Yadira Toraya '11 is Alternate for Mexico for World CupMay 26, 2015Ventura College alumna Yadira Toraya '11 has a chance to make it to the world's biggest soccer stage. She has been named the first alternate for the Mexican National team as Las Tri prepares for the FIFA Women's World Cup that begins June 6 in Canada. Toraya would be the first player called up should the team have an injury or illness to one of its 23 permitted squad members.

Women's Soccer Recognized by NSCAA for Academic ExcellenceJanuary 20, 2015The Ventura College women's soccer team is one of just two California Community Colleges to be recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America with their Team Academic Award for the 2013-14 academic year. The Pirates posted a team GPA of 3.08 for the year, meeting the threshold of 3.00 to receive the award.

Soccer's Chandler Named NSCAA Scholar All-AmericanJanuary 09, 2015Pirate sophomore Sofia Chandler has been named first-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American for 2014. She is one of 11 community college players from across the country to be named a first-team honoree. She is the only player from California to be honored on the first-team.

Trio of Pirates Earn First-Team All-WSC NodsDecember 12, 2014Three Pirates from the women's soccer team have earned first-team All-Western State Conference honors for the 2014 season. Sophomore defender Delanie Gavid and sophomore midfielder Miranda Campos were named to the team along with freshman forward Sabrina Lopez.

Gavid's Early Goal Holds Up as Pirates Blank CondorsNovember 04, 2014Sophomore defender Delanie Gavid scored a goal in the 14th minute, and the Pirate defense made it hold up as Ventrua defeated Oxnard 1-0 Tuesday evening at the VC Sportsplex. The victory sets up two key matches for the Pirates (10-3-4, 6-0-3) a they pursue the program's 16th Western State Conference crown since 1996.

Soccer Blanks Cougars To Remain in Title ChaseOctober 31, 2014There was nothing spooky about Ventura's victory on Halloween night on the pitch at the VC Sportsplex. The Pirates dominated play, taking 22 shots with eight on goal, while not allowing a single shot on goal by the visiting Cuesta Cougars in VC's 5-0 victory. The win allows Ventura (9-3-4, 5-0-3) to keep pace with Santa Barbara, who defeated the third horse in the title chase, Pierce College, on Friday.

They broke out of that rut in a big way Tuesday, scoring nine times against Allan Hancock College in their 9-1 victory in Santa Maria. Sabrina Lopez had two goals and an assist and Michelle Rios also scored twice for Ventura (7-2-4, 3-0-3).
