  • Pirate Football Transfers for 2016 Season up to 36
    August 02, 2017
    Ventura College football and head coach Steve Mooshagian are proud to update that an additional 20 Pirates from the 2016 3-peat Northern Conference champions have inked scholarships or committed to play at four-year schools. Combined with the nine student athletes who signed and/or transferred mid-year in December and the six who inked offers in the early spring, 36 Pirates from the 2016 team will be moving on to the four-year level.
  • Clanton, Haydon Named VC Football Coordinators for 2017 Season
    July 14, 2017
    The Ventura College football team opened summer workouts earlier this month with two assistant coaches receiving promotions to coordinate the Pirate offense and defense, respectively, in 2017. Entering his fourth season with VC football, Ryan Clanton will be directing the high octane Pirate offense while third-year assistant Mike Haydon will coordinate the Pirate defense.
  • Football Announces Six Additional Signees

    Ventura College football and head coach Steve Mooshagian are proud to update that an additional six Pirates from the 2016 3-peat Northern Conference champions have inked scholarships or committed to play at four-year schools.   • Pirate Football Leads SCFA With 15 on Scholar-Athlete Team

    The Pirate football team, fresh off its third consecutive Southern California Football Association Northern Conference title, has proven it can get the job done it the classroom as well. VC has landed 15 players on the SCFA Scholar-Athlete team, which leads the entire association. The next in line is Canyons with 14, then four teams each with seven honorees. This is the second time in four seasons that VC has led the SCFA in scholar-athlete selections.
  • Colman, Crumbie Named All-American, Four Others All-State
    January 23, 2017
    Offensive tackle Jake Colman and defensive back Vosean Crumbie have been named first team All-Americans by the JC Athletic Bureau in voting by coaches around the state last month. Additionally, quarterback Jake Luton, center Josh Mantle, wide receiver Jonte Broski and linebacker Darrian McIntyre were voted to the All-California first team for Region III of Southern California.
  • Pirate Football Announces Nine Mid-Year Transfers
    January 15, 2017
    (Originally published Dec. 22, 2016) Pirate football head coach Steve Moosagian is pleased to announce that nine members of VC's 3-peat Northern Conference champion football team have made commitments to transfer mid-year to NCAA Division I schools. Five signed National letters of Intent last week while two more will be given preferred walk on status at their new schools. These mid year transfers will be eligible to participate in spring practice with their new teams in preparation for the 2017 season next fall.
  • Luton, Mooshagian Lead Pirates in Northern Conference Awards
    November 29, 2016
    Record-setting quarterback Jake Luton and VC head coach Steve Mooshagian lead a host of Pirates who have been honored by the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference in its annual awards announced last week. Luton was named the Offensive Player of the Year in the All-Conference awards while Mooshagian was named the Coach of the Year after leading Ventura to an undefeated conference campaign, its third straight conference championship, and into the SCFA playoffs for the third time in five years.
  • Pirates Fight to the End in National Bowl, SCFA Semifinal Loss
    November 19, 2016
    They fought to the end. The Ventura College football team found themselves down by three scores with 4:31 remaining in the National Bowl at Yorba Linda High School against host Fullerton, and they kept fighting. Quarterback Jake Luton passed for two touchdowns on VC's final two possessions giving the Pirates (8-3) a chance in the Southern California Football Association semifinal, but in the end the deficit was too much. Ventura had it's season come to a close with a 48-41 loss to the Hornets.
  • Luton, Brown Claim Week 11 SCFA Honors
    November 17, 2016
    The Pirate offensive juggernaut continued in record-setting fashion in the regular-season finale at Cerritos Saturday, taking with it two more Southern California Football Association Player of the Week honors. Quarterback Jake Luton won his sixth award of the season as the Offensive Player of the Week and running back Isaiah Brown won his second award for the year for Special Teams/All-Purpose.
  • Pirate Football to Play at Fullerton in SCFA Semifinals
    November 14, 2016
    The regular season is complete and the power rankings are in. The Ventura College football team is seeded No. 4 in the Southern California Football Association power rankings and will travel to No. 1 Fullerton on Saturday Nov. 19 for its third appearance in the CCCCAA State Playoffs in the past five years. The Pirates (8-2) will play the Hornets (9-1) at Yorba Linda High School in the National Bowl. It is VC's sixth consecutive bowl game under head coach Steve Mooshagian.
  • Pirates Complete Undefeated Conference Season
    November 12, 2016
    On yet another record-setting evening, the Pirate football team completed its path of destruction through the Northern Conference with a 56-35 victory over host Cerritos College Saturday night. Quarterback Jake Luton passed for a school record 474 yards and the Pirates racked up a record 720 yards in total offense in completing the program's second undefeated conference campaign in five years.

