa Gonzalez also found the inside of the net for the Pirates (1-3-0).

Pirates Blank Vikings For First WinSeptember 03, 2022The VC soccer team used its best performance of the young season to post a positive result to conclude the New Balance Showcase Saturday at the Sportsplex, defeating West Valley 4-0. Alix Tirado scored a pair of goals while Alyssa Cornwell had a goal and an assist and Valerie Hernandez handed out a pair of helpers. Isa Garcia got her first start in goal for VC (1-2-0), making it count turning back five Viking shots in the shutout win.

Soccer Drops Close Match in New Balance ShowcaseSeptember 01, 2022The Pirate soccer team came from behind to take the lead in the second half Thursday on the first day of the New Balance Showcase at the Sportsplex, but they could not hold on as Cypress scored the final two goals to defeat Ventura 3-2. Alix Tirado and Alyssa Cornwell each scored for the Pirates. Despite the setback, there were positives to take from the game including the play of Ashley Tiscareno, Sofia Preciado and Elisa Merlos on the defensive end of the pitch.

Pirate Athletics To Host Fall Sports Promotional NightsAugust 29, 2022The VC Athletic Department's fall seasons jump into full swing Labor Day weekend with six of the seven sports in action with the seventh opening it's season less than a week later. With the start of the new seasons, VC Athletics is excited to announce our promotional schedule for Fall 2022, beginning with a pizza party/tailgate party on Saturday Sept. 3 in partnership with the Associated Students of Ventura College.

Pirate Soccer Drops Season Opener to CoCAugust 26, 2022The Ventura College women's soccer team dropped their season 2022 season opener to visiting College of the Canyons 3-1 Friday evening at the VC Sportsplex. Alexis Arrieta converted a steal deep in the Cougars' end into a quick goal for VC's lone score of the game in the 66th minute. The Pirates produced six shots in the game with a pair on frame while Canyons had 10 shots, three on goal.

Pirate Athletics Returns for 2022-23August 24, 2022After a banner year for Ventura College athletics in 2021-22, the Pirates are back in action to start the 2022-23 academic year. The season starts on Friday Aug. 26 with VC volleyball hosting its annual Kick-Off Tri with matches against Copper Mountain at 12:00 noon and versus Imperial Valley at 5:00 pm in the Athletic Event Center. The Pirate soccer team also kicks off Friday hosting College of the Canyons at 5:00 pm at the VC Sportsplex. Tickets for both teams' home contests are available online at https://ventura.vbotickets.com/events and can be bought and printed at home. Additionally, fans can scan a QR code at the door and purchase tickets on their smart device.
