2013 Ventura College Women's Soccer News

  • Pirates Reflect on Time at VC
    June 02, 2014
In a recently recorded video, recent Pirate alumnae Guadalupe Magaña, Shayne Wells and Taylor C'Debaca reminisce about their two years with the Ventura College women's soccer program. They talk about their experiences on the field and in the classroom. All three will be transferring to four-year schools in the fall: Magaña to Newberry College in South Carolina, Wells to San Diego Christian College and C'Debaca to Marymount California University.
  • WSoccer Announces Signings
    May 05, 2014
Ventura College Head Women’s Soccer Coach Steve Hoffman is excited to announce five players from the 2013 squad have committed to play soccer at four-year colleges in the fall of 2014.  Four sophomores will be transferring, including Guadalupe Magaña, who will attend Newberry College (SC) in the fall while Amanda Tewes will play at Oregon State.  Dakota Thompson will attend Colorado Christian and Taylor C’debaca is moving on to Marymount California University.  Freshman Ashley Borel will transfer to Cal State Bakersfield.
  • Magaña Named All-American
    December 18, 2013
Ventura College sophomore Guadalupe Magaña, has become the 13th VC women's soccer player to earn All-American honors, as selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Lupita, as she is know to her teammates, finished her career playing 3,888 minutes scoring 10 goal and collecting 16 assist for a total of 36 points.   She was honored as a NSCAA All West selection in 2012 and made her way up to being named as one of 12 First-Team All-Americans in the country.
  • Pirates Make All-WSC Soccer
    December 09, 2013
The Ventura College Pirate soccer team had 10 players honored with All-Western State Conference selections for the 2013 season as selected by the conference coaches last month. Four Pirates, sophomores Taylor C'debaca, Guadelupe Magaña and Amanda Tewes, along with freshman Abigail Littleton received first-team nods for their efforts this season.
  • Soccer Season Ends in OT
    November 23, 2013
In the post-season, the difference between advancing and going home can be a razor-thin margin. In soccer that margin can be microscopic. On Saturday, the VC women's soccer team hosted Orange Coast in the Southern California Regional Quarterfinals, and for 117 minutes, the Pirates and Pirates stood toe-to-toe. But one solid shot on an attack with three minutes to play turned the course of the match. Instead of heading to penalty kicks to decide victory, Orange Coast left the Sportsplex with it in hand, and Ventura was left with the agony of defeat, but also pride in the good fight in the game, and all season long.
  • Pirate Soccer Earns No. 6 Seed
    November 19, 2013
The Ventura College women's soccer team has earned another home contest. Ventrua (14-4-2), the No. 6 seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs, and will host No. 11 Orange Coast College (12-4-4) on Saturday Nov. 23. Kickoff in the battle of the Pirates is scheduled for 7:00 pm at the VC Sportsplex. Ventura, whose schedule featured nine matches against playoff teams, finished second in the Western State Conference North Division for just the third time in the past 18 years, a mere two points from the top spot. Orange Coast, meanwhile, finished second in the Orange Empire Conference behind No. 2 Santiago Canyon.
  • Pirates Drop Season Finale
    November 15, 2013
In a non-conference contest, the Pirates' women's soccer team closed out their regular season dropping a 5-1 decision to San Bernardino Valley College Friday at the Sportsplex. Meanwhile Moorpark was drawing with Los Angeles Pierce to seal VC's second place finish in the Western State Conference to the Brahmas by a single point in the standings. AJ Tewes scored the lone goal for the Pirates (14-4-2, 9-2-1) in the 30th minute off of an assist from Miranda Campos.
  • VC Closes Out WSC With Win
    November 12, 2013
The Ventura College women's soccer team closed out its 2013 Western State Conference North Division schedule with a 1-0 victory at Allan Hancock College on Tuesday afternoon. Abigail Littleton converted an assist by Marissa Campos in the 27th minute for the difference maker for the Pirates (14-3-2, 9-2-1).
  • Tewes Takes the Helm, VC Wins
    November 07, 2013
The Pirates' soccer ship has a captain, and its sophomore AJ Tewes. Forced to play more of an offensive role in the past few games, Tewes has made the most of the opportunity, and Thursday night she scored two goals in VC's 3-1 victory at Santa Barbara City College. Although Ventura (13-3-2, 8-2-1) needs help to claim the program's 16th Western State Conference championship in 18 years, the Pirates remain in the hunt with the win.
  • Pirates Show Spark in Big Win
    November 05, 2013
Just when they may have been written off, the Pirates' women's soccer team showed signs of life Tuesday, exhibiting a spark to their play in their 2-1 victory over conference-leading Los Angeles Pierce College at the Sportsplex. AJ Tewes and Taylor C'debaca each scored goals in the decisive first half, and goal keeper Hailee Powell turned back the Brahma's with some solid work, as well, as VC (12-3-2, 7-2-1) avenged an earlier 1-0 loss at Pierce.
  • VC Shuts Out Oxnard, 2-0
    November 01, 2013
The Pirates' women's soccer team played their second straight shutout Friday, blanking Oxnard on the road 2-0 in Western State Conference action. After a scoreless first half, freshman Naomi Jordan scored the game-winner in the 72nd minute with an assist to AJ Tewes. Gualalupe Magaña sealed the victory, finding the back of the net with a free kick in the 83rd. Hailee Powell kept her eighth shutout of the season in goal for the Pirates (11-3-2, 6-2-1).
  • Pirate Soccer Blanks Cuesta
    October 29, 2013
The Ventura College women's soccer team took the long trip to San Luis Obispo on Tuesday, coming home with a 3-0 shutout victory over Cuesta College. Goal Keeper Hailee Powell posted her seventh shutout of the season while Miranda Campos, Sofia Chandler, and Liz Fair all scored goals for the Pirates (10-3-2, 5-2-1).
  • Soccer Draws With Moorpark
    October 25, 2013
Fighting for their Western State Conference lives, the Pirates' women's soccer team overcame an early Moorpark goal, netting their own score in stoppage time at the end of the first half, managing a 1-1 draw with the Raiders Friday afternoon. MC scored in the fifth minute and Ashley Borrell answered for VC (9-3-2, 4-2-1) on the assist by Guadalupe Magaña as the first half came to a close.
  • Littleton Nets Late Game Winner
    October 22, 2013
Without their best offensive threat, Macey Herrera who was injured two weeks ago, the Pirates' women's soccer team is remaking itself in mid-season. A major part of that makeover appears to be Abigail Littleton whose goal in the 85th minute found the back of the net giving VC (9-3-1, 4-2) a 3-2 non-conference win over Rio Hondo Tuesday at the Sportsplex.
  • VC Soccer Reaches Milestones
    October 21, 2013
In the past two weeks, the Ventura College women's soccer program reached a pair of milestones. With their 2-0 win over Oxnard College on October 8, the Pirates achieved the program's 300th victory in 18 seasons. Then, last Friday VC defeated Allan Hancock 2-0 for the team's 200th Western State Conference victory. Head Coach Steve Hoffman, the only coach the Pirates have ever known, has a special message in honor of these two achievements.
  • Pirates Right Ship Against AHC
    October 18, 2013
