Freshman Alisha Greenlaw and Sophomore Emily Stephenson picked up where they left off a week ago, winning their respective events for the second week in a row Friday at the 2015 Western State Conference Relays at the VC Sportsplex. Greenlaw won the 100 meter hurdles while Stephenson took first in the triple jump for the second straight week.
Greenlaw, a Rio Mesa H.S. product, used a quick start to distance herself from the rest of the field, producing a top-10 time in her victory. Stephenson posted a mark of 9.97m (32-feet 8.4-inches) in her third attempt to win by .25m (9.8 inches). Marissa Tobin was the remaining Pirate woman in the top-5 as she placed second in the pole vault.
On the men's side, Dylan Roberts placed second in both the long and triple jumps events, joining Donnie Silecchio's silver medal position in the men's discus throw. Montre Lee had a stellar day running impressive legs on the second place 4x200 meter relay as well as the 4x100, sprint Medley and 4x400 meter relays.
"This was another opportunity to get better and we still a ways to go," commented head coach Tony Veney. "Relays give everyone an opportunity to run events that are not part of the normal event schedule and also serves as a great conditioner."
The Pirates return to Bakersfield Friday Feb. 27 for the yearly WSC North competition pitting the Pirates against teams from Canyons, Hancock, Santa Barbara, Cuesta, and Bakersfield. Field events start at 11:00 am with the first running event going at 12 noon.
