The VC beach volleyball team added a pair of sweeps to its non-conference schedule Friday, defeating Mt. San Jacinto and Cerritos each by 5-0 scores without dropping a set against the Eagles and Falcons. The Pirates' Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio Moreno, Olivia Sletten and Ashley Johnson, and Katey Mulville and Averi Carter all posted two wins each on the day for VC (8-1).
In the first match of the day in Menifee, VC faced the hosts from Mt. San Jacinto College. Sletten and Johnson recorded the first win of the day at No. 2, 21-8, 21-12 before Ana Medrano and Gabby Raines prevailed in their No. 5 match, 21-11, 21-17. Murdoch and Rojelio Moreno claimed the match with their 21-21, 21-8 win at No. 1 before Grace Williams and Alba Romanos Gracia recorded a 27-25, 21-17 win in the No. 4 slot. Mulville and Carter completed the Pirate sweep with a 21-18, 21-17 victory at No. 3.
In the nightcap, VC swept Cerritos 5-0. Sletten and Johnson marked the first win of the match at the No. 2 slot, 21-6, 21-9, followed by a 21-11, 21-10 win by Ventura's No. 1's, Murdoch and Rojelio Moreno. Williams and Raines teamed up for a 21-7, 21-10 victory at No. 5 before Mulville and Carter triumphed in their match at No. 4, 21-8, 21-10. Romanos Gracia and Bryce Swain completed the day with a win at No. 4, 21-13, 21-15.
The Pirates begin Western State Conference play on Friday March 17 against Bakersfield and Santa Barbara in matches hosted by Moorpark college at the Ventura Harbor courts.
