Pirate Student Athletes Strong in the ClassroomAugust 19, 2022Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2021-22, achieving an overall 3.26 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a solid 3.19 overall GPA in the spring. A total of 123 Pirates earned Dean's List honors in the fall of 2021 with a 3.5 GPA or better while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 51 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In the spring, 112 VC student athletes were featured on the Dean's List with 41 posting perfect GPA's.

Women's Soccer Sweeps Top All-WSC HonorsDecember 16, 2021The Ventura College women's soccer team swept the top awards in the post-season All-Western State Conference awards voted on by conference coaches in November. Alix Tirado was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player and Ashley Tiscareno earned the Defensive MVP award. Meanwhile coach Steve Hoffman was named the Coach of the Year after directing the Pirates to their 17th WSC crown in his 26-year tenure with the program.

Pirates Can't Find Equalizer in Playoff LossNovember 23, 2021Ventura College forward Alix Tirado scored her 27th goal of the season in the 53rd minute of the game Tuesday at Saddleback to bring the Pirates to within 3-2, but VC could not find an equalizer in the final 35 minutes, falling to the Bobcats in the second round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs in Mission Viejo. Ventura goalie Kambria Haughton had an excellent game, keeping the Pirates within striking distance with six saves against the No. 2 seed in the bracket.

Tirado's Goal is the Difference in VC's 1-0 Playoff WinNovember 20, 2021On a chilly November night at the VC Sportsplex, Jennifer Ramirez hit a crossing pass right to left across the penalty box to Alix Tirado, whose one-touch shot rolled inside the near post for the game-winning goal as the Pirates' women's soccer team advanced in the Southern California Regional Playoffs with a 1-0 victory over Los Angeles Perce on Saturday. VC's 26th minute score withstood the test of time as Kambria Haughton had a pair of saves and the Ventura defense posted the shutout win to move forward in the bracket.

Pirate Soccer Earns No. 7 Seed in SoCal RegionalsNovember 17, 2021The Ventura College women's soccer team finds itself in familiar surroundings as they have been seeded No. 7 in the Southern California Regional Playoffs, the program's 24th post-season appearance in 25 seasons under head coach Steve Hoffman. Ventura (15-3-3) will open the playoffs at home on Saturday Nov. 20 against Western State Conference foe and No. 11-seed Los Angeles Pierce (11-4-4). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm at the VC Sportsplex.

Ventura Drops Regular Season Finale at PierceNovember 12, 2021The Pirates' women's soccer team's unbeaten streak ended at 14 games on Friday when VC dropped a 2-1 decision in Woodland Hills to Los Angeles Pierce College. Alix Tirado scored the lone goal for Ventura (15-3-3, 9-1-2), who despite the loss, completed its 17th Western State Conference championship, finishing six points ahead of the Brahmas atop the table.

Ventura Celebrates WSC Title with 8-1 VictoryNovember 09, 2021The Ventura College women's soccer team celebrated the program's 17th Western State Conference championship Tuesday night at the VC Sportsplex with an 8-1 drubbing of Cuesta. The Pirates, who clinched the title a week ago at Oxnard, scored in the second minute of the game and never looked back against the Cougars. Alix Tirado led the way with four goals and an assist while Ashley Tiscareno scored twice. Valerie Hernandez handed out three assists on the night.

Pirate Soccer Clinches WSC North ChampionshipNovember 02, 2021With two goals by Jennifer Ramirez, a successful penalty kick from Anahi Andrade and a shutout in goal by Kambria Haughton, the VC women's soccer team returned to the mountain top, defeating Oxnard 3-0 Tuesday afternoon and clinching the program's 17th Western State Conference North Division championship. VC dominated the game with 16 shots, 11 on goal, to the Condors' two shots with one on target.

Julie Marcelo, Jennifer Ramirez, Alix Tirado and Justice Jones all scored goals for the Pirates (13-2-3, 7-0-2), who stretched their unbeaten streak to 12 games. Kambria Haughton recorded the shutout in goal.

Tirado Scores Two as VC Defeats Moorpark 3-1October 26, 2021Ventura College forward Alix Tirado scored a pair of goals Tuesday night as the Pirates' women's soccer team defeated Moorpark 3-1 at the Sportsplex. Jennifer Ramirez added the third score for Ventura (12-2-3, 6-0-2) as they maintained their six point advantage over LA Pierce in the Western State Conference North Division standings.

Pirates Draw at SBCC, Maintain WSC North EdgeOctober 22, 2021The Pirates' women's soccer team traveled to Santa Barbara's La Playa Stadium Friday, coming home with a 1-1 draw against the Vaqueros to maintain their margin in the Western State Conference North Division race. Valerie Hernandez scored in the 18th minute of the game, and VC (11-2-3, 5-0-2) earned the point despite giving up a goal in the 68th minute of the contest.

Women's Soccer Takes Control of WSC RaceOctober 19, 2021The Pirates' women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-0 result over visiting Los Angeles Pierce on Tuesday to take control of the Western State Conference North Division race at the halfway point in the circuit. Alix Tirado scored off a rebounded shot in the 67th minute to set the final margin. Kambria Haughton had three saves in goal to preserve the shutout for Ventura (11-2-2, 5-0-1).

Midfielder Tiffany Martinez scored a pair of goals and Alex Tirado added her 15th goal of the season to lead the Pirates past the Condors. Kambria Haughton had five saves in goal in posting the shutout victory.

