Pirate Athletics Lists 83 4-Year Transfers for 2019-20August 31, 2020The Ventura College Athletic Department is pleased to report that they list 83 student athletes from 2019-20 who are slated to transfer to four-year institutions in the fall, as of August 31. Of those transfers, 60 plan on continuing their athletic careers at their new school, most of them with an athletic scholarship. The transferring student athletes will attend 58 different schools in 26 states around the country.

2019 Women's Water Polo ReviewApril 10, 2020Another successful season went into the books for the Ventura College women's water polo team in the fall. VC posted an overall season mark of 16-14 on the season, but five of those setbacks were by margins of two goals or less. The Pirates narrowly lost to Santa Barbara in the Western State Conference semifinals before capturing third place in the post-season tournament as the No. 5 seed. Shayle Barrus earned All-American honors, setting a new program single-season saves record with 284.

Barrus, Lipsky and Reyes Lead WPolo All-WSC HonoreesNovember 29, 2019Goalie Shayle Barrus, defender Raylynn Lipsky and attacker Drew Reyes led the Pirates' women's water polo list of All-Western State Conference honorees, as voted by conference coaches earlier this month. The trio each earned first team honors while Cali Iadevaia and Abby Coker each were named second team All-WSC. Chloe Golden, Lauren Mora, Leanna Ramirez and Shaeleigh Russell earned Honorable Mention accolades.

Accident Ends VC Water Polo SeasonNovember 14, 2019A van carrying members of the Ventura College women's water polo team was involved in a traffic accident early Thursday morning. The team was traveling to the Southern California Regional Playoffs in Riverside when the accident occurred on a freeway in San Fernando. All players and coaches in the accident were checked out by medical personnel and no major injuries were reported. However, the team did not participate in its scheduled 11:30 am playoff game vs. Los Angeles Valley College in Riverside.

Women's Water Polo Headed to SoCal RegionalsNovember 13, 2019The Ventura College women's water polo team is headed to the playoffs. The Pirates (16-13) received the No. 8 seed in the Southern California Regionals and will take on No. 9 Los Angels Valley (15-13) on Thursday Nov. 14 at 11:30 am in the opening round at Riverside City College. It will be the third meeting in 11 days between the Pirates and Monarchs, who played the regular season finale on Nov. 4 and in the Western State Conference tournament on Nov. 9.

Ventura Has Strong Effort to Finish 3rd at WSC TournamentNovember 08, 2019Fresh off a victory in the win-or-go-home play-in game at Cuesta on Wednesday, the Pirates' women's water polo team had strong efforts Friday and Saturday to claim third place in the Western State Conference Tournament at Los Angeles Valley College in Valley Glen. VC pushed eventual champion Santa Barbara Friday in an 11-8 setback before defeating the hosts Saturday in a hard-fought 8-6 victory. Shayle Barrus once again anchored the VC defense from the cage with 25 saves over the two games.

Barrus, VC Defense Shine in Tournament VictoryNovember 06, 2019The Ventura College women's water polo team had a stellar defensive effort Wednesday afternoon in San Luis Obispo in the opening round of the Western State Conference Tournament. Shayle Barrus had 12 saves and three steals in goal and Lauren Mora grabbed five thefts as the No. 5-seeded Pirates (15-12, 2-4) upset No. 4 Cuesta 5-1 to advance to the WSC Final Four this coming weekend at LA Valley. Cali Iadevaia and Leanna Ramirez each scored two goals in the victory.

Women's Polo Falls in Regular Season FinaleNovember 04, 2019The VC women's water polo team dropped their regular season finale 9-7 Monday afternoon at Los Angeles Valley College in Valley Glen. Cali Iadevaia, Raylynn Lipsky and Lauren Mora each scored twice for the Pirates in the game that was a make-up of a contest postponed from Oct. 30. With the loss, VC receives the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Western State Conference Tournament.

Pirates with Strong Effort in Loss at Cal LutheranNovember 01, 2019The VC women's water polo team had a strong effort Friday in their 14-10 setback at Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks. Sophomore Chloe Golden led the way at both ends of the pool with two goals, two assists and two steals while Cali Iadevaia netted a pair of scores with an assist and one drawn ejection. Shaeleigh Russell scored twice with an assist and Leanna Ramirez also recorded two goals.

VC Splits Second Pair in Battle at the BeachOctober 26, 2019The Pirates' women's water polo team split another pair of games Saturday at Cypress College, finishing the 22nd Annual Battle at the Beach Tournament in 11th place following a 2-2 weekend. Ventura (14-10, 2-3) defeated Grossmont 13-8 in the morning match before narrowly falling to Cypress 11-9. Raylynn Lipsky paced VC on Saturday with six goals and five assists while Shayle Barrus turned in another solid day in the cage, turning back 21 shots with five steals.

Ventura Splits Games at Battle of the BeachOctober 25, 2019The Pirates' women's water polo team split two games on the first day of the 22nd Annual Battle of the Beach Tournament at Cerritos College Friday. VC lost to Cerritos 12-7 in the opener before posting a thrilling come-from-behind win over conference rival Cuesta in the nightcap. Leanna Ramirez scored four goals on the day and Cali Iadevaia had three scores. Shayle Barrus recorded 15 saves in the cage over the two games for Ventura (13-9, 2-3).

