The VC men's tennis team went on the road Tuesday, traveling to play NCAA Division II Fresno Pacific University and coming home with a 6-1 victory over the Sunbirds. The Pirates (4-0) won two of three doubles matches to claim the point, and prevailed in five singles contests for the victory. Brodie Sodersten, Sam Ashbrook, and Philemon Jabin all were double winners for Ventura.
The Pirates won the first point of the day by taking two of three doubles matches from FPU. Sodersten and Ashbrook claimed the No. 1 doubles match 6-3 while Jabin and Jinsei Tajima won in No. 3 doubles by the same margin.
Regnar Madarang claimed the first point in singles play at No. 5 when his opponent was forced to retire due to injury. Ashbrook easily handled the No. 6 singles match love and one while Sodersten won at no. 2, 6-2, 6-2. Yuya Koide came from behind to claim his No. 3 singles match 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 and Santino Serralonga went the distance in No. 4 singles, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
VC next travels to Riverside on Thursday Feb. 17 for a 2:00 pm match-up with the Tigers.