Alix Tirado scored a pair of goals and Aliyah Lopez had a pair of saves for the win in goal for Ventura (9-2-1, 3-0). With the triumph, VC stretched their unbeaten streak to six games, including four wins in a row.

Pirates Kick Unbeaten Streak to Five GamesOctober 01, 2021The VC women's soccer team moved its unbeaten streak to five games on Friday afternoon with a 3-1 victory at Moorpark. Jennifer Ramirez and Valerie Hernandez netted goals for the Pirates (8-2-1, 2-0), who outshot MC with seven shots on goal to the Raiders' three. Kambria Haughton had a pair of keeper saves for Ventura, only yielding a goal on a penalty shot.

Second Half Surge Lifts Pirates in Hoffman's 550th GameSeptember 28, 2021Steve Hoffman is the only head coach the Ventura College women's soccer team has ever known. In his 26th year, Hoffman led his Pirates onto the pitch for the 550th time on Tuesday and VC used a strong second half to defeat 3-time defending Western State Conference champion Santa Barbara 3-1 in the WSC opener for both teams at the Sportsplex. Areanna Covarrubias scored the game-winner and Tiffany Hernandez had a pair of assists to lead the Pirates (7-2-1, 1-0) into the early driver's seat in the conference race.

Pirate Soccer Runs Away From Bakersfield, 5-0September 24, 2021It was all Pirates at the Sportsplex Friday night as the VC soccer team raced to a 5-0 shutout victory over visiting Bakersfield. Jennifer Ramirez celebrated her birthday with a pair of goals and Alex Tirado also found the inside of the frame twice to lead Ventura (6-2-1) to the easy win. Justice Jones also scored a goal and Aailyah Lopez had one save in goal in posting the shutout.

Late Pirate Goal Secures a Draw at CitrusSeptember 21, 2021Pirate midfielder Tiffany Hernandez scored the equalizing goal in stoppage time off a cross by Jennifer Ramirez and the VC women's soccer team escaped Glendora with a 3-3 draw at Citrus College Tuesday evening. Ventura fell behind three times in the match, coming up with a goal to level the score each time. Alix Tirado scored twice on the night, her eighth and ninth goals of the season, and Kambria Haughton finished with five saves in goal.

Lopez in Goal, Tirado's Late Score Leads VC to VictorySeptember 17, 2021The Ventura College soccer team posted a hard-fought 1-0 shutout win over Santa Monica at the Sportsplex on Friday evening. Aaliyah Lopez picked up with win in goal for the Pirates (5-2) with three saves. Center backs Ashley Tiscareno and Sofia Preciado also helped anchor the strong defensive effort against the Corsairs. Alix Tirado scored the game winning goal late in the second half.

Pirates Fall at Rio Hondo, 3-0September 14, 2021The Pirates' women's soccer team traveled to Whittier on Tuesday, coming up on the short end of a 3-0 decision at Rio Hondo College. The Roadrunners went ahead late in the first half with a header off a corner kick in the 45th minute, and they also scored in the 59th and 84th minutes to defeat VC. The Pirates put up a strong fight led by defender Ashley Tiscareno, but they could not get the offense going in the setback.

Women's Soccer Blanked at HartnellSeptember 11, 2021On the final day of their Bay Area trip, the Pirates' women's soccer team was a little off balance Saturday afternoon, falling at Hartnell College 3-0. The Ventura offense, which had scored eight goals in its first three games, was limited on its scoring chances by the Panthers in the midday contest. Kambria Houghton and Aaliyah Lopez combined for 10 saves for the Pirates in goal.

Soccer Remains Undefeated at Evergreen ValleySeptember 09, 2021After a long trip to the Bay Area, the Pirates' soccer team made it worth while with a 2-1 victory over Evergreen Valley College in San Jose. Alix Tirado scored both goals for VC (4-0-0), giving her six score sin the first four games of the year. Sasha Franco assisted the second goal while Kambria Haughton and Aaliyah Lopez combined time in goal for the win.

Kambria Hughton had eight saves in goal in posting VC's second consecutive shutout.

Justice Jones scored twice to lead Ventura (2-0) while Alix Tirado netted a score with an assist in the victory. Aaliyah Lopez and Kambria Haughton each played a half in goal to earn the shutout.

Pirate Athletics Ready to Welcome Fans Back to CampusSeptember 01, 2021For the first time in 542 days, Ventura College Athletics is poised to welcome fans back on campus. On Thursday the Pirate soccer team hosts Golden West College at 8:00 pm at the VC Sportsplex, concluding three games in the 2021 new Balance Community College Showcase. Santa Barbara and Orange Coast will open the showcase at 1:00 pm, followed at 6:00 pm by Hartnell and Cypress. VC plays the marquee game of day one of the three-day event.

Women's Soccer Takes Season Opener at Mt. SACAugust 29, 2021The Ventura College women's soccer team opened the 2021 season with Sunday Night Futbol at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. Trailing 2-1 at halftime, the Pirates scores twice in the final 45 to post a 3-2 victory over the Mounties. Alix Tirado scored two goals in the game and Senna Togneri netted the game-winner. Valerie Hernandez recorded a pair of assists for Ventura (1-0).

VC's Fall Sports Returns to CompetitionAugust 26, 2021Ventura College's fall sports return to competition on Friday August 27. When the Pirate volleyball team takes the court against Monterey Peninsula at 12:30 pm in the LA Mission Kickoff Classic it will mark the Pirates' first official fall sports contest in 21 months. The VC women's soccer team opens its 2021 season on Sunday Aug. 29 at Mt. San Antonio College beginning a full week of games in Pirate Athletics' return.
