Pirate Athletics Lists 83 4-Year Transfers for 2019-20
August 31, 2020The Ventura College Athletic Department is pleased to report that they list 83 student athletes from 2019-20 who are slated to transfer to four-year institutions in the fall, as of August 31. Of those transfers, 60 plan on continuing their athletic careers at their new school, most of them with an athletic scholarship. The transferring student athletes will attend 58 different schools in 26 states around the country. -
2019 VC Cross Country Review
April 01, 2020Coming off two consecutive Top-10 finishes at the CCCAA State Championships, the Pirates' women's cross country team came into the 2019 looking to build on that success. Meanwhile the VC men were looking for a return to the state, their final destination in 2017. It was another competitive, interesting and fun season for the Ventura College cross country teams.

VC Has Two State Scholar Teams, Garcia Named to Honor Roll
March 05, 2020The California Community College Athletic Association has named its team and individual scholar awards for the 2018-19, and Ventura College is once again well represented. The Pirates' men's tennis and women's track and field teams were both named State Scholar Teams for the academic year, and VC's Tatiana Garcia has been named to the State Scholar Athlete Honor Roll. The scholar team honors are Ventura's 38th and 39th awards since the program's inception in 1997-98.

Burton, Tafoya Finish 2, 3 at State XC Championships
November 23, 2019For two years, Olivia Burton and Brieanna Tafoya have been as dominant a duo as Ventura College cross country has even had. They capped off their careers Saturday with another stellar performance finishing second and third, respectively, at the CCCAA State Cross Country Championships in Fresno. Both earned All-American honors as Burton completed the 5k course at Woodward Park in 18:33 and Tafoya crossed the finish line six seconds later. The Pirates finished sixth as a team, the program's third straight Top-10 finish.

Burton Brings Home SoCal Cross Country Title
November 08, 2019Friday was Olivia Burton's day in San Diego. The Pirates' sophomore from Foothill Tech High School ran faster than anyone else in the Southern California Regional Championships at Mission Bay Park to bring home the gold. She covered the 5k course in a time of 19:21, holding off her rival from Moorpark by two seconds to capture the title. As a team, the VC women continued to recover from injury and illness to finish seventh overall, qualifying them for the CCCAA State Championships in two weeks.

VC Women 3rd, Men 9th at WSC Championships
October 25, 2019Running on a hot and dry day in San Luis Obispo, the Ventura College women's cross country team finished third as a team at the Western State Conference Championships while the men came in ninth overall. Olivia Burton was second and Diana Saldana was 10th to lead the Pirate women while Michael Sanchez and Jake Turville were the top finishers for the men.

Pirate Harriers 2nd, 9th at WSC Preview Meet
October 04, 2019The VC women's cross country team continued their strong season, finishing second overall at the Western State Conference Preview Meet Friday in South El Monte while the men came in ninth while showing solid improvement. Olivia Burton and Brieanna Tafoya were the top performers for the women, finishing in fifth and seventh place, respectively, while Luis Duran came in 48th to lead the Pirate men.

VC Women Claim Title at Bakersfield XC Invitational
September 27, 2019With four runners in the top five positions, the Ventura College women's cross country team claimed the title at the Bakersfield College Cross Country Invitational on Friday. Brieanna Tafoya brought home the individual championship in the race to lead the way. The VC men, meanwhile, brought home fifth place in their eight-team event, led by Jake Turville.

Pirates' Women's XC 2nd at SoCal Preview
September 13, 2019The Ventura College women's cross country team performed four spots ahead of their pre-race ranking, coming in a strong second place at the Southern California Preview meet at San Diego's Mission Bay Park on Friday. Brieanna Tafoya claimed second place in the race out of 209 runners while Olivia Burton was close on her heels in third. The Pirate men placed 25th of 29 competing teams.

VC Cross Country Competes at Biola Invitational
September 07, 2019The Pirates' men's and women's cross country teams competed primarily against runners from four-year schools on Saturday at the Biola Invitational in Fullerton's Ted Craig Regional Park. The Pirate women were the top-finishing community college team, placing 15th of the 22 competing teams while the VC men came in 18th place overall. Olivia Burton continued to pace the women and Luis Duran moved up to lead VC's men's team in the race.

Pirate Women Capture Ventura Invitational Crown
August 30, 2019The Ventura College women's cross country team brought home the big prize Friday, capturing first place at the Ventura Invitational at Arroyo Verde Park. Olivia Burton won the event for the second year in a row, pacing five VC finishers in the top eight spots. The Pirate men, meanwhile, running shorthanded for the second week in a row, came in sixth of eight teams in the men's competition.

Pirate Harriers Open 2019-20 VC Athletic Year
August 23, 2019Ventura College's men's and women's cross country teams opened the Pirates' 2019-20 athletic year Friday at the Oxnard Invitational. Running on a flat course that was hardened by high morning winds, the women got off to a solid start finishing second in the team competition while the Ventura men came in fifth. Olivia Burton and Brieanna Tafoya led the women, each placing in the top-10 while Nick Villela paced the VC men.
