Pirate Athletics Lists 83 4-Year Transfers for 2019-20August 31, 2020The Ventura College Athletic Department is pleased to report that they list 83 student athletes from 2019-20 who are slated to transfer to four-year institutions in the fall, as of August 31. Of those transfers, 60 plan on continuing their athletic careers at their new school, most of them with an athletic scholarship. The transferring student athletes will attend 58 different schools in 26 states around the country.

Pirates' Women's Tennis Highlighted with ITA Academic AwardsAugust 03, 2020With an incredible team grade point average of 3.78, the VC women's tennis team had been named an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for 2020. Academia is a key aspect of the college tennis experience. Collegiate tennis players add to the rich intellectual community found on college campuses across the nation. Individually, Dean's List student athletes Sylvie Van Cott, Tanya Thompson, Isabella DeRosa and Dee Emami all were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

2020 Women's Tennis ReviewMay 08, 2020The Pirates' women's tennis team was progressing in what could have been a memorable March and April when the coronavirus pandemic prematurely ended the 2020 season. Freshman Sylvie Van Cott was undefeated at No. 1 singles with an 11-0 record, and she also had a strong doubles year going with partner Aline Rojas. Meanwhile, others were also having solid seasons for VC when the CCCAA sports world stood still.

CCCAA Cancels Spring Seasons, Restores EligibilityMarch 20, 2020The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Board of Directors voted unanimously on Thursday that the remainder of the 2020 spring sports season will be canceled, the spring season of competition for approximately 9,500 student-athletes will be restored and face-to-face recruiting and recruiting-related travel is being prohibited immediately but will be re-evaluated next month. Ventura College is a participant in the CCCAA, and the college has moved to all online instruction for the remainder of the spring semester.

VC Athletics Postpones Spring Sports IndefinitelyMarch 13, 2020In accordance with a directive from the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), Ventura College has indefinitely postponed all spring sports, including nontradtional seasons, due to concerns over the COVID-19 outbreak. The move was voted upon by the CCCAA Board of Directors on Thursday afternoon.

Women's Tennis Drops Close Match at BakersfieldMarch 12, 2020The VC women's tennis team dropped a narrow 5-4 decision at Bakersfield College on Thursday afternoon. Sylvie Van Cott did not drop a game in her singles and doubles match to lead the Pirate charge. Van Cott and Aline Rojas won their No. 1 doubles contest 8-0, then Van Cott posted a love and love win in No. 1 singles. Allison Jones and Denissa Garcia also posted singles wins for the Pirates (6-5, 3-5).

Women's Tennis Defeats San Diego, 7-2March 06, 2020The VC women's tennis team defeated a shorthanded San Diego City 7-2 Friday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center. The Knights played with four players, giving VC points for No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles before the first serve of the day. VC split the remaining six matches to claim the victory. Sylvie Van Cott, Aline Rojas and Allison Jones all posted victories in singles for the Pirates (6-4, 3-4).

Pirates Claim Narrow Victory at GlendaleMarch 05, 2020Allison Jones won a close three-set thriller in No. 3 singles to give the Pirates' women's tennis team a 5-4 victory at Glendale College on Thursday afternoon. Jones also won in No. 3 doubles with partner Dee Emami and Sylvie Van Cott was also a double winner for Ventura (5-4, 3-4). Isabella DeRosa's victory in No. 6 singles provided another point in the Pirate win.

Pirate Women Fall Against Santa BarbaraMarch 03, 2020The VC women's tennis team fell to defeat at the hands of Santa Barbara City College Tuesday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center. Sylvie Van Cott was the lone winner for VC (4-4, 2-4), capturing her No. 1 singles match, 7-6 (1), 6-4. Denissa Garcia and Isabella DeRosa had a close 8-5 defeat at No. 3 doubles.

Pirates and Marauders locked in Suspended MatchFebruary 25, 2020The Pirates' women's tennis team and the Antelope Valley Marauders were locked in a tight match Tuesday afternoon in Lancaster when darkness suspended play. The contest was tied 4-4 with the No. 3 singles match featuring VC's Allison Jones knotted at one set each when play was suspended due to darkness. Play will resume when the teams meet again on March 24 in Ventura. Sylvie Van Cott and Aline Rojas were both double winners for Ventura on the day.

Pirates Drop Close Match to Santa MonicaFebruary 20, 2020The Ventura College women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to visiting Santa Monica Thursday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center. After taking a 2-1 lead in doubles, the Pirates (4-3, 2-3) could not hang on, dropping four of six singles matches. Sylvie Van Cott and Tanya Thompson were both double winners for VC in the match.

Ventura Sweeps Saddleback in Women's TennisFebruary 14, 2020On another picture perfect day on the Central Coast, the Pirates' women's tennis team swept visiting Saddleback 9-0 Friday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center. Dee Emami did not lose a game all day, winning her No. 6 singles match love and love, and pairing with AllisonJones to win in No. 3 doubles, 8-0. Jones also won in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1.Sylvie Van Cott emained undefeated with a love and love win at No. 1 singles for the Pirates (4-2, 2-2).

Women's Tennis Edges Bakersfield For Conference VictoryFebruary 13, 2020The VC wopmen's tennis team came from behind Thursday to defeat visiting Bakersfield 5-4 at the VC Tennis Center. Sylvie Van Cott continued her dominance at No. 1 singles, and also won in No. 1 douhles with Tanya Thompson. Aline Rojas clinched the match with her win in No. 2 singles and Allison Jones prevailed in No. 3 singles. Denissa Garcia earned a point with her default victory in No. 4 singles.

Women's Tennis Falls at College of the CanyonsFebruary 11, 2020The VC women's tennis team put up a good fight, but ultimately fell to College of the Canyons 6-3 Tuesday afternoon in Santa Clarita. Sylvie Van Cott continued her dominance in the No. 1 singles position, and Aline Rojas also posted a victory in No. 2 singles. The duo also won their No.1 singles match for the third point for the Pirates (2-2, 1-2).

Pirates Work to Defeat GlendaleFebruary 06, 2020On an almost perfect day for tennis, the Pirate women had to work to defeat visiting Glendale College Thursday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center. Sylvie Van Cott had an easy time in her love, love win at No. 1 singles, but the remainder of the team had to work to post the 7-2 team victory. Van Cott, Aline Rojas and Allison Jones were all double winners for Ventura (2-1, 1-1) on the day.

VC Women Fall to Santa Barbara in WSC OpenerFebruary 04, 2020The Pirates' women's tennis team dropped their Western State Conference opener 8-1 at Santa Barbara Tuesday afternoon. Sylvie Van Cott earned the lone point for Ventura (1-1, 0-1) with a 6-4, 7-5 win in No. 1 singles.

Women's Tennis Wins Season Opener at CerritosJanuary 28, 2020The Ventura College women's tennis team won its 2020 season opener by a 6-3 margin at Cerritos College. Sylvie Van Cott claimed victory in the No. 1 singles slot and partnered with Aline Rojas to win in No. 1 doubles. Rojas also won in No. 2 singles. Allison Jones and Isabella DeRosa were also double-winners, winning together in No. 3 doubles and capturing Nos. 3 and 6 singles, respectively, for the Pirates (1-0).
