After over 400 days since their last competition, the Pirates suited up to step on the track, rings, and runways to continue where they left off against Moorpark and Hancock in Moorpark. Charlotte Allison led the VC women winning three individual events and anchoring a victorious relay while Gisele Ortega won the 1500m.
The women were led by freshman Allison (La Reina) who was a four event winner. She won the long jump, triple jump, high jump (5'4", VC No. 2 all-time), and anchored the winning 4x100m relay along with teammates Gillian Serate (Pacifica), Ariana Vera (Rio Mesa), and Aubrianna Smith (Foothill Tech). Smith also finished second in the 100m, and fourth in the 200m. Vera was third in the 200m, while Serate was runner-up in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump. Kailey Case (Adolfo Camarillo) was second in both the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles.
Multi-sport athlete Gisele Ortega (St.Bonaventure) was the winner of the 1500m, while teammates Alexandra Sanchez (Rio Mesa) and Cristina Cortez (Oxnard) were fourth and fifth, respectfully. In the throwing events, freshman Michelle Sanchez (Oxnard) won silver in both the discus and shot put, while teammate Denise Cardona (Pacifica) was fourth and fifth in the two events.
A short handed men's team was led by a bronze medal finish for Gabriel Olivares (Pacifica) in the 800m. Jaedon Rogers (Rio Mesa) finished third in the long jump and sixth in the 100m and 200m. Jonathan Moreno (Channel Islands) was fifth in the 1500m.
"I'm extremely proud of our athletes for the resilience they have shown, and for the many obstacles they have overcome to reach this point," said hhead coach Tom Czerwinski. "We have plenty of room for improvement, and we look forward to getting better every week."
