Potter Sets School Record As Swimmers Compete in San Luis Obispo.

Pirate swimmer Sierra Limneos had a pair of first place finishes Saturday in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events and finished third in the 200-yard individual medley. The VC men and women were competing in San Luis Obispo against Cuesta and Allan Hancock in a non-scoring meet.

The Pirates' men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled north to San Luis Obispo Saturday to compete in a non-scoring meet against Cuesta and Allan Hancock colleges. Caitlin Potter had the highlight of the day, setting a new school record in the 200 yard backstroke while Sierra Limneos had a pair of first place finishes. For the men, Roman Becher had a gold and a bronze and also was a top performer in diving.

Potter swam a 2:14.56 in the 200 yard backstroke, besting the old record of 2:15.51 set by Gracelyn De La Cruz in 2019. Potter also finished second in he 200-yard individual medley and second in the 100-yard backstroke. Limneos, meanwhile, won gold in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:49.56) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.60) while coming in third in the 200-yard IM.

Lauren Mora also claimed first place in two events, winning the 50-yard freestyle (27.84) and the 50-yard backstroke (33.85) while claiming bronze in the 200-yard freestyle. Morgan Findlay was also busy during the day, winning silver in three events, the 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard individual medley, and 100-yard butterfly.

Lauren Pierce was VC's best performer in the diving event with a score of 126.15 and she finished runner-up n the 50-yard breaststroke. Stefanie Covarrubias claimed a pair of third place finishes in the 50-yard backstroke and 50-yard breaststroke. Kiran Shah was second in the 50-yard freestyle and Emmie Johnson touched second in the 50-yard butterfly.

The quartet of Potter, Limneos, Findlay and Shah was second in the 300-yard medley relay while Mora, Limneos, Findlay and Potter finished runner-up in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Becher led the way for the Pirate men with a gold medal performance in the 50-yard butterfly (24.44) and placing third in the 100-yard butterfly. He also had VC's best performance in diving with 214.05 points. Arturo Medina, meanwhile, also placed in three individual events, winning the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.34) while coming in second in the 200-yard IM and 100-yard backstroke.

Brayden Lauritzen turned in another VC first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke and he came in third in the 200-yard breaststroke. Ben Sweet claimed gold in the 50-yard backstroke (32.21). Collin Spargur had a pair of silver medal performances in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events and was third in the 200-yard free.

Michael Andrews was second in the 500-yard freestyle and touched third in the 100-yard IM while Nathan Blok was third in the 200-yard backstroke.

The team of Medina, Becher, Lauritzen and Spargur was second in the 200-yard medley relay while Lauritzen, Medina, Block and Spargur were second in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Becher, Andrews, Sweet and Blok came in third in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The Pirates return to the pool on Friday May 7 at Mt. San Antonio in a triangular meet with the Mounties and Santa Monica.