Pirates Have Little Trouble With Santa MonicaOctober 23, 2019The VC women's water polo team closed out their 2019 home schedule in style, easily defeating Santa Monica 17-3 at the Ventura Aquatic Center. The Pirate sophomores received recognition before their final home game in the orange and black before dismantling the Corsairs from the onset, led by Lauren Mora with four goals, an assist and two steals. Cali Iadevaia, Drew Reyes and Masiel Martinez all scored twice in the balanced Ventura attack.

Pirates 1-1 in WSC Mini at the Ventura Aquatic CenterOctober 19, 2019The VC women's water polo team split a pair of games Saturday afternoon in their Western State Conference Mini Tournament at the Ventura Aquatic Center. The Pirates (11-8, 1-3) dropped a heartbreaker to Cuesta 8-7 in the opener before blasting Los Angeles Pierce 18-1 in the nightcap. Raylynn Lipsky, Drew Reyes and Abby Coker all netted three goals in the two contests and Shayle Barrus totaled 16 saves in goal in five quarters of play.

Shorthanded Pirates Fall at CitrusOctober 16, 2019Playing without two regular starters, the Pirates women's water polo team narrowly dropped a 10-8 decision at Citrus College in Glendora on Wednesday. VC regulars Cali Iadevaia and Abby Coker both missed due to illness, and the Owls took advantage in the conference game. Drew Reyes and Leanna Ramirez led Ventura (10-7, 0-2) with four goals each and Shayle Barrus recorded 10 saves in the cage.

VC Splits Pair to Conclude Ventura TourneyOctober 12, 2019The Pirates' women's water polo team split pair of matches Saturday to conclude the Ventura Tournament at the Ventura Aquatic Center. VC (10-6, 0-1) easily defeated El Camino 11-2 in the first game of the day before falling 6-4 to No. 7-ranked Golden West in a hard fought match-up. Shayle Barrus was nails in the cage for No. 10 Ventura in the second game, turning back 14 Rustler shots to keep the Pirates in the game. Lauren Mora (7 steals), Drew Reyes (5 steals), Raylynn Lipsky (4 steals) and Shaeleigh Russell (3 steals) also anchored the defense against Golden West.

Women's Water Polo Routs Mt. SAC in Ventura TournamentOctober 11, 2019The VC women's water polo team built a big first quarter lead, then held visiting Mt. San Antonio scoreless in the second period en route to a solid 14-7 victory to conclude the first day of the Ventura Tournament at the Ventura Aquatic Center Friday night. Playing under the lights, Cali Iadevaia led the Pirates (9-5, 0-1) with four goals and Shaeleigh Russell netted three scores with two assists and four steals.

Pirates Take 2nd at San Diego TournamentOctober 05, 2019The VC women's water polo team brought home second place in the 9-team San Diego Tournament, splitting a pair of games at Miramar College Saturday. The Pirates (8-5, 0-1) defeated Cypress 11-8 in the early contest before falling to tournament champion Sierra 10-7 in the nightcap. Cali Iadevaia had five goals on the day and Drew Reyes scored twice with three assists, five drawn exclusions and five steals. Shayle Barrus recorded 27 saves in the two games with seven steals and Raylynn Lipsky grabbed nine steals.

Ventura Takes Two at San Diego TournamentOctober 04, 2019The Ventura College women's water polo team won a pair of games Friday at the San Diego Tournament hosted by Miramar College. The Pirates (7-4, 0-1) defeated Southwestern 15-10 and Saddleback 15-4 to advance to Saturday's championship group in the pool. Cali Iadevaia scored eight goals in the two games while Drew Reyes had a pair of scores with seven assists and seven steals. Shayle Barrus guarded the cage with 17 saves in four quarters of play in the two contests.

Pirates Drop WSC Opener at Santa BarbaraSeptember 25, 2019The VC women's water polo team fell to Santa Barbara City College Wednesday in their Western State Conference opener. The Pirates fell behind 4-0 early in the second period in the physical contest before ultimately dropping the game 10-4. Raylynn Lipsky scored a pair of second half goals and also grabbed eight steals defensively. Shayle Barrus recorded 10 saves with three steals in the cage for VC (5-4, 0-1).

Women's Polo Sweeps Two in Home OpenerSeptember 21, 2019The VC women's water polo team played at the Ventura Aquatic Center for the first time this season, defeating Crafton Hills and the VC Alumnae. Cali Iadevaia had six goals in the two games and Drew Reyes had a pair of scores, three assists and two steals for Ventura (5-3). Goalie Shayle Barrus turned back 16 shots while allowing just three goals playing in the first half of each game.

Women's Polo Takes Two in San Luis ObispoSeptember 14, 2019The VC women's water polo team won a pair of games Saturday at the Cuesta Tournament in San Luis Obispo. The Pirates (3-3) defeated Fresno 17-7 in the first contest of the day before handing Merced a 16-8 loss in the nightcap. Cali Iadevaia led the way with 11 goals and five assists on the day while Raylynn Lipsky scored four times and anchored the defense with 10 steals. Goalie Shayle Barrus turned back 24 shots in the two games in the cage.

Women's Water Polo Competitive Against State's BestSeptember 07, 2019The Ventura College women's water polo team opened their 2019 season at the Saddleback Tournament, playing against some of the best teams in the state. Despite the 1-3 weekend record, VC battled, including a 10-7 victory Saturday over Orange Coast and an 11-10 overtime loss to defending state champion Sierra in the opener on Friday. Cali Iadevaia netted 12 goals in the four games while Raylynn Lipsky had 16 steals defensively. Shayle Barrus recorded 40 saves in goal over the four games.
