The Ventura College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at the Pasadena Invitational on Saturday, with the VC divers taking to the pool on Thursday of the three-day meet. Despite the abbreviated competition schedule, the Pirates posted some highlight-worthy performances. Gracelyn De La Cruz came in 10th in the 100-yard backstroke and 12th in the 100-yard freestyle to pace the VC women.

The men's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Tobias Hynes, Fuchs, Garrett Gallagher and Jake Peters claimed fourth among the 12 competing teams and the 200-yard medley relay quartet of Fuchs, Kevin Smallwood, Marcel Hurtubise and Hynes also claimed a top-10 finish in ninth place. Anthony Amezcua earned points in the 1650-yard free. In addition to their placing in the 3-meter diving competition, Martinez was fifth and Mathis was seventh in the 1-meter event.

For the Pirate women, Adrianna Bese was 11th in the 200-yard breast stroke while Kaitlin Reagan came in 11th in the 100-yard freestyle. Ary Martinez finished 11th in the 200-yard butterfly. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of De La Cruz, Caitlin Burditt, Drew Reyes and Reagan touched in eighth place.

The Pirate divers head to the Western State Conference / Southern California championships Thursday and Friday, April 12 and 13 at El Camino College. The swim teams will travel to the WSC Championships at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita April 18-20.
