The Ventura College track and field teams competed in another triangular meet at Moorpark College Friday, showing significant signs of improvement for both the men and women. Jaedon Rogers matched a lifetime best to win the triple jump to lead the men while Charlotte Allison again claimed four golds in the competition.
The men saw significant improvements producing multiple event winners. Rogers (Rio Mesa) won the triple jump, matching his lifetime best of 41' 9.25", and was also second in the long jump. Gabriel Olivares (Pacifica) broke the tape in the 1500m. Teammates Pierson Reynolds (Buena) and Noah Castro (Channel Islands) finished second and third, respectively, in the 800m, and Sahit Jimenez (Santa Paula) was runner-up in the 1500 and sixth in the 800m. Sprinter Tristan Brown was claimed bronze in the 400m, while Angel Gomez (Buena) was fourth in the 100m, fifth in the 200m, and was the lead leg on the second-place 4x400m relay team with Reynolds, Castro, and Olivares. In the throws, Christian Cook (Rio Mesa) finished fifth in the shotput and seventh in the discus.
On the women's side, Allison (La Reina) was again a four-event winner, prevailing in the long jump, triple jump, high jump, and anchoring the 4x100m relay along with teammates Aubrianna Smith (Foothill Tech), Gillian Serate (Pacifica), and Ariana Vera (Rio Mesa). Smith also won the 100m, and won silver in the 200m. Serate was the runner-up in the long jump and triple jump. Vera finished second in the 400m. Giselle Ortega (St. Bonaventure) was the winner of the 800m, and the runner-up in the 1500m, while teammate Cristina Cortes (Oxnard) was second in the 800m and fifth in the 1500m. Hurdler Kailey Case (Camarillo) was the 100m hurdle winner, and the 400m hurdle silver medalist. In the throws, Denise Cardona (Pacifica) was fourth in the discus, and sixth in the shotput.
"Everyone is improving and gaining valuable experience," said head coach Tom Czerwinski. "We are moving in the right direction, and are looking forward to competing with the rest of the conference in the upcoming weeks."
