The Ventura College women's tennis team dominated visiting College of the Canyons Tuesday, defeating the Cougars 9-0 in action at the VC Tennis center. Keressa Garland blanked her opponent at No. 5 singles, winning love and love, and she teamed up with Tricia McClain to win in No. 3 doubles, 8-2. Allie De Marco was victorious at No. 3 singles for the Pirates (2-2, 1-2), 6-1, 6-1, while Lea Meschke prevailed at No. 1 singles, love and three.
Alyssa Powell won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2 and teamed up with De Marco to blank their opponents in No. 1 doubles, 8-0. Jule Lauinger won in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1 while McClain was victorious in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Meschke and Lauinger won in No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
The Pirates' scheduled match on Thursday Feb. 15 at Victor Valley has been defaulted due to insufficient healthy players for VVC, and it will go down as a conference win for Ventura. The Pirates will return to action at home on Friday Feb. 16 hosting the VC North/South Challenge at the VC Tennis Center and Camino Real Park. VC will play Sequoias on campus Friday at 11:30 am before hosting Fresno at 5:00 pm at the park.
