Following a tough loss in their last match the Ventura College women's tennis team responded with a 6-3 win over Bakersfield College. Mariko Sagara remained undefeated in conference play with a straight sets win at No. 1 singles and claimed a win at No. 1 doubles. Theresa Doal was a winner in both singles and doubles play.
Ventura (4-6, 3-2) traveled to Bakersfield for their third straight road match and on the strength of two wins in doubles play and four wins in singles play came home with a win. Sagara and Powell teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles by a 8-6 score.
Sagara who has played dominant tennis all season continued to showcase her high level of play with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Jessica Powell was a winner at No. 2 singles in straight sets with Jia Wiebe claiming a straight sets win at No. 3 singles. Ventura dropped the No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches, but a win by Theresa Doal at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-4 helped the Pirates seal the win.
Ventura will return home for Western State Conference match on Tuesday Mar. 8 when they will host Antelope Valley at 2:00 pm. Then on Thursday Mar. 10 they travel to Santa Barbara for another WSC match at 2:00 pm.