    Pirate defensive back Alvin Pacheco and quarterback Jake Luton have both earned Southern California Football Association Northern Conference Player of the Week honors for week 10. third week in a row in which the Pirates have had two players honored with player of the Week awards.
  • Pirate Football Claims 3-Peat With Big Win at Bakersfield
    November 05, 2016
    The Pirate football team claimed a 3-peat Northern Conference championship with a resounding 49-21 victory at Bakersfield Saturday. Quarterback Jake Luton had 343 yards of total offense, 271 in the air and 72 on the ground, and accounted for five touchdowns, three passing and two rushing, leading the charge to VC's fourth conference title in the past five seasons. Isaiah Brown had another solid day, as well, with 103 yards rushing and a touchdown for Ventura (7-2, 4-0).
  • Luton Named SCFA Player of the Week For Fourth Time
    November 02, 2016
    Pirate quarterback Jake Luton has done it again. For the fourth time this season, he has earned the Southern California Football Association Offensive Player of the Week award, this week for his efforts in the 49th Citrus Cup game against Moorpark College. Luton had 459 yards of total offense with four scores in the Pirates' 42-28 victory over the Raiders.
  • Pirates Prevail vs. Moorpark, Keep the Citrus Cup
    October 29, 2016
    In the 49th edition of the Citrsu Cup game, the Pirate football team used a big second quarter to take control en route to a 42-28 victory over Moorpark College at the VC Sportsplex Saturday night. Quarterback Jake Luton passed for 394 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score, and running back Isaiah Brown found paydirt twice while rushing for 100 yards to lead Ventura (6-2, 3-0) to its ninth straight win in the storied rivalry.
  • Crumbie Earnd State and Conference Player of the Week Honors
    October 25, 2016
    VC defensive back ran wild over Santa Monica in the Pirates' record-breaking 76-21 victory Saturday night at the Sportsplex. The 6-foot-2, 195 pound freshman from Talahassee, Fla. scored touchdowns on each of his first two punt returns, 75 and 70 yards, respectively, in the first quarter of the game. He totaled 176 all-purpose yards on a total of four kick returns in addition to his shut-down play at cornerback for the VC defense. Crumbie has earned both the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference Special Teams/All-Purpose Player of the Week and JC Athletic Bureau State Special Teams Player of teh Week honors for his efforts.
  • Pirates Break 83-Year-Old Record in Runaway Victory
    October 22, 2016
    In the height of the Great Depression, Roosevelt's New Deal was less than a year old when the Ventura College football team scored 68 points against Santa Barbara State College's freshmen team. That record for points scored in a game stood for 83 years until Saturday, when VC (5-2, 2-0) lit up the scoreboard for 76 points in their blowout win over visiting Santa Monica College at the Sportsplex.
  • Luton Earns SCFA Offensive Player of the Week Honor
    October 20, 2016
    Pirate quarterback Jake Luton has another great week in the Pirates' Northern Conference opener at Canyons Saturday. He passed for 296 yards on a 29-40 performance with five touchdown passes. He also ran for another score and led scoring drives of 88, 68, 96, 26, 48, 79 and 78 yards in VC's 48-25 victory. Luton, a transfer sophomore from Marysville, Wash., has earned the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference Offensive Co-Player of the Week Award for his efforts.
  • Football Opens Northern Conference Play Victorious
    October 15, 2016
    The Pirate football team opened Northern Conference play Saturday with a 48-25 victory at College of the Canyons Saturday in Santa Clarita. Quarterback Jake Luton passed for 294 yards and five touchdowns and ran for another score while Isaiah Brown rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Kalaii Griffin led the defense with seven tackles in the game.
  • Pirate Football Falls at No. 1-Ranked Saddleback
    October 01, 2016
    By any measure, the Pirates' opponent Saturday at Saddleback was highly ranked. The Gauchos were No. 2 in the state, No. 1 in SoCal and No. 4 nationally, according to various polls, and proved to be a difficult game in VC's 49-20 loss in Mission Viejo. The Pirates (3-2), who entered the game ranked No. 8, No. 5, and No. 10, respectively, could not keep pace on the road in their final non-conference game of the season.
  • Crumbie Earns Second SCFA Northern Conference PoW Award

