Ventura College football and head coach Steve Mooshagian are proud to update that an additional 21 Pirates from the 2016 3-peat Northern Conference champions have inked scholarships or committed to play at four-year schools. Combined with the nine student athletes who signed and/or transferred mid-year in December and the six who inked offers in the early spring, 36 Pirates from the 2016 team will be moving on to the four-year level, with additional signings anticipated following the completion of summer school.
In the Pirates' class of 2016, 21 transfers will play football at the NCAA Division I level, with 15 playing in the Football Bowl Series with six in the Football Championship series. Nine former Pirates will play at he NCAA Division II level while four play at NCAA Division III and one at an NAIA school. Additionally, one former Pirate will be playing NCAA Division I baseball.
The 36 transfers from the 2016 team helped the Pirates win their third straight Northern Conference crown with an undefeated conference season, marching into the SCFA playoffs and coming within a touchdown of eventual state champion Fullerton in the SCFA semifinals.
With the addition of these transfers, coach Mooshagian has now helped 161 student athletes move on to the four-year level in his seven years at the helm of the Pirates' ship.
