The state No. 24-ranked VC volleyball team battled state No. 6 and SoCal No. 1 San Diego Mesa Wednesday, falling to the Olympians in three close sets. Daphne Raymond led the Pirates with seven kills and a .400 hitting percentage while adding two blocks at the net. Addison Olson and Shai Daniels each recorded six offensive winners and Josephine Rausch led the defense with eight digs.
Ventura (2-3) battled in the opening set after the long drive south, ultimately falling 28-26. Mesa captured the second set 25-19 before clinching the match with a close 25-22 third set win.
Setters Monaye Ramessar and Valeria Ibarra handed out 13 and 11 assists, respectively. Rausch added four kills while Daniels had four service aces. Chelsea Torres contributed seven digs on defense while Olson and Ramessar each had six digs.
VC continues their difficult non-conference schedule on Friday Sept. 5 as they travel to Pasadena to battle No. 25 San Bernardino Valley and No. 7 Santa Monica in the PCC Quad.