    Pirate defensive back Vosean Crumbie has been named the SCFA Northern Conference Special Teams/All-Purpose Player of the Week. Crumbie, who hails from Tallahassee, Fla., continued his All-American campaign with another versatile performance for the Pirates last weekend.
  • Ventura Can't Maintain Early Momentum in Loss to Riverside
    September 24, 2016
    If only the game ended after the first quarter. The No. 3-ranked Pirates got off to a fast start but could not maintain the momentum as they tasted defeat for the first time this season to No. 1 Riverside 52-27 Saturday night at the Sportsplex. The Ventura offense, which came into the game as the SoCal's No. 2-ranked unit, was limited to two second half touchdowns, the final one well after the the game had been decided, in the loss.
  • McIntyre Honored Again by SCFA, Brown Offensive PoW

    Pirate linebacker earned his second straight Southern California Football Association Northern Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor, and running back Isaiah Brown earne dthe SCFA's Offensive Player of the Week award for their performances in VC's 34-14 win at Orange Coast Saturday. It is the third week in a row in which the Pirates have had two players honored with Playar of the Week awards.
  • Ventura Claims Road Victory, Remains Unbeaten

    Traveling for the first time this seaosn, the VC football team avoided the classic "trap" game, defeating Orange Coast Pirates 34-14 in Costa Mesa. Brian Burt (111 yards) and Isaiah Brown (99 yards) combined for 210 rushing yards and quarterback Jake Luton passed for two touchdowns and ran for another as Ventura won the rematch of the 2015 Beach Bowl despite losing the turnover battle for the third straight week.
  • Mallory and McIntyre Earn SCFA Weekly Honors

    For the second consecutive week, the Pirate football team is featured prominantly in the Southern California Football Association's Northern Conference weekly awards. Following VC's 34-29 victory over four-time state champion Mt. San Antonio at the Sportsplex, Kendric Mallory and Darrian McIntyre have earned SCFA Northern Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.

    September 10, 2016
    It has been a steady climb for the Pirate football team during the six-plus season tenure of head coach Steve Mooshagian. On Saturday they completed the climb into the state's upper echelon with a heart-stopping 34-29 victory over state No. 4-ranked and four-time state champion Mt. San Antonio College at the Sportsplex. Kendric Mallory caught his third touchdown pass of the game, a 12-yard play from quarterback Jake Luton, with 39 seconds remaining to set the final margin for the Pirate win.

    With their victory in the 50th installment of the "Big Game" Saturday against visiting Santa Barbara, the Pirates' quarterback Jake Luton and cornerback Vosean Crumbie have been honored by the Southern California Football Association as Players of the Week. Additionally, with his record-setting debut, Luton garnered State Player of the Week honors from the JC Athletic Bureau.
  • Pirates Set Records, Overcome Turnovers in "Big Game" Win

    Quarterback Jake Luton had a record-setting debut for the Ventura College football team Saturday night at the Sportsplex. The transfer sophomore passed for 487 yards and six touchdowns to help the Pirates overcome four turnovers in posting a 47-40 season-opening victory over Santa Barbara City College in the 50th installment of "The Big Game".
